Hip, trendy, small, cramped, packed, waitlist if you’re not there at opening. The service is great, the sushi and sashimi are really good though a tad overpriced. They need to expand, pronto. The sushi dishes are all very good and served quick enough. The staff are very attentive but since the seats are all full they are lean on staff, so they are always running. It’s a bit of a frantic atmosphere and very cramped, so it feels like you should hurry up and get out so the people standing at the doorway staring at you can come in and eat…

I cannot say enough good things about this place! They are wonderful. They remember you! They remember your order! Such a beautiful place and top quality food. I have never had a bad order from them. Dine in and take out are both excellent. I have moved farther away but drive for the great food and wonderful people!

One of the best hidden spots in Long Beach. I recommend yellowtail with jalapeño(bomb fresh sushi/sashimi here). We come here as often as possible. Only bad thing about Kinoya is they are closed Sundays. Get there early the place is quaint and fills up quickly. Shout out to Augusto– great sushi chef and personality. He always crafts things together for us and they turn out amazing. I definately recommend

My partner and I are regulars here, every week. We tried this place by accident once and we are sooo glad we did. As others have posted, it’s a small and quaint restaurant, but the service and food are just fantastic. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, not overly pretentious. Our favorites are the Hawaiian Roll(ginger sauce!), Albacore Delight Roll and the Long Beach Roll. Not a fan of the baked salmon — but never have been at any other restaurant either. This is the prime example of how great things can come in small packages. We come here often, and will continue to do so.

I was excited to come here since the Unilocal reviews were good and a friend recommended it. Average fish quality at best and they don’t offer a sashimi plate. That can mean lower quality fish. My halibut sushi was doused in lemon juice and the yellowtail, albacore, scallop, and salmon sushi was average at best. Sushi chefs were unfriendly, but waitresses were excellent. Maybe your experience will be better than mine. Price is way too high for the quality.

Really fresh sushi! Great price points for the quality you get! Albacore delight was my favorite then Hawaiian roll. Uni is also super fresh. If you’re in the area, give it a try!

My girlfriend and I drive quite a distance to this location occasionally. It’s one of her favorite sushi spots. The sushi here has not disappointed us ever. The flavored rice gives every piece a unique taste. Our service experience was unforgettable. Our server Nicole was very attentive and she was great at suggestions. It’s also nice to be able to be extremely fresh UNI.

The staff is so nice and patient(we where waiting for our last party member after ordering– for like 15mins) the rolls are very good about 10 $ a pop and the hot sake is just a fun time 7 $ for large not bad. Cool music. Cozy. When we got here at 5:30 there were only two other guest bust as we stayed the place was filled and the restaurant is not that big but it’s overall a good sushi spot :) new customer

Service started out really good. Waitress was attentive and friendly, although I did find it a little weird that she didn’t try any of the sushi at the restaurant. Food was pretty good, we tried 4 different roll sushi(Hawaiian roll, mango roll, crab/lobster roll and spicy tuna, salmon and shrimp roll), and we had beer and 2 glasses of wine. The lobster crab roll was not my favorite because it had a really fishy taste. I isn’t care for the spicy tuna, shrimp and salmon roll either. It was starting to get a little busy. We ate and paid the bill and stayed to talk a little more. After a little while. we were told if «we mind leaving because people were waiting an hour to sit down». Really? We were getting kicked out because we finished eating??? Now I’m definitely not coming back here anymore. That was really rude and unacceptable!

More to add! This is our regular go to sushi place in LB now, and I feel like I know the menu too well. The chef said he would make us a chefs choice roll, and it was amazing melt in your mouth goodness as well as creative. Dear hubby and I were impressed. We don’t know what it was called, but anyway it was delightful! The yellow collar has a surprisingly good amount of meat on it and is also delicious. I normally don’t go for cooked fish at sushi restaurants, but this was worth it. Salmon scallop roll was okay, a little bland. My husband loves the blue crab sushi. I’m so so not a huge crab fan. The crunchy albacore, as someone else mentioned, was delicious! The crunchy onions are delicate, and the albacore is melt in your mouth good. Awesome pairing. Friendly service as always.

Wow, where do I even start. This place is definitely one of the best sushi spots in Long Beach. I decided to come here with my best friend for lunch. I got the lunch special with the 5 piece assorted sushi and our server recommended adding the spicy tuna salad. It was amazing. My friend got the baked salmon roll and it looked scrumptious. The quality of sushi here is up to par and even there ginger tasted so fresh. It is a very small place located near the same plaza as Trader Joes. It is a little dark in there, not a whole lot of natural light but it was still the perfect amount to create a nice ambiance. Service was great, everyone was so attentive. I would be back.

We went here for lunch yesterday and it was easily a 5 star experience. The service was great, and when we got seated they immediately served us some tasty miso soup. We then ordered 5 different rolls, all of which were really delicious. I don’t remember which ones they were exactly, but they were all really good! Definitely recommend for your sushi fix.

More like 4.5 stars! Location: A little strip mall with shared parking spots in front; next door to Chronic Tacos. Décor: Loved the private, intimate, yet festive setting. Bamboo/shades block the front window and lights are strung along the ceiling. Sushi chefs were wearing Hawaiian shirts. Service: Fantastic. Servers were fast & attentive. Drink: Nigori Sake, of course! Gyoza-(fried NOT steamed). I prefer it steamed, but daughter & hubby prefer it fried. Crazy Spicy Tuna Roll-too much batter and needed more flavor/kick 911 Roll-EXCELLENT. Huge hit at our table. 10 piece lunch special w/Spicy Tuna Roll: EXCELLENT. Sushi tasted fresh & simple(ponzu sauce sprinkled on top?). I was impressed. In the past couple of months, I’ve eaten sushi in Little Tokyo, downtown LA, etc and this little Long Beach spot, was a stand out. Wow. Mochi-Strawberry & Mango: Very Good. Especially, the Mango. Another great find and I have Unilocal to thank for it.

As Unilocal would state for a 5-star review, this is «as good as it gets!» I randomly stumbled upon this place when I was looking for some sushi around the Cerritos/Long Beach area, and I’m ECSTATIC that I found this gem! From the moment you walk into the restaurant, the ambiance and décor are very welcoming and hip. The staff is super friendly and greets you right away. We ordered the Crispy Onion Albacore(Albacore is their speciality), a spicy tuna roll, some salmon nigiri, and a salmon skin roll. The fish — SUPERFRESH and melts in your mouth The rice — Just the right amount of vinegar and comes room temperature(which I think is the best way to eat sushi rice) Crispy Onion Albacore — My ABSOLUTEFAVORITE. It comes covered in thinly sliced crispy onions which are not only crispy, but soft as clouds when they hit your tongue. You would think that this type of quality would come with a nice price tag, but it doesn’t! The Crispy Onion Albacore was about ~$ 12.xx and the rolls were around $ 5 – 8. The waitress informed me that they have awesome $ 10 lunch specials as well. DEFINITELYCOMINGBACKANDBRINGINGEVERYONE I POSSIBLYKNOWTOTRYIT! *TIP: On Mondays and Tuesdays they have 50% off Beer and Sake!

Pros: Fish is so fresh to death! Rolls are absolutely yummy! Service is unbeatable, they have your water refilled before it hits empty and your chopsticks wrappers gone in a heartbeat! Everyone is so respectful here! Cons: Salmon sashimi was a super small portion, would not get again. Usually not wait for lunch, but for dinner can take up to 30 min because they’re that good! Advice: Best Las Vegas roll you’ll ever have, 4 different kinds of fresh fish packed in one roll. Must try the Dragon roll(eel) as well, so delicious! The sushi special for lunch comes with miso soup, 5 pieces fresh sushi and one roll, good portion!

DEFINITELY a well deserved 5-stars!!! When we showed up on a Friday night at 7:45, we figured with the 6 names ahead of us that the wait would be bad. It wasn’t! 30 minutes later we sat down and had a chance to sample our typical sushi fare. Our server made great recommendations but the one item that stood out the most for me was the salmon rolls, VERY basic, awesomely priced and delicious. The salmon was tender, flavorful and quite honestly maybe some of the best I’ve ever had! I definitely consider Sushi Kinoya to be the epitome of FRESHSUSHI with WONDERFUL service at AFFORDABLE pricing. The environment was very efficiently used, we sat at a table by the bar and loved the dimly lit and intimate atmosphere. GARHHGHGH, I can’t wait to go back! YAH!

On this business trip, I decided to eat healthier, sticking to seafood. I decided to stop by at this charming restaurant on my way back to the hotel; unfortunately it’s not walking distance. From the outside the restaurant appeared uninviting, located in a strip mall. So I had second thoughts while parking, but when I peeked inside I was instantly hooked. The décor is fantastic with Japanese ambiance throughout. The inside is very cozy, quiet and romantic, a perfect place for date night. There are a few small tables and sushi bar tucked in the corner. The music was soothing and inviting. I strongly recommend reservations, especially on the weekends. The sushi chefs were Japanese exuding experience and skill. The younger waiter and waitress were professional, friendly, kind with upmost respect for their customers. The authenticity of the culture and service was quite of an experience. Each plate was cleared immediately from my view as I finished, and my green tea was always full and hot. I can’t praise the service enough. The décor and service earned an outstanding five stars, so what about the sushi? Without doubt also five stars; although I wouldn’t call myself a sushi expert, I’ve had my share of it in my life span. It was super fresh, the portions were perfect, presentation was appealing and tasted of high quality. I had several items with lack of control and fear of not being able to have it anytime soon. I indulged in: Sashimi Salad, Rainbow Roll, Yellowtail Roll, Saba Sushi, Spanish Mackerel Sushi and Yellowtail Sushi. The photos pretty much display the vibrant and freshness of the fish. It’s pretty obvious if I’ll be returning, and it will definitely be soon.
