Great breakfast and lunch dive. A lot of food for decent price. Chinese and American menu with no drop in quality and taste. Very old school.

I am a big fan of fast Chinese food. I came with a friend who has been coming here for a long time. So I tried the chatsu pork and teriyaki chicken with chow mein noodles. The pork was a little over cooked but had great flavor. I didn’t find the teriyaki chicken to be teriyaki because their was no sauce but the chicken was great. The chow mein needed to be stir fried more but all in all it was not to bad for a quick bite.

Ok, well let’s just say this place would not be my first choice, but a friend brought me here and swore by it. And even though the food was pretty good, the locale is not what so attractive. Needless to say, try it.

I have been coming to this place for over 30 years. Sadly, the place has gone downhill as well as the food. Today I went, after not being there in a long while, and the place looked dirty and run down. The portions were generous but my steamed rice was cold. I am missing the old guard that used to work there. It was empty for being lunch time. I got no cookie and there was just one disheveled waitress tending the empty tables. I remember when the waitresses wore their uniforms and the service was much friendlier and professional than what it is now. This will be my last visit to this joint.

I was there earlier today with a friend. I know the food is good. I’ve eaten here before. First the waitress threw the menu at me. Didn’t like that. Then she took our order as she is finishing her lunch. Didn’t appreciate that she was talking to us with food in her mouth. Stayed because she wasn’t cooking our food. Then we saw her clearing the table after 4 police officers finished eating. We saw her take 2 cookies off their table. She put them in a clear box. HOWDARE does SHE come to us and say these cookies are for you??? We didn’t touch them. Then she asked us if we want them to go. I’m sorry should of crumpled them up. Didn’t think about it. I was so disgusted. That is horrible service. NEVERGOINGBACK.

DONOTEATHERE!!! Found rat poop on the floor. Unless ur into that kind of thing go for it not to mention the food isn’t that great and the short haired lady is absolutely rude worst customer service acted as if I was a burden for just asking for a extra plate… I don’t get. Wish I would have seen the rat poop before I sat down ae a paid.

Very reasonably priced, very friendly server and definitely enjoyed the uniqueness of the dish. I had the shrimp omelet and enjoyed it, but it was nothing super special. The flavors didn’t jump out at me. Also, thought the fried rice was fine, nothing special. There was nothing other than rice and scallions, so also a little bland. I’ll definitely go back.

If you’re downtown it’s a great cheap place to get a plate full of food. I love the waitresses they take no crap from no one.

What can I say about Howard’s? I’ve been eating at this place for nearly 18 years and Miss Maggie she was great to have as a waitress food is always the same greasy and delicious don’t come here if you’re on a diet the portions are huge and it’s definitely not healthy but its some of the best teriyaki chicken dishes you’re going to find in the city

Egg foo young was TERRIBLE. BURNT, full of sprouts and barely any egg. Fried rice was lacking and chinese people are not making the food in the back FYI. Bleh. Thumbs down. I really wanted to like this place being that it’s so close to home…

It’s been years since my last visit and happily to report that Maggie from China is back. The greatest waitress who goes above and beyond, really. Your typical fast food combining American and Chinese breakfast and lunch. What makes this little gem unique is that the floor is shared by law enforcement, drug dealers, city workers and construction workers. Quality of food is good and well prepared and served in a timely manner. If you’re in the neighborhood stop by and say hi to Maggie(:

Really friendly, nice diner atmosphere. The combo with shrimp and veggies wasn’t terribly exciting, but the fried rice was descent and HUGE for the price. A nice spot for lunch… Greasy spoon kinda place, the food is nothing to write home about but it’s friendly and cheap enough… I’ll be back

What’s good about Howard’s Café? 1. Friendly, attentive service 2. Huge portions and small prices 3. Food(Well, it depends on what you order) Now, I have been here a couple of times and I would say the stars are for the customer service mostly. The food is a hit and miss. They are known for their Howard’s Chicken which is sort of teriyaki(ish), but a little different. I’m sorry I can’t describe it better than that. It is very good. The egg rolls are also very good. I see police officers eating there a lot which usually says either the food is good or the food is cheap. I know it is cheap and good is a matter of taste. It is a hole in the wall so don’t expect ambiance. It is kept clean, however. It is very small(not cozy small, but cramped small), parking is in a strip mall lot. But, I haven’t had any problems finding close parking. I would recommend the Howard’s Chicken and egg rolls like I mentioned. My friends have had the short ribs and teriyaki chicken and said they were good. I don’t think any of us liked the fried rice, but we saw others shoveling it down, so maybe it was just us. Also, stay away from the egg foo young. My friend took one bite and said she was going to take it home to her dog until I reminded her it had raw onions in it, so it wasn’t a good idea. I also tasted it and it was indeed bad. The soup we had on the house was okay. I saw a lot of people ordering large bowls of other soups, so that must be popular there. They also serve breakfast where you also get a lot for a little. I don’t know many places that mess up breakfast. Again, everything is personal taste, so if you are in the area you could give it a try. It wasn’t bad. Like I said, it depends on what you get. So the food is hit or miss, but service with a good attitude goes a long way with me. That is why they get a 3 star«A-OK».

Could this place really be Chinese? Diner style seats, sandwiches and stuff like egg foo young on the menu. It was pretty empty on a Friday afternoon. I got the 2 item combo with chasu pork and teriyaki chicken. The chicken was soooo good! Tender, juicy goodness. The pork was less amazing but I liked the sauce. The plate was HUGE. It was a solid two square meals for me. For the leftovers, the chicken was kind of gross after the microwave but the pork was unchanged. The owner lady came out and we chatted. She is Chinese! Amazing. But she says the restaurant doesn’t see many Chinese patrons.
