Great food. We ordered 5 rolls. I loved the garlic edamame. Service okay. Servers didn’t clear plates. Sushi chefs quick. Kitchen and sushi station looked clean. Restaurant needed to be cleaned. Totally the ghetto. Vulgar music. Even though the food was good I don’t think I would go back.

You def get what you pay for here. Cheap sushi. Which can still be delicious, but can be hit or miss. We did the math on their $ 3 deal. Two people need to share at least 3 dishes to start saving money. Most dishes and rolls are $ 10 – 13 ea If you don’t do the deal.

Maru Maki is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in the Harbor Area. The rolls are great, at a very reasonable cost and the customer service is friendly. Favorite rolls include: Titanic, Baby lobster, and Salmon blossom. Highly recommended!

This is my husband and I go to date night spot since we first started dating. I love this place ! It’s a little small but we never have seating issues, mostly because we’re old and eat dinner around 5 – 6. The sushi bar is a great alternative if the dining area is busy. They have a big parking lot and are walking distance to the beach ! Very affordable sushi and still great quality. They give free saki with a large beer, charge $ 3 a roll(after the $ 8 sitting price) we never spend over $ 50 and that’s after lots of sushi, beer, and appetizers . Suggestions: stuffed jalapeños(amazing), titanic roll and of course the super awesome roll(we always order these when we come here)

The I was out visiting customers with big boss and as usual, I want sushi. So I get some Unilocal finding a place and come across Maru Maki. Little did I know that they have this special that blew me away. So we get there and I read — $ 5 service fee and $ 3 all plates except for the last page. So I’m like I can kill it! But my conscious is like — Jack, you need to lose weight, control yourself! So I unfortunately didn’t go overboard, but I ordered 4 orders of salmon sashimi(cause Salmon sashimi is freakin amazing), a spicy tuna hand roll, a stinky roll(dude, when your dealing with food, don’t name anything stinky! It’s just wrong…), a lollipop roll, and this tuna poke thing. Imagine, $ 29 for all that… It’s wonderful! The spicy tuna was ok, nothing special, actually a little too salty… The salmon sashimi was amazing, nice thick cuts, the poke was not really poke, but more of four chips and spicy tuna and a little ball as a dip. The stinky roll was a spicy tuna with salmon on top, tasted ok… Nothing good or bad… And the lollipop was good but I for some reason expected better… I usually feel like something with cucumber is really refreshing, which this was ok. Maybe if the cucumber was more fresh or colder??? I don’t know. The service was ok. There was a 5 minute span that I was trying to get the waiters attention but couldn’t… And considering how small this place is, that’s kinda bad. Overall, it’s like a battle of quantity vs quality. The quality is ok, I wouldn’t call it top notch or anything… The quantity depends on how much you can scarf down at $ 3 each roll/order, lol. Overall, this is a decent spot and I would totally come back. I just hope the service is just a LITTLE bit better. I would recommend trying it out! Not sure if you will like it or not, but I think it’s worth a try.

I’m not sure how I feel about the way the menu works. You can buy items at a certain price that’s higher, or you can pay a flat sitting fee and order the same items at a lower scale. If you’re planning on getting a lot of food, I guess the second option is best, but if you’re only planning on munching on a few items, then it’s best not to pay the fee. We paid the charge and ordered a variety of items. Probably the best was the most standard — sashimi slices on rice. Those were rather large, decent pieces. The yellowtail plate was good, but the roll we got(I can’t even remember what it was) was terrible. We didn’t even finish it, that’s how bad it was. A variety of other items were ordered, but none really stood out. It’s an okay place to eat, and I’m sure it’s fun with friends if you pay the fee and all get tons of different items to share, but for just two? I’d rather go elsewhere.

We came here a couple of weeks ago, and there was a party of 6 ahead of us, which meant that we were probably going to be seated in 40 minutes. So we decided to ditch this place and come back later. I came here with a couple of friends on Black Friday. I know, it sounds weird, like why would I even leave the house on Black Friday? Anyway, we ordered 6 different rolls, and we also got 2 orders of their fried calamari rings, and 2 orders of their popcorn shrimp. First off their food is good, especially since everything came out pretty fast! I like how they have a set price for people who just want to come in and eat some rolls. I’m not the biggest fan of raw fish like sashimi so that’s why I like eating rolls like this!

Have you ever seen a happy medium of pricing between retail sushi and AYCE sushi? This actually fulfills that AYCE feel without the pressure to actually AYCE. You’ll be comfortably full after three rolls, and toss in an appetizer and you’re pretty golden. I think I’ve found my sushi spot when I really don’t want to bust the bank nor want the pressure to overeat! Food($ 8 sitting fee, $ 3 per item): — Spicy Sashimi Salad: Very simple green leaf lettuce small salad as a bed, and a slight spicy quick marinade of sashimi pieces. Honestly it’s a nice introduction before tackling the rolls! It’s not complex in flavors, so dont expect anything great. It really is simple slighty spicy sashimi! If anything it’s a mild gochujang rub. — Rolls: A lot of the rolls have california roll interiors, and they do a great job making it plump and fresh without seemingly destroying the quality of the outer sashimi layers. Two people can eat six rolls and be a little uncomfortably full! Pros: — 45 dollars after tax and tip for seven items and two people — this is cheaper than AYCE and you leave feeling very full! — Quality of the sushi is not the best but it’s still boasting freshness. — Come at the right time and you dont have to wait that long at all. Actually, 30 minutes later there were a few parties waiting for a table — Parking for customers… is always a big deal. — Ask for a lot of ginger if you like it — they will smother you. — Perfect for groups if you have people that dont want to pay a premium price but still allow sushi gougers to have their fun. Blends both worlds very well! Cons: — It took us around 20 minutes to get our rolls. That was ten minutes too long! — If you come at a bad time, you’ll be waiting… a long time. — Desserts were not cheaper. They were at max $ 3. Boo! I’m thankful for this business model because in the end, I want to stuff my face with sushi but don’t want to be forced to be sneaky and covert about when I overeat. Maru Maki does a decent job keeping me on fleek. I’ll be returning for more!

I am unfortunately going to need to update my 5-star review to 2 stars. I really want to show Maru Maki some love but it has disappointed me greatly during my last two visits. The previous time I went with a group of 5 – 6 people. After that lunch, 3 of us — me being one of them — had upset stomachs. I had such a positive experience at Maru Maki’s before, so I thought that this visit was a fluke. I knew that I couldn’t give up on it. I just went there again tonight for dinner. I ordered 3 rolls for myself — so that’s $ 8 sitting fee + $ 3×3 rolls = a little over $ 20 after tip, which is pretty good for a sushi dinner. However, I was so disappointed in all of my rolls. I got the Titanic Roll, something with baked salmon on top, and something like the SS roll. I don’t remember the names but that was pretty irrelevant anyway because they all taste pretty much the same. They are super packed with rice, heavily sauced with mayonnaise or Sriracha or eel sauce, and are mostly imitation crab. I’ve been known to eat 5 – 6 rolls in one sitting, but after 2 rolls here, I just got sick of the heavy rice and sauce. The saucing was so overwhelming that I could hardly taste the tiny piece of fish that topped the roll. I was not pleased. Also, it’s very hot and stuffy in the restaurant. Sometimes they leave the door open and flies come in. I was swatting a fly throughout my meal. Not cool! Sadly, I will not be back. This was one of the first restaurants that I ate at when I moved to Long Beach one year ago so it once held a very fond spot in my heart. However, after being disappointed by it twice, I cannot justify coming back, especially since I can go to a really delicious sushi AYCE(Sake 2 Me FTW) for a few extra dollars.

$ 8 sitting fee for dinner and $ 3 items. If you eat like a sushi lover should eat you get more than a bargain! Of course, if you are just feeling like one roll and are watching your figure — you don’t have to pay the sitting fee — you can pay the $ 10 or whatever for the roll and be a spoilsport. I suggest you dive head in and GOFORIT. Started with miso for $ 1.50 — good with seaweed and tofu. Then got a seaweed salad — good sized. We shared a stinky roll(garlic sauce on the side — too hard on my gut) — which was a spicy tuna with salmon on top. Also shared a Lollipop(crab and sashimi wrapped in cucumber in ponzu). I had the salmon teriyaki, my friend had the salmon collar. I had salmon and yellowtail sashimi and we shared some shrimp tempura. Food was really good. The yellowtail sashimi was fresh and thick. Service was attentive and not overbearing. Reason it isn’t a five is because of the atmosphere. A tad rustic — not so clean restroom you use by going out the back door. And I was freezing my a** off the entire time… which made my dining experience, well, not so perfect. Not sure why they had to keep the temps sub zero! Nevertheless — will definitely be going back. You can’t beat those freaking prices. And we will sit at the bar — away from all of the vents!
