My family’s new go to place for fresh and live lobsters, crabs and tilapia and frozen head on shrimp. They offer a variety of seafood(fresh, live and frozen) and also things you would possibly need with cooking seafood such as vegetables, dry noodles, Asian condiments: vinegar, soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, sauce and etc. It’s pretty awesome! The prices are reasonable but it changes depending on the season. The place is clean. The staff are always nice and friendly and they always do a great job in cleaning our fish. I highly recommend this place if you’re in the mood for cooking seafood!

Tired of going to the movies? Date nights are getting stale? Sick of being disappointed and overpaying at hyped up restaurants that don’t live up to the hype? Well here’s an idea, fellas… how about cooking your special someone a LIVECRAB or LOBSTER??? Okay, maybe she doesn’t have to be special, just someone you’re trying to sleep with. This will do the trick! She can also play with her dinner while you’re prepping. Hoi Yeung Co is my go to spot when I’m in the mood to cook live seafood. There are several stores in Chinatown but this spot is my favorite because their prices tend to be SLIGHTLYCHEAPER. Also their Dunganese crabs tend to be bigger(bigger is better, right?). They also have a nice seafood counter(ie. scallops and oysters). Prices of the crab and lobster vary depending on market price but it’s usually $ 7.99-$ 10.99 per pound. There’s also a small paid lot($ 2 – 3) half a block down the street if you can’t find street parking. So fellas, jazz up date night, battle the madness at Chinatown and pick up some live seafood at Hoi Yeung Co and surprise that special someone(or some girl you’re trying to sleep with) with a fresh, home cooked seafood meal!

$ 8.99/lbs lobster sounds cheap, but when u get a lobster & it comes out $ 15+, it’s not that cheap. And they put the lobsters in a big brown paper bag before weighing. I go to San Pedro, where I buy a lobster for $ 16⁄17& they cook it for me for free. Usually lobsters have meat in the tails & claws. So it’s not a lot. Unless u can spend hrs cooking lobster bisque :) Ultimately, it’s a bit pricy for lobster there. I’d rather buy lobster tails from Von’s/Ralph’s. I’d get almost same amount of meat for much more cheaper price. I also wanted to buy small fresh squid for calamari. But they had big frozen squid(the kind u get in thai restaurant) and it was expensive. $ 7.99/lbs for squid is ridiculous. Buy fresh small squids from Sea Food Market for $ 2 or less The good side is, you can buy live fresh Lobster, crab & tilapia from here. And the customer service is pretty good

Came to this spot to find octopus. They had a large sized portion of cooked octopus, but I was searching for raw. Owner was very helpful, and I ended up with two, small to medium sized octopuses about 1 pound each. Defrosted and they were fresh and already cleaned, meaning that the ink sack and eyes had been removed, and an incision had be made in the head area. Lots of live fish available and the prices were reasonable. I was pleased with the quality of the octopus. I’d definitely come back to buy fish here again. Also, it was difficult to find whole octopus of this size in other stores. I had tried 2 markets in the Koreatown area before coming here.

I cannot say enough good things about Hoi Yeung Co! There are SOOOOMANYYY seafood markets to choose from in Chinatown(all just blocks from each other), and most of them are super affordable and fresh! But we come back here because the service is TOPNOTCH and the prices are UNBEATABLE. The employees here always recognizes my fiancé and I when we come in, and we always get warmly greeted and attentive service. The employees here also speak English which is a HUGEPLUS for us! Not only are the prices ridiculous, the seafood is ALWAYSFRESH and you have to race the crowds to get them before they run out. Last week we got some amazing dungeness crabs from here. They were so good we tried going back for more but the ENTIRETANKFULL was all sold out. And because they sell out so fast, they always have new and fresh inventory coming in. Another fantastic thing is that when they are down to 1⁄3 a tank of(insert live seafood here), they always lower their prices by a dollar/LB so that they can sell it faster. I love when we catch those deals! This week they lowered their lobsters to $ 7.99/LB so we bought the entire tank– seven lobsters total! We also got 4LBS of live clams for $ 4.99/LB and they were soooo fresh! Great market for fresh, live seafood! HIGHLYRECOMMEND!

Rip-off alert! Watch out here! Last Sunday, I was graving Main lobster so I went to this place. Last year I bought at least 6 live lobsters here and they were fine but last Sunday they tried to rip me off. The guy showed me a great looking, lively lobster which I agreed looked good. He put it in a bag. Then he walks around the counter where I saw him quite quickly put the bag on the floor(where you can’t see it) then appeared to pick the bag up from a slightly different location. He weighed the bag then brought the bag to the checkout register, Being suspicious of the move I saw him make, I checked inside before paying and sure enough the S.O.B. had switched the great-looking live lobster I thought I was buying with a dead one that was missing a claw! SERIOUSTHIEF! I stormed out and will NEVER go there again. I’m still in the mood for lobster so I was searching the internet and chanced upon this review site. I almost never write reviews but I’m happy to write this one and maybe save you from this thievery!

If you want Lobster(Maine, not spinies), dungeness crab, and tilapia, that’s all you can get really unless you like eating old fish that’s been on ice and have cloudy eyes

I love this place! I’ve been going here for years and have never been disappointed. They have a great selection of sea food at the best prices I’ve seen in town! They really have just about everything… live lobster, dungeness crab, silver carp, tilapia, and catfish. In the summer, they even have live blue crab. their selection of fresh and frozen fish also can not be beat, from octopus to blue prawns and salmon.

I’m a huge supporter of mom & pop stores, so this one fits the bill quite nicely. They have a great selection of seafood from shrimp to salmon to oysters. Available items obviously vary since seafood is seasonal. I got four Maine lobsters here for a BBQ and the meat was delicious. I’ve had problems in the past buying live lobster from other stores because they keep them too long and the meat shrinks. The store is good at turning over inventory quickly so everything I need is always fresh. There is usually a crowd in the afternoon and also early weekends. I believe the owners valid for parking across the street if you purchase over $ 25 dollars.
