This review is about their Weekend BBQ. Not the actual butcher shop. I have heard great things about their BBQ and decided to give it a try. All of the meat was dry and just not done well. I was expecting good quality food but then I heard what happened. The reason people told me good things about this place is because at one time, the people from Texas Best BBQ were doing the cooking. Then they started their own thing with their own place and the owner tried to take over and it just isn’t good. If you’re looking for good BBQ, this isn’t the spot.

With all the great BBQ spots popping up in the Valley as of late, it’s pretty amazing that Hardy’s continues to fly under the radar. Only available on weekends until they run out, this is one of the best hidden spots you’ll find in the Valley. It’s really simple, you order inside of the market, then they bring your order in a sytrofoam container, wrapped up really well and tight in plastic wrap, and then you enjoy. For $ 20 you get a lot of one meat or not as much(but still a lot) of two. I tried the Ribs and Brisket. The baby back ribs are already cut individually and you get four to an order. The brisket? You get a ton of that. I couldn’t even finish it. Had to take it home. Everything is served dry, meaning without sauce. And in reality, you really don’t need it. They both have great smoke and the flavor of the meat really comes through. You do get some sauce, but only three little cups which is nowhere near enough for this size of an order. You’re probably best to take it home, and use a sauce you really like on this or just eat it dry. Sides are OK. There are only three hot sides and except for corn on the cob, they’re not the ones you expect to see with a barbecue plate(Spanish rice?) The corn was a full ear but no butter to spread on it. Lots of prepared salads to pick from, so I went with the standard cole slaw and like the meats, this was also dry. This time, being dry is not such a good thing. I would have liked some more dressing. Otherwise, I might have well been eating cabbage straight. But you’re really here for the meats, and Hardy’s totally delivers(except they don’t deliver). Definitely worth a try and you’ll save a few bucks over Barrel and Ashes anyday.

One of the coolest dive barbecue joints in Studio City. It is located inside of a convenient store so it works if you need any last minute BBQ utensils or items. While the tri-tip here is a savory special I often opt out for the chicken sausages and shall I dare say the best potato salad in the city of studios!!! Any sandwich they make is always a delicious belly filler. The staff is more than courteous providing outstanding service and food orders in a timely manner. Many locals show up on a weekly weekend basis, especially since football season is back in effect. Always a good deal here and I’ve actually become fond of the some of the staff simply because they go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied.

Seriously can’t get enough of this place. It’s now my regular spot when visiting L.A. Haven’t been? You need to! The customer service is great, too!

Not bad for having fresh BbQ at the ready. Pulled pork was unbelievable as was the Beef Brisket. What made me give them the 3 stars and not 5 is that the Tri Tip which is what drew me in was horrible. Tasted previously frozen and reheated. No flavor at all. Pretty upsetting. On a good note the Arroz con Leche was Unbelievable!

I revisited this place yesterday and decided to have the owner make a chicken sandwich, but I got one of the sons and I don’t know how hard it is to get an order correct but they screw up every time. When the so. Asked for white or dark, I always order white! Not only did I find less than 4 ounces of meat but only a small portion was white, the rest was dark, and fat. It was very sloppy and not at all the same quality as the father/owner prepares it, I also requested potato salad which was terrible as my first bite contained a shell, I didn’t eat the rest. Here is my problem, just because I’m not Mexican doesn’t mean I do not understand what they are speaking about. As the son wrapped my food, I wished the father a good weekend, he thanked me but turned to his son and says in Spanish, «she’s never happy with the order, always complains.» Guess what, «stop leaving out something, make a sandwich with what I asked for, and if I ask for a fork don’t leave it out, or forget to put barbecue sauce, or when I say no pickles, that means no pickles!!! Little does this guy know, I will never eat here again. I don’t throw my money away so I can have a very unhappy lunch! Or when I pay $ 17.00 for barbecue, I don’t want charred meat, or bite into bone. Save your scraps for your dog-this customer is gone!!!

Excellent, well smoked BBQ for a great price. I got a lot of food for $ 17, when BBQ(especially in the Valley) is infamous for small portions at high prices. I will be back. I had the Baby Back ribs and chicken. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Such fun to walk to this place on Sunday’s and smell the amazing wooden BBQ scent from blocks away! The ribs, short ribs, while chicken and all the sides are of great quality. Give yourself an affordable treat. Plates that are good for two people are about $ 15-$ 16. Single orders are $ 8 something I believe.

I stopped in to pick up some of this amazing BBQ I’ve heard so much about. I spent about $ 90 picking several things to share at work. I was taken back when I noticed the Ribs a tad under done and thus I couldn’t eat them till I finished them off in the oven; which I feel was a dink from the start. I wasn’t like OMG over the ribs– just OK– Not as tender as I would of hoped for. I also have the turkey– not bad. Also pulled pork– ok. Over all I say it’s ok BBQ — it didn’t live up to what I had been told.

I came here on a couple different weekends, sandwiches were awesome, meat was straight off of the grill, super tasty! Staff was very friendly too.

We ordered a two meat plate, the quantity was plenty for two to share. For $ 20, it looked like a great deal. However, we both ended up disappointed with what we got. The brisket was very dry, even for meat cut from the flat(so dry it couldn’t have come from the point). The fat on the beef rib dominated the rib and was tough and overall difficult to eat, they went straight to a very happy dog. The potato salad lacked any seasoning what so ever. We really wanted to like this place, but won’t be back. They should leave the beef off the menu and focus on cuts that are easier to smoke properly.

I used to go to smoke city BBQ and would pay 50 $ for lunch. Now I come here for 17 $ you get enough brisket or ribs to feed two plus two sides. It’s delicious. Great BBQ. The meat is fresh from their own butcher shop inside. I shop here for my meats the cuts are amazing the butcher is helpful and will suggest a good cut for a certain meal. The have amazing tamales too. Try it you won’t be disappointed.

Great service! Food was just ok. Asked if they had a pulled pork sandwich, and I got a sandwich with pork and bbq sauce(wasnt pulled at all) was a sliced pork sandwich. Potato salad and cole slaw need more flavor in my opinion.

First of all, you must know that Romeo is a Valley legend. Grilling for 28+ years at this spot, he is both an expert butcher and barbecuer. This review is strictly for the BBQ, however, which is currently run by his younger family, both nephews and cousins. No worries, as Romeo is ALWAYS in charge, and the taste, the texture, the juiciness and the bark are always properly inspected & presented. While the counter itself is awkwardly inside the liquor store, his cadre of family/employees serves with smiles, advisement(best side, best meat today, etc) and modesty. They know this is Romeo’s endeavor, and they allocate the proper respect to both his presence and his specialty. A very good vibe pervades Hardy’s, and the neighborhood is attracted to the long-smoked meat that wafts its wondrous aroma through Studio City & Sherman Oaks. This particular Saturday brought me to Hardy’s right as the meat was readied, circa 230pm. I asked one particularly youngish nephew what today’s specialty was, and he urged the Tri-Tip(relatively Santa Maria ‘style,’ but mostly pure vaquero-cue), the beef rip and one of Romeo’s famous sausages. I ordered all three, and was suggested two proper sides — the potato salad and the macaroni salad, both made in-house, and left with a styrofoam container fit for a family. The meat was delicious, and the experience is both memorable and unique in the South Valley. Very fun — and inexpensive($ 20!!!) — way to relax and enjoy a weekend afternoon.

I wish I could give this place 6 stars, because this place really does dial it up to 11. Hardys best BBQ is an add on to Hardys Meat Market. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons they roll out a massive grill and cook up the best BBQ Beef ribs in Los Angeles that I’ve had. And I’ve had plenty. Baby Blues, Phillips, Bludso’s, Lucille’s, all pale in comparison. I came early on a Sunday afternoon to try the ribs as I had seen the smoker outside for almost a year. When we got there they didn’t have anything cooked fresh from that day, as we were early.(Fresh food is ready at 2PM) But they did have some leftovers from the day before which when I had a bite I nearly cried. And this had sat under a heat lamp for almost a day. I was so impressed I came back again that night to try some fresh ribs, and thank God I did, because my life has forever been changed for the better. While waiting in line two other people standing next to me expressed the same sentiment. Frankly, I’m was a little unsure I wanted to actually write this review, because I don’t want my new favorite place to become hip or trendy, but at the same time I want the world to know how amazing these guys are. Romeo, has been cooking here since 1985 and he is a true master of meats. If this BBQ was sold in a Hollywood restaurant you could charge three times as much for it and people would still consider it an amazing deal. Simply put, the BBQ you can get from them on the weekends is the BESTBBQ Beef ribs in LA, and it’s only a bonus that it is incredibly cheap to boot.
