I’ve been going to this restaurant for almost 30 years. Their red chile plate is good and that’s what we usually order. However, I’ve been trying a few of their other dishes lately and today I ordered a combo with 2 chile rellenos. Bad move on my part! The rellenos were spongy, watery, and an obvious frozen food item that was quickly cooked, covered in sauce and cheese. I even asked the waiter if it was frozen and he said yes. I was hoping for a delicious meal and was so disappointed. I won’t be ordering this again.

Really enjoyed the Cochinita Pibil plate. Very tasty, a little spice to it. Beans and homemade tortillas were also yummy. When I was done with the meat, I tossed the rice in the bowl with the leftover juice… which was awesome together!

Horrible Mexican food! Canned beans no flavor. I ordered a salad they literally just globed half of the bottle of dressing. Save your self the trip if you want Mexican food.

I have been going there for over 10 years and I will never go there again. Horrible service and over priced for greasy food. They also don’t answer the phone so you can’t do take out orders. :(

I love Mexican food. This was by far the best I have ever eaten. I had the Enchiladas DelMar, truly amazing.

The food is delicious and cheap and the margaritas are only $ 5! The place is not gorgeous, but if you don’t mind the strange and eclectic decorations and just want a delicious cheap meal, then this place is perfect.

This is a must try if you are in the area! Margaritas are amazing the food was super good. The service was great, I have zero complaints. I can deal with the décor being a little out dated for what kind of food and service you get here. This review is making crave another margarita! Good find!

Drove around town trying to find a good mexican restaurant. Decided to have dinner here. Seated at arrival. Which was awesome. Our waitress was really nice. And we didn’t wait long for our food to be brought out. We had the enchilada ranchera plate and the playa burrito. Good choice for the night. Overall it was a good dinner. Will be back!

I am a serious Mexican food fan, and while nobody is going to argue this is super authentic or a remotely hip establishment, it’s one of my all-time favorites. The fresh tortillas are outstanding. Love the mixed fajitas, especially if you ask for the veggies well done(makes me sweeter). Machacca burrito is a go-to as well. We went for years before discovering the Chef’s Special which is just mind blowing! Chicken with zucchini, mushrooms, and cheese. Don’t know how it’s so damn good, but it is! Margaritas are meh. Staff is usually great, though there’s one grumpy old short dude we try to avoid. You’ll know him just looking at him. I’ve actually grown to love the awkward 70s décor, especially when it’s done up for the holidays.

Flawless. Absolutely flawless. Amazing service with several different staff members, great house margaritas, the shrimp and scallops mariscos are not to be missed, and even the basic tortillas and enchiladas are done very well. I will say, this is not a typical Mexican food taste, and I eat both TexMex and MexiCali, but whatever the kitchen is doing, they’re doing it wonderfully with fresh ingredients. We’ll be back!

I enjoy their happy hour margaritas and all of their portions are reasonably priced and the portions are out the door. Their red salsa and warm chips are out of this world. They have a lady making some fresh tortillas to go along with your fish tacos and or burritos. I recommend their chili Verde burrito. Their service is outstanding. Friday and Saturday evenings are super busy.

Fantastic homemade tortillas and good table service. I subtracted two stars due to: — A poor greeting(we stood at the check-in podium while two employees ignored us– we ended-up seating ourselves) — Their«veggie» burrito has no veggies, only beans, cheese, and rice(topped with a small amount of lettuce and tomato). Very misleading. — Their skinny margarita is simply lime, lemon and tequila– pretty disgusting, and I’m pretty forgiving, especially around happy hour.

Loved the margaritas! Service was good and our main waiter was funny and entertaining. I had the chicken and steak fajitas and they were absolutely delicious! The meat was cooked great, not dry and not too chewy.

Yikes they were super slow the past few times we went. We didn’t see the fresh tortillas that we remember from the before. Prices were higher than what I remember and they closed half the restaurant so the bar was right in the middle of families eating. So you get a lot of swearing in between bites.

They have great deals on margaritas but the food is pretty average. The times I have been here the service is great and the staff is all very friendly and nice, however I feel as though the place is not the cleanest. The last time i was there, there was some pieces of carrots floating in my water. I think this is a great palce to go for some decent priced mexican food, but I would not come here expecting too much. It is also a great place to go with friends for drinks and a snack. The kids menu is also pretty heafty in size so i recommend that.

Awful, just awful! This is not good Mexican food, this is a poor excuse for good Mexican food. The only reason I am giving Hacienda Del Rey 1 star is because they were open so late. Walked in on a Friday night, it was pretty late but this was the only place open so it was slim pickings for us. Half of the restaurant looked like it was under construction while the other half was in use. The waiter that doubled as our server sat us down at a dingy dirty booth. I found particles of food under my table and I think my foot even hit a dirty fork that was under there. The menu had enchiladas, tacos, chile verde, burritos, etc. My cousin ordered the chile verde, I didn’t taste it but she said that’s what she liked to get from there. I ordered a carne asada burrito with beans, cheese and avocado. The asada was greasy and fatty, and I didn’t even get down to the cheese or avocado until I was in the middle of my burrito and by then I was full and not satisfied. We also ordered a pitcher of margaritas, that dang watered down pitcher was $ 40, it cost more than our meals. I wasn’t too pleased with my experience here. My total bill came out to about $ 70, pretty pricey for a hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. I could have made way better food at home and a better margarita, next time I’ll do just that.

Atmosphere There were two separate rooms. One section was dim lighted so it had a romantic feel to it. The second section of the room was full of windows and televisions. The bar was also in the second room. Pretty big for a hole in the wall place. Food Great tortillas. Unlimited chips and salsa. Yums. Everyone in the room had ordered a margarita so if I ever come back I’ll try it out. Price. Pretty pricy in my opinion. I ordered a burrito and it came out to be $ 8. I figured that it would be at the most $ 6 but was shocked at how much it was when the. Bill came out. There are no prices on the menus. They freshly make their tortillas so maybe that’s why it was expensive… but not worth it. Unlimited refills on soda which was great. Service Ehh. They literally gave me a minute to figure out what to order. I didn’t get much of a chance to finish a conversation with my friend before they asked what I wanted to eat. Asked for a minute 3 times. Maybe should have asked them to come back in 5 haha. Noticed that they cleared the table right when our plates was empty. Even took away the full basket chips when they cleared the table. Felt like we were being rushed out.

Dónde hay un buen restaurante? Well, in the Westchester/Playa del Rey area it is hard to find a better choice for Mexican food than Hacienda del Rey. It’s not healthy, but una vez al año no hace daño. This larger-than-it-looks restaurant features ultra-fresh Tortillas(Corn Maiz & Flour Harina), a Full Bar, a live DJ on the weekend, and all the standard Mexican favorites most So Cal residents expect. We started with some wholesome Gaucamole and drinks. The three huge mounds of green goodness is more than two people should eat, but that didn’t stop us. I opted for a House Margarita(1 ½ oz Tequila, ¾ oz Triple Sec, ½ oz Lemon Juice, ½ oz Lime Juice on the Rocks with a Lime Wedge and Salted rim). They hit the spot and were my drink for the rest of the night. Olivia tried a Blue Hawaii cocktail(1 oz Blue Curaçao, ½ oz Dark Rum, ½ oz Light Rum, 1 oz Orange Juice, and 5 oz of Pineapple Juice served over ice). It was super sweet and she switched to Margaritas, too. For entrees, we went with a couple spicy recommendations from the anfitriona. Chile Colorado is chunks of Beef in a thick Red Sauce and gooey Cheese. I got mine extra spicy … bueno. Olivia ordered the Spicy Shrimp(Camarones a la Diabla) and was surprised how tasty it was. Parking is available on the street, a small lot at the corner, or in back via the alley. We had to grab a spot down the street, so, my advice is just take the first spot you find. The service was friendly and quick. There were constant refills of our drinks, chips, salsa, and tortillas. The DJ was in a good mood, too. I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars for Hacienda del Rey. It’s better than ok … so let’s say 3.5. Con el dinero baila el perro.
