My friend really wanted to go here for lunch, so I got sucked into eating here again. I was willing because I was having a hard day and really, really in the mood for a nice, strong margarita. I ordered one before my friend even arrived to meet me. Then it occurred to me that they probably only had a beer-and-wine license, since I didn’t see a real bar. I called the waitress back and she confirmed that. So basically they were going to give me a «wine margarita» without telling me it would not contain tequila or triple sec. «But people seem to like them,» she said. I hate wine margaritas and I think it was disingenuous not to mention that. I got up and told my friend we needed to go somewhere else, so we went to the sushi place next door. Won’t be back. It’s such a shame that it isn’t owned or run by the same people who run the other Super Mex’s which are much better. Or that they read these reviews, because if they did, they’d fire the chef.

Two weeks ago we came here and both of us had a bad experience with the beans. We mentioned it to the manager and he went and tasted it and agreed with us. He had them throw out the batch and remake a new one. So we came back tonight to try it again. I told the waiter I wanted a chili relleno and an enchilada but that I wanted rice and beans and I didn’t see that on the menu. He said«oh, you want a #3 and add a side of rice.» Then when they brought my order they brought me a taco and an enchilada. I pointed out the mistake and it all went downhill from there. The staff in the kitchen kept staring at us. When my correct order finally came it was overloaded with pepper. Who puts pepper in rice, enchiladas and chili rellenos? I figured it must be on purpose when they never came by to replenish our drinks or even ask how the food was. Our server was Manuel B. It was a very disappointing experience and we will not be back for a long time if ever.

What! Large salsa to-go used to be $ 3.73. I went in tonight and they charged me $ 6.00! That’s almost double! I used to come here twice a week for fresh salsa but not anymore. Plus the staff didn’t even know about the price change. Come to find out, they raised prices on ALL of the items on there menu. If your going to try Super Mex don’t come to this franchise. Take the drive down to the Atlantic Blvd. location in Bixby. They care about their customers and won’t screw you!

This place cooks most of its food with LARD. They cook their CHIPS in lard. I’m a vegetarian and learned about this after having about 3 chips. This is disgusting and quite frankly, irresponsible. I told the waitress I was a vegetarian and she did not think to tell me not to eat the chips. I will not be eating at any Super Mex restaurant again.

Friends from Chicago arrived hungry so we went straight to Super Mex down the street. The parking lot is busy, but a spot opened right in front of the restaurant like magic. Saturday at noon there was room in the patio and we were seated immediately with our choice of tables on the large patio. The service was great, the beers were cold, the food was excellent, and the cost was reasonable. Next time I’ll remember to bring the dog, too, since the patio is dog friendly!

What happened here? Came in during lunch hour and it was almost empty. That should have been our first sign something was wrong. Stood at the front desk and waited 10 minutes before anyone even notice we were there. We brought in a coupon for BOGO lite menu option and placed it on our table so the server could see it. Our server Maria ignored it before, during and after our meal. She acted as if it was a burden to serve us. Never checked to see if we were ok or needed anything else. I asked why she never took the coupon and said that we don’t accept it here at the Spring Street location. She could have said that when she first ignored it. We have been loyal customers to this location for years. Service here is terrible. That must be why it was empty at lunch time. We will no longer be going to Super Mex.

Im done with super mex! When ordering burritos and made to order guacamole(for take out), I’m given minimal chips. I was told I get two chips and a salsa let burrito. Fine, I’ll buy the extra chips I would get if I ate in the restaurant. I’ll only get the guacamole when I eat in. Today, I order burritos only and pay for extra chips and salsa. I get home, and there’s more chips than can be eaten and NO salsa. What good is a burrito workout salsa? Hello Holé Molé!

Really awful food. Ordered to go this evening; crisp beef tacos and green chile pork burrito. Burrito was tasteless and tacos were soggy, thin, and tastless. Chips were stale. Location is close to home so we want it to be decent, but no. This is the 3rd and last time we will eat here.

This place is not all that. The manager here was not helpful at all. The staff here are great. This location is not big party friendly. The wait time is to long and I feel this place does not have to skill or knowledge to handle big party. Last time I bring my family and friends I this location. If u ever or at least come here. Use waitress Nikki she was great. Manager is a bullshitter.

One star is too much The service is always bad The 2nd street one is better or just get your food to to haha at least you only get attitude for 5 minutes when you’re picking food then again maybe not went to pick up my phone order they gave it away to someone else before I got there instead of being nice the girl acted like I was asking too much to order my food again haha oh well baja sanora is right down the street.

What a disappointment. Went to eat with my sisters to celebrate our annual ornament exchange luncheon. My sister, who had stomach surgery and cannot eat a huge plate of food, asked to order off the kids menu. The waitress was extremely rude and said that because she was not a child she could not order off the kids menu. When we politely asked her if there could be an exception because of her condition the waitress asked if my sister carries a medical card indicating her condition. So absurd to me, so we ask that she speak with the manager. She then came back and said that her manager would make this ONETIME exception, but NEVER again. Rude service. Not to mention that the food tastes disgusting. American style of Mexican… no authenticity here.

Poor service at the front desk. I can never get someone one the phone. I call, get put on hold, hung up on, follow up with another call and it goes right into a voice message. This has occurred several times.

Seriously disappointed in this place! This is now the last time we will give them our business! Tried to call and order and was placed on hold for almost 5 minutes. Hung up and called back and it went straight to voicemail at least 10 times. My wife got in the car and drove over there(since it’s 2 minutes away) and was treated like crap! Other orders were given out before ours and she ended up waiting for 45 minutes! The order was missing my taquitos when she got it home and the rest of my meal was cold! EVERY other Super Mex location has bean & cheese burritos that are literally twice the size of this location’s! The service has never been what it should be(have to flag someone down all the time for refills) and we are no longer going to patronize them! Sorry… your lack of attention to detail and sub par food isn’t going to cut it!

Took the staff here for lunch. It is a local Mexican eatery in a city with a lot of choices. The food is consistently good, affordable and the location can’t be beat. There is a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating and they can accommodate big groups. I really hate to give my local Super Mex only 2 stars, but I have to express my disappointment — it needs to be said. I hope the owner takes notice because this is easy to solve. I rarely eat in at Super Mex on Spring because I don’t like the ambiance — too cafeteria like and noisy. Also, the beer selection is sub-par — this place needs some craft brew — every restaurant in southern cal should have at least one IPA to offer. Anyway, I often order take-out, as the food at Super Mex is excellent Mexican food and the price-point is great. My family loves to order take-out and eat in the comfort of our home and I get to drink a great IPA with the food. Unfortunately the quality of the take-out food is spotty, 50⁄50 at best. This is entirely the fault of the cooks. The food is slapped together without any care for quality(half the time). My kids love bean and cheese burritos — many times we got them with a clump of cold(not melted) cheese on one end of the burrito no cheese on the rest of the burrito. This is entirely due to a lack of attention and care from the cooks. I even had to resort to telling the order taker over the phone: «Please have the cooks spread the cheese evenly throughout the burrito». One time the cashier even told me the cooks thought my request was strange — unfortunately its not strange for my family since we have been disappointed more than once. Last Sunday night was the worst take-out experience I have had yet — so much so that my family and I felt compelled to do something — we decided that calling and complaining wouldn’t’ do much good — so we turn to Unilocal. I ordered a cheese enchilada combo plate for my daughter. The re-fried beans and rice were served in such a thin layer on the aluminum foil plate that we needed to use a putty knife(kidding) to scoop up a small spoon full. It was pathetic and obviously the cooks have no quality control in their take out. The bean and cheese burrito had the same cheese problem as before. I ordered a cheese quesadilla and got a chicken one instead — normally this would be okay, but it was for a vegetarian. I ordered fried jalapenos and got a chile relleno instead — this was the fault of the not so bright cashier and not the cooks. When you spend $ 40 on take-out, 15 minutes of drive time, 10⁄15 minutes waiting and get home with poorly prepared food — it kinda ruins dinner! The cooks can be very busy during dinnertime — I understand that, but I imagine a large percentage of Super Mex’s business comes from take-out. I would think they would take more care to make sure the food is prepared well.(By the way, the sign at the take out that says: «Extras are Extra» is off-putting to say the least). I have to suspect that since the food is not plated and the customer can’t give immediate feedback, they just don’t care as much. But, it is their business and I am thinking about striking Super Mex off my list — how many times can I be disappointed?
