Recently moved into the area and started coming here regularly. I travel half the year, but the weeks I’m around I’d be there maybe 3 days, to work for a good few hours. Friendly staff and good food. I’m a creature of habit, so my usual order was an orange juice and espresso in the morning. Another espresso an hour or so later and, if I stayed until lunch, a salad or sandwich. Just don’t want to be the guy who sits all day with one coffee! But the other day the owner comes up to me and tells me that I’m taking up space, and need to spend less time there. There’s no doubt I can put 2 – 4 hours(especially recently because my home wifi has been down), but my usual spend over three hours is $ 20 + $ 4 tip. That’s around $ 72 I can drop in a week. Now I know he’s not going to retire on that, and I’m not expecting to win an award from Obama for services to the local community. And lets face it, I can appreciate how difficult it is to make a small business work in this day and age. But I thought I was a valued customer, and over 90% of the time I’m there the place is half empty. Very embarrassing.

Phenomenal place… almost a hole in the wall. Café tables for two or three. Coffee made with love! Food that makes my mouth water. And the ladies behind the counter are gracious!

Really like this place for their coffee and their service. I’ve been there probably a couple of dozen times and everyone there is very friendly and gives great service. The coffee is great and the place is cool. The food there is good, but not great. I like their salads, but the sandwiches I’ve tried can use some improvement. The parking is not the best and the hours seem short, but the overall experience of the place is great. Definitely a spot you can relax with a cup of coffee on your laptop and have a light meal.

I don’t drink coffee so I can’t comment as to the Quality of the coffee. But the food was good, the fresh pressed orange juice was good, and the staff was attentive and extremely nice. So overall I had a very pleasant time

Best cup of coffee all week. Also have a great coconut pu erh tea, I have had it iced the last two days and it is incredible! Good sandwiches, on top of all that the staff is the friendliest I’ve met in LA as a whole. Someone might say it’s a little bit pricey but definitely worth it for the quality and overall experience!

Pros: amazing espresso and lattes Cons: the slowest service ever, even when it’s not busy(and half the time the staff isn’t very friendly, they seem way into their own conversations). Definitely overpriced, the food especially. $ 11 before tip for a mediocre breakfast sandwich and drip coffee? It’s been mentioned before but the egg is just heated up, the yolk is hard and dry. And $ 4 before tip for an 8 oz latte? The only reason I keep coming back is because it’s the closest café to work and the coffee is good. Meh.

Nothing great. Food is good but prices are expensive and girls there rather be anywhere else. With so many coffee shops I’d go somewhere else if you’re looking for service and cost.

Cute funky coffee shop right on Melrose at Larchmont. I got one of their breakfast sandwiches, and an ice tea. Then I decided to get a Berry Muffin. I asked the lady«Do you make these yourself?» And she said yes they do make them — the Berry muffins are the best, really wonderful.

Sometimes the breakfast sandwiches are ok. And then sometimes they put disgusting amounts of mayonnaise on it. So gross … or at other times the breakfast sandwich will have the smallest piece of bacon on it and you are just like wtf. The consistency is just hit or miss. Not worth it for the $

My second time here was much better. I order an almond milk latte and it was very good. Even had a heart in foam. Come between 3:30 — 4:30 Mon-Fri and coffee is 50% off.(Crazy)

A very hipster spot on Melrose. Serving not only coffee and tea, but also Clover juice + an array of pastries and café food items. Hence, their title, coffee + food I guess. It’s a quaint location where a lot of people come to meet for lunch, a yummy beverage, and/or to work. I met up with my coworker and we were here for a good number of hours, working together. The staff is friendly as well :), one thing to make note: if you are looking for a quiet study/work environment, this is not it. They do play music loudly, but that is what earphones are for(if you don’t like it) right? I, personally, loved their music playlist selection.

Meh. Just meh. Had the breakfast bacon avocado sandwich. The egg was reheated and hard. Iced coffee tastes like every other over-priced, hip café. Just overall bland and overpriced. Was only my 2nd time there, but enough cause not to go back.

The food is delicious and it does feel a bit overpriced but it would be worth it if the customer service was a little better. Everyone is super nice for sure but I’ve seen this scenario happen several times where they don’t call out loudly enough peoples names for their drink or food or they just call out the drink itself so people will take food or drinks that aren’t theirs. This has happened to me for both food and coffee. And because I don’t know what anyone else ordered if they walk off with my drink, I don’t know that it’s not theirs. And after 10 mins pass and I ask about my drink, they go, «Oh we called that out.» I know but when someone else grabs it, how am I to know that its mine and not his. I just think they need to do the orders by name when it gets really busy. Because you have a bunch of people standing around and everyone is a bit unsure whose drink belongs to whom. Other than that, it’s a lovely place and I think I would go more often if these confusing episodes didn’t happen so often.

The coffee was my favorite part of my visit to coffee + food. I got an iced almond latte and it was so incredibly good! I would definitely go back just for that delicious latte. There are a lot of food options, so it was a bit difficult to decide what to get. I ended up getting the spinach and feta quiche which I really liked, but there are a lot of other great looking breakfast and lunch items that I would love to try! 2nd visit… I definitely could not stay away from a good almond latte! I got the veggie breaky sandwich and overall I liked. Probably not my favorite breakfast sandwich, but definitely tasty and worth getting.

There’s a lot going on here. I always enjoy an Aussie-themed place. Flat whites and meat pies always get my attention. So when I heard about Coffee + Food’s Aussie food with an LA twist, I had to come by. C+F is one of those places that have lots of sandwiches pre-made and ready to be toasted. We wad the brekky muffin with avocado and the wife had a veggie brekky sandwich. Both were okay– the bread was nicely toasted, but both sandwiches were a bit bland. The flat whites were also a bit disappointing– more milk and less coffee than the flat whites we’re used to quaffing in Sydney(or Aussie Pie Kitchen and Two Guns, for that matter). There were quite a few other items– a random bakery item here, a lasagna there. Sadly, they don’t serve meat pies every day. Bummer– I would have gladly ordered one. If I was around the area and in need of a quick lunch, I would stop by. The places has its charm. But I wouldn’t go out of my way to swing by here.

I love this place so much, so much that I am reluctant to write this review because part of me just want to keep it as a secret little spot. It’s tucked in a quiet corner of Larchmont and Melrose, and with a very welcoming atmosphere. The space isn’t huge but spacious enough to host a couple sit down tables and bar stools. Perfect for a quiet reading morning or a nice conversation with 2 – 3 friends. Coffee + Food truly stands to its name, as both coffee and food are world-class! The flat white is to die for, always consistent, rich, foamy, with a lovely latte art. For the food, I have tried both lentil cake and corn fritter as super healthy options. Gluten free, coming with avocado and a little side salad, priced super reasonable around $ 4 – 8 dollar. The croissant was also amazing, crispy and flaky, one of the best I have had in Los Angeles! Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this store and I adore every decoration. The little sewing machine on the war, the coffee + food booklets, tote bags… I really feel the owners must have put a lot of thoughts and love into this little place. Next time you are around Melrose/Larchmont but want a quiet hideaway with delicious, healthy food alternative, Coffee + Food it is! Little Tips: 1. Plenty of free street parking in the neighborhood 8 – 6 pm ^^ 2. Lots of creative options for breakfast and lunch, such as pumpkin lasagna, kale salad, sandwiches, turkish toast, savory muffins… and they are all super good! 3. Good size portion, light but filling Best wishes! ^_^

This is the first time that I’ve visited Pricey + Tax since my review two years ago. I am writing this review from inside the busy café right now. Everything, like the chairs, tables and layout, seems more integrated and there is about 25 people sitting inside this café as we speak and about 10 people outside. If they added a second story or made more room in the back kitchen/back patio area, this place would be as busy as Bricks and Scones! Cyndi F, who I believe owns this place, wrote a message to me on Unilocal two years ago after I posted my review to justify the lack of prices on the walls: «We are sorry about not posting prices — our menu changes every day and our prices are pretty LOW in comparison to everything around us(gratitude, osteria mama) so it has not really been an issue for anyone. But we can see how important it is for people who are coming for the first time — know what they are getting into. Have a great day and hope we get another chance to woo you with our coffee + food. Best, Cyndi» Well in the end, 1. I come back and am wooed by their coffee. And 2. they DID put prices up on the walls so there happily goes the ‘too daunting to put prices up due to the ever-changing menu’ theory. The cold brew is not ‘LOW in comparison’ like the owner insists but more reasonably comparable to/slightly pricier than other places — like $ 5($ 4.50 + tax) and as legitimately good as cold brew gets. It’s got less of a bite than other cold brews I’ve had and more of a light roast kind of taste. All in all, it’s gotten better.

I have to update my review from three months ago just to say that this place remains my favorite coffee and lunch spot in all of LA. You need to know that. And go. The number one best coffee shop in all of LA. I know that sounds crazy but it’s true. The staff is AMAZING! Always happy and helpful. The food is just the most perfect selection, plenty of hearty vegetarian options too. And the baristas are gold. The coffee beans are roasted to perfection. The vibe is cool. It is small so I don’t recommend any group larger than 4. It’s an intimate shop. The music playing is fun but not obnoxious; I can still concentrate on writing. I seriously could not give this any higher of a recommendation.

My first impression was, «Cute café, delicious looking treats and sandwiches, and friendly service.» I love the vintage chic look on the interior and details of the items placed on their wall décor. Shelves are stocked with cute little items and chocolate biscuits and desserts are stocked. Their menu is simple and the latte I had was perfectly made. It gets pretty busy during the lunch hour for this petite café but there’s still good seating alongside the walls for one or two. Options for a cup of coffee, a small treat, or lunch, it’s a great spot to drop in with co workers and friends. The lasting impression? «Bring a book, your tablet, enjoy good music, and a perfect latte at coffee + food.»
