Let me start off by saying I’ve given this place 3 tries. I’d give it 0 stars if i could. STAYAWAYFROMTHISPLACEIFYOUCANEVENFINDIT First try was at night near hollywood and highland. Being hooked on this stuff after I tried it every visit to new york I finally found a place that has it in LA. This place is nothing like the one in LA the chicken here is cut to be more like ground chicken and the lamb has an odd smell to it. food taste is a 4⁄10 Second try was when I tried going to the store location. The gate was shut even though it said they were open online. Also the number posted had been disconnected. Today I called a number I found and the man told me to call the driver who would be on site today. So I call and he texts me back that he is busy and to text him. He tells me that they would be on wilshire and westmoreland from 11 – 3 pm. I went out of my way to give them their last chance. I wasn’t even surprised when i showed up and they were no where to be seen. I wasted 25 minutes driving around the area looking for the truck in traffic. Best part is when I texted and called the numbers I made contact with earlier they didn’t pick up or reply. I ended up going to Porto’s in Glendale and had a great lunch instead. My question is how do you run a business by telling customers you are going to be a location and not show up? Also how do you ignore customers calls and texts when they are standing at a location… End of the day this place is nothing compared to the one on 53rd and 6th. Do not go here and waste money. The people who run this place are shady and unreliable. I haven’t been able to check out this new chicken and rice truck that in LA but will soon. Their website is I rarely leave Unilocal reviews but this business has honestly no respect for customers and does not deserve to stay in business.

I know that Chicken and Rice merged with the Royal Dining Pizzeria that was their, I would go here often since it was walking distance from my home and their pizzas are actually quite delicious I will admit. As far as their menu for chicken and rice, their lamb gyro I enjoyed it tasted decent but I just wouldn’t agree with the pricing($ 8). I recall the cashier mentioning that they would be closed for a month because of some catering service they need to provide but it has already been over a month and I fear that they might of closed but I could be wrong. The place could use a serious make over and a lot of help in terms of their advertising but their luckily their pizzas a actually delicious enough to make me return all the time

I tried this place when it first opened a couple months back and I haven’t been back because of a couple issues. First, they advertise they are downtown which they’re clearly not. They’re located north of Dodger Stadium in a modest neighborhood. Second, their brick and mortar location has precooked food! They serve out of trays which have been sitting there for God knows how long. Third, it’s 10 bucks for mediocre chicken and rice. The white sauce tastes like mayo, the meat was dry and so was the rice(probably because it wasn’t fresh). I don’t know how you can open a real location and the food is worse than your truck. The restaurant itself has an unfinished cafeteria feel to it. Not sure if it looks any better now… doesn’t seem like they’re open much from the more recent reviews. I assume the truck is much better, but I’m over chasing food trucks around town. This place was a tease, and I will have to wait for the real thing to come around. One star for being the first chicken and rice restaurant and another because the owner was actually there during the soft opening and seemed like a nice guy. Overall meh. – Parking: Street parking

So I went here about a month ago, expecting it to be good with all the NY hype. It was okay nothing special and my friends told me that the the portion size was much smaller compared to NY. If you are going to charge more give more, nobody was there went it was a Saturday around 2. Also the location isn’t good. They had one cook, the owner was also there he was nice. But unfortunately I won’t be back. Also the real chicken and rice from NY is coming to LA.

Very poorly run establishment. Made plans with friends to meet at this location on Wednesday night at 9:30PM. Place was completely dark ANDCLOSED. Unilocal,Twitter, and their website list that they are open from noon to midnight. Unfortunately, there is no way of phoning this restaurant. Terrible

bringing it down another star they posted on fb a $ 5 special all weekend-Father’s day weekend. show up on Sunday, and the place is closed. Called the number posted to be told it should have said that they were not open on Father’s day. nope, social media FAIL. waste of my time. false advertising. was offered a measely free drink if i came back the next day. a free soda isnt the same as my wasted gas and my utter disappointment. i was an avid fan, but not anymore.

It has been two years since I’ve had the halal guys so I can’t make an exact comparison, but this version was pretty good. I did think the chicken & rice bowl was a tad salty, but it was still a great meal. The girl who helped us out was really sweet and friendly. I will definitely return.

Went here for a late night food run. The girl who helped us out was really kind and accommodating. It’s not exactly like the Halal Guys in NY, but it’s pretty damn good and hits the spot! Don’t expect anything too fancy. It’s street food!

I tried this over-hyped Chicken and Rice place Twice. Both time experiences were soso, I would most likely not go back again. First time was off the food truck. It was on a weekend around 3pm, no line, fast serving, food was warm and you can tell it has been sitting for a while. Second time was when they first announced their new restaurant. It’s not really a restaurant IMO. It was just an empty unit with few folding tables. I would not go back there again, the food was not even warm, it was between cold and warm. My chicken /lamb bowl was sitting behind the counter before I walked into the restaurant. After I placed my order with the cashier, she picked up the same bowl and gave it to me. I was pretty shocked, it looked like it was someone else’s order. I did not enjoy the food at ALL.

Like many others, after eating at the Halal Guys in New York, I prayed that someone would open one up here in LA. After five years of praying, my(our) wish finally came true. Sort of. I never got around to checking out the Chicken and Rice truck in Hollywood, but as soon as I found out the brick and mortar was opening closer to me, my wife and I, along with some friends, met up for dinner. First impressions: of course we had to go during our recent heat wave, and of course the air conditioning in the restaurant wasn’t working. That’s not quite the same experience as eating out on the corner of 53rd and 6th in NY in freezing temperatures. But you know what? It’s not their fault the AC broke down; I just hope they get it up and running again soon. The inside of the restaurant is not going to win any Interior Design awards, but hey, the place just opened and I’m sure they have lots of work to do. Maybe they’ll spruce it up a bit… or maybe they won’t. Whatever. I didn’t come here to be wowed by table settings or paintings on the walls. My wife and I both got the Combo(chicken and lamb over rice) and dove in. It was good. I think it was about as good as I was expecting it to be. I knew it wouldn’t be as good as the one in NY and I knew they wouldn’t be able to recreate that same atmosphere, so in that sense, I wasn’t disappointed. But I do think it’s good enough where your chicken/lamb and rice cravings can be fulfilled without having to buy a round trip ticket to NY. At about $ 11 for the combo, it’s pricier than its NY counterpart, but again, $ 11 is cheaper than the $ 300+ plane ticket. If you get down to the nitty gritty though, I’d say the rice wasn’t up to par, as it seemed undercooked and slightly hard in texture. Plus, I thought there should have been more rice in the bowl. The chicken and lamb were both good, but neither of the sauces really took my breath away like they did in NY. The white sauce wasn’t as addictive and the red(hot) sauce wasn’t nearly as explosive. In fact, the hot sauce was too watery and vinegary; the only reason I was sweating was because it was so warm in the restaurant. I know, and everyone knows, that this place is going to be compared to the Halal Guys. And I think it’s safe to say those who haven’t had the«real» one will like it more than those who have. All I can say is that I give them props for doing what everyone wanted to do but didn’t have the guts to actually do. I think they’ve done a respectable job in bringing this to LA. And for that, I thank you.

As a stand alone, they’re pretty good. The workers were extremely friendly, which just makes the place more likeable. Food wise, it’s by no means bad, but I can’t in good faith say it’s good enough for a full 4 despite the bad connotation a 3 would give it. I would still recommend it to others while telling them to keep their NY cart expectations in check. Definitely hits the spot if you’re craving this kind of meal. I haven’t tried their food truck, only this location, so I can’t make that comparison. A review from their food truck Unilocal page had mentioned that for some reason, a combo costs more than choosing just one meat, so be prepared for that. When I went, there was a free soda with twitter re-tweet thing going on.

This place is great. It’s not the same as going to New York and getting chicken and rice at the OG halal cart, but it’s pretty damn good. It definitely hits the spot and is a good option to moving to NYC.

I was excited when Unilocal suggested a new place in my part of town today. I know the building and had noticed something new was going in there, I saw two reviews one for 4& one for 5 stars. A brick and mortar affiliated with a food truck, must mean it’s really good and they want to open up a permanent location — right? — I’m there! When I walked into«some pizza place presents Chicken and Rice» I was shocked to see a very unprofessional, unfinished dining area with Costco folding tables, bare walls and an empty looking kitchen. Up front are food warmers(think Chiptole) with no ingredients? I order a chicken and lamb bowl over rice. They don’t take credit cards, they don’t have change, the tab was totaled on a calculator and no receipt is offered. I had to walk to Burger King to buy a drink just to get change to pay. The food arrived, looking interesting enough. I was surprised the rice was red, and not batsami, also the girl behind the counter mentioned the bowl had lettuce and there was none, but whatever. The first few bites seemed good, I liked the garlic and hot sauces and the meat was piping hot. After a few bites I notice the lamb tastes and looks like ground beef. The chicken is also diced really small and both meats are very greasy. The rice is flavorless once the sauce was gone. The more I ate the less I liked it. Quality was about on par with Taco Bell. After feeling disappointed in Unilocal for showing me this place as a 4.5 star restaurant I did a few searches and found people on the food truck page giving this place reviews as well as another page with people feeling like I did. I wanted to like it, I really did. If the quality of the meat were higher and the rice was flavorful and fresh it could have been awesome. Sadly it’s not.

Really a 3.5 but I’ll round up. So ever since I heard about this place as a food truck wandering the streets of LA, I’ve been curious to try it. However, never had the time to track them down, but have still been following their Twitter actively. Behold, they now have a brick and mortar location thats easy to find and open regular hours! 12p-12a on weekdays, 12p-3a on weekends. So I always try and review a business for what they are and not compare them to other things. However, this place is a tribute to the infamous Halal Guys in NY, NY so a comparison really is in order here… The question has always been begging me, how does Chicken & Rice LA stack up to the original NY variety? All comparisons aside, let me tell you that I walked in here today and had the lamb and chicken combination over rice, it cost $ 10.90, although the chicken alone is $ 7 and the lamb is $ 8. They loaded the white and red sauce on for me. At first bite, everything was flavorful and juicy. I did prefer the lamb over the chicken and would probably just get that by itself next time. I’m not usually a lamb goer cuz of the gamey taste, but this one is great and not gamey at all! Portion size is decent and will leave you full. I wish we could put the sauce on ourselves since everyone I know likes it a little bit differently. The place is modestly decorated, 6 plastic backyard style picnic tables with 4 chairs a piece. Thats about it. They didn’t take credit card yet either and the AC was off in this 85 degree weather. They just opened though, so I understand… the owners/workers were very friendly and nice. They actually turned on the AC for me, although I was already on my way out. So back to the bottom line, how does it compare? It’s definitely not the same on so many levels as the NY version, but that by no means is an indicator of poor quality. The NY guys just have it perfect and the price is so good there(~$ 6 if my memory serves correctly). This place sure as hell beats a $ 300 plane ticket and a 6hr flight to fix your cravings though. Besides, you’d have to pass this on the way to the airport anyhow! Would I ever crave this LA location? Maybe, maybe not, only time will tell. Would I wait in line for an hour? Definitely no. I definitely have no objections returning here though.

]I was excited to read that they opened up a storefront since I did not want to wait in line at the truck. Seems serendipitous since I went to new york last month and was fiending for some chicken and rice. It’s not that near Dodger Stadium, this is in Glassell Park. We were confused driving up because it says royal pizzeria on the marquee but chicken and rice spray painted on the side. We walked in and were surprised by the sparse décor. Think plastic tables, cheap chairs and bright yellow walls, nothing else. We were greeted by a lovely lady who patiently answered all of our questions and took our order. She was professional but social and bubbly. My friend and I both ordered a chicken and rice bowl hers with white and red, just got white on mine. Our food was not fresh. It was sitting in warming trays that the waitress just scooped and brought out. The rice was a strange color, like reddish, pinkish, purple. Almost like a watered down beet color. Weird. I expected orange/red rice. The chicken was OK but definitely not halal. It tasted rotisserie-esque. The garlic sauce wasn’t garlicy enough and was almost like a cream sauce. The rice was the worst. Not only did it look weird but the rice was broken up and undercooked. I couldn’t eat it. Overall, nothing like the halal carts in new york. Bowls were $ 7, but i think more if you want half and half, which is more than the $ 6 or so that halal guys charge. Bummer. Really wanted to like it.

I’ve been meaning to try the Chicken and Rice truck in Hollywood, but I’m a very impatient girl so never went. Now that they have a brick and mortar location and JUST opened, I thought I’d finally give it a try. We tried the chicken and rice pizza and the lamb over rice. The pizza tasted delicious and had amazing flavors to it. I liked how it was a wheat crust, but it was a little too thick for my liking. I was very surprised I ate the lamb since I normally don’t. There was no gameyness to the lamb at all. Whatever those red and white sauces were, I would so spread that over everything and devour it ;) Service was wonderful and made our experience great. Can’t wait to come back!

The Chicken and Rice food truck in Hollywood now has a brick and mortar home. Taking over an old pizza shop means their latest creation is the mother of all hybrid foods: the Chicken and Rice pizza! Genius! It’s made with their house-made red and white sauce and it is definitely something to behold. You’ll be able to find them by their distinctive logo and yellow and orange colors. They open at noon, seven days a week. Great option if you’re going to cheer on the Dodgers and need some of their street meat. Best of all is now you can get it in either plate or pizza form!
