Michele smiled at me right after I walked in. She carries an attitude which impressed me instantly. Not many Korean owners greet customers in the front house. Owner also cooks, too. No MSG, he said. I definitely will return when I am in this area. Parking in the back then walk to E. 4th St. is easy. Less crowded than going to 2nd St.

My family came here because we had a $ 35 discount. Let me just tell you, even with $ 100 discount I’d never come back. The restaurant set up was uncomfortable. It resembled a fast food place more then a sushi restaurant. First you take a menu, then you order at the register, next you sit on a table and they bring your food out. The places atmosphere was also off. It was silent, awkward, gloomy, over all uncomfortable. It was super expensive $ food for bad quality. The shashimi salmon was slimy. The tofu in the miso soup taste cheese, in a nasty way(like if it was old tofu), the spicy tuna was not the best. Overall negative experience!!!

Great service and their sushi is the best in town. My favorites are the Philadelphia, rainbow, and crunch CA roll!

I did the 1 hour sushi making class. Pros: –I learned a little about how to roll sushi and now not to let the rice stick to my hands. Cons: –I went expecting to be able to eat my rolls, but this is not the case. He doesn’t let you and asks that you bring them home. So I left hungry and had to drive an hour home with sushi that was less than fresh by the time I got there. –We only got to make cooked rolls(california, shrimp tempura), so if you want to learn about real sushi — raw fish — you’ll be disappointed. –The sushi quality was sub-par(let’s be real I snuck a few bites, lol) This place is what I’d call the drive through of sushi. Not a place you’d sit and eat at, but maybe the place you’d do take-out if you couldn’t find parking at a sushi restaurant.

I’ve only been here for a sushi class that I bought on groupon. Initially I expected it to be at a nice sushi restaurant in downtown long beach, but it was more of a fastfoodish type of place. The class also just ended up being my boyfriend, and the instructor said they had a ton of cancelations. All in all I really loved the sushi making class! The fact that it was just us two we got a lot more help and assistance from the sushi chef. He was also really informative and nice. We got to make 3 rolls each and took them home to enjoy. I’d definitely recommend taking the class.

This is a review for the sushi making class from groupon. It was a really fun date night! My boyfriend and I ended up being the only 2 in the class which gave us extra time. We learned some background on Japanese sushi and the food in Japan. We made 3 rolls: California roll, shrimp tempura roll, and a tiger roll. The chef is really nice and makes all of his own sauces! It was easy to reserve our space in the class and there was plenty of parking. We had a great time, highly recommend!

Ugh! I hate to write reviews like this but in this case it’s warranted. Marci and I had some money allocated from and we wanted sushi, so we opted for one of the few places that is local to us. The fact is we’ve had more weird or bad experiences with than not, so it was not necessarily a surprise that this place was MEH. The food was not bad which is to say it was average, however it didn’t all come to the table at the same time and they forgot to make the vegetable course, so when we made them aware of that, they hurriedly made the course and served it too us. The fact that we were done with dinner basically made eating it kind of pointless, but the kicker was that it’s terribly executed. Im posting some pics so you can see what I ordered and what they brought us. It was comical. I’m also going to suggest that they do not use real tuna for their sashimi because it gave up its color on the plate and it didn’t look real. The salmon was adequate but the other fish, whatever it was had so much marinate on it I couldn’t really distinguish what it was or even that it was fish. The gyoza was good. The edamame was good and the rainbow roll was mediocre. The veggie plate was a joke. The weird thing is that you expect this type of thing when the sushi shop is really cheap, but the fact of the matter is this place is not that cheap. It looks like a streetside deli but the prices are roughly equivalent to a top sushi place. Rolls are 10.00 –12.00 bucks. Entrees are 12.00−14.00 bucks. We paid 20.00 for a 15 piece sashimi plate so whatever saving we were getting was obviously being offset by the poor quality. This was not entirely disappointing, but I certainly would not recommend this place. I am disturbed by the good reviews I’ve read here on Unilocal, because all I can think is most of these people have never actually had really good sushi or they are paid shills that wrote reviews for 25 bucks… Makes me sad…

Don’t waste your money here. I had the teriyaki chicken bowl with veggies for a late lunch around 4pm and it was really gross and was pink almost as if still raw? It seemed as through everything had been cooked hours in advance and was just waiting for an unsuspecting customer to eat the cold, stale, smelly food. While sitting there I witnessed the owner(I am presuming) mop the floor with a rag, pick it up and put it somewhere with his bare hands. He then took an order and served the food, all without ever washing his hands. No wonder the food tastes bad, it’s covered with whatever crap comes off the floor! While I was eating someone called to try and place an order for delivery which the owner revealed they only deliver within a half mile radius. The only reason I was so aware of what was going on is the atmosphere of the restaurant is uncomfortably quiet and bland, not even music playing. I eventually left when a group of school kids ran up to the window and started literally banging their heads against the glass while staring and shouting at the people trying to eat their meals inside. The owner just looked around confused and the kids eventually dispersed. Overall it was a really unsatisfactory experience and I wouldn’t return.

So delicious! The Ramen soup was wonderful. Rolls were fresh and tasty. Went with a Groupon but we will be back even without one. It’s very reasonably priced and the food is great

Even with a Groupon I feel like I was ripped off. Nasty nasty! They load their rolls with imitation crap I mean crab. Food looked nothing like pictures posted around the register.

Pretty pricey for the portions. But not too bad. The rolls were pretty tasty and packed well. The sashimi wasn’t that good though, very small thin potions and the textures were off! The cashiers service was very friendly. The place wasn’t very clean but overall I wouldn’t say it was a bad place — just over priced.

Horrible food. Horrible service(owner, not the worker). Expensive for what you get. I ordered a spicy shrimp udon. It looked NOTHING like the picture they posted on their counter. See the pics I’m posting here. Shriveled shrinks cut into 3 pieces AND halved. No octopus at all, unlike their picture. Owner, Mike, have me major attitude and excuse that previous customers«complained» about the octopus and that’s why he did add any. They even charge 59¢ if you use your credit card, no matter what the amount. Don’t waste a dime on this place.

Sushi is not fresh! Ordered salmon & albacore sushi. The albacore was very fishy. The salmon had no flavor and the vinegar in the sushi rice was overpowering, unless they also coat their fish with it too. Stay away. Service was quick, but not friendly at all. Maybe due to my Groupon($ 30 worth of food for $ 17)? Octopus down the street, Aki’s on 4th or Saporro in 7th/PCH are all much better closeby options.

Sushi Zenmaru is less than okay. I wanted to check-it out, curious to its mixed-bag of reviews, and I dined at 12:30pm on a weekday. 3 diners occupied the small but bright restaurant as I ordered-up. My choice was the Bento Box — chicken teriyaki over white rice(brown was not an option this day); 4 pieces of California Roll; and two egg rolls. Neither of the three food options were good — makes me wonder what item would have filled the available Bento Box real estate. A salad with ginger dressing? — now that would have been good.

I don’t know why everyone keeps rating this place so poorly, I loved it! I’ve lived down the street from this place for over a year, but was always too nervous to try it because of the terrible reviews. Finally decided to just man up and try it. The service is fantastic. The girl at the counter was nice and patient. The restaurant was clean, with plenty of seating. The food came out in a reasonable time(hello people, real sushi is freshly made by hand, of course it will take a bit. If you want fast food, go to McDonalds). Was it the best sushi I’ve ever had? No, but I wasn’t expecting that. For what it is, I give it 5 stars. I will agree that it’s pretty pricey, but most sushi restaurants aren’t cheap anyway.
