Very disappointing compared to the other farmer’s markets. I’m hoping that the influx of new residents will boost the variety at this market. But as it stands, there’s a tomato guy that sells ok produce, and my one favorite avacado guy whom I know from the Venice FM.

Chinatown offers a Farmers Market every Thursday afternoon from 2−6pm(3−6pm in the summer). It’s located in this big empty parking lot off of Hill Street by Alpine. The Chinatown farmers market features fresh produce at prices consistently lower than other markets. One of the farmers revealed a secret to me. He also sells at the Santa Monica Farmers market and for the tomatoes he charges DOUBLE what he charges here… for the same exact tomatoes! Besides your typical selection of produce there’s a good selection of Asian vegetables as well. You can find fresh Bok choy, A-choy, bittermelon, and lots of other greens that I cannot name in English. These greens are perfect for stir-fries. And it’s so much fresher here than in the supermarkets. The bunches of leafy veggies are only $ 1 each. But buyer beware — there are some old ladies with sharp elbows that shop here. They mean business so be careful. Oh the kiddies get free balloons too. Support your local farmers!
