North-West College – Long Beach

I will update this review each step of the way…
STEP ONE (1÷25÷16). My wife and I scheduled an appointment for more information. In the office, we saw a video detailing the founder’s background, the college’s beginning and mission, success stories, etc, and it was inspiring. I even saw one of my co-​workers (a nurse) in the video! The president walked through the lobby (I recognized him from the video) and said hello to everyone, and it was obvious to me that he’s a hands-​on guy.
We met Tamami M. and she was a perfect introduction to the school, super professional but friendly, answering questions directly, honestly, and clearly. She gave us a quick tour of the lecture/​lab area. She offered my wife the chance to speak with financial aid (to make payments for the all-​encompassing, no-​hidden-​fee tuition, which was lower than we anticipated) or to take a placement test, but didn’t pressure her when she said would wait a week to prepare.

This school is amazing and has set me on a new an exciting career pathway that I have come to enjoy so much!
(I write this review free of any incentive and from an honest, and personal point of view.)
FIrst and Foremost —
I’m a Veteran and I used the remainder of my Post ⁹⁄₁₁ GI BILL (chapter 33) flawlessly without any hassle or non-​sense at 100% of the BAH benefits.
Secondly, North-​West College’s vibe is that of a very close, family orientate, warm and very friendly and extremely safe environment (safe because of the school’s internal security posture and because of the security officer the school has on site *every* evening until all students have departed the campus).
I never could of foreseen the benefits i have come to find here; I wish i could say it another way, but i firmly believe this vocational college saved my life.
Before i started at this school in July of 2015, I had experienced a string of failures, which played a number on my self esteem and lead me to forget who I was. But I ended up finding my second family here. And its been such a positive life changing experience for me.
The Medical Assisting Programs Instructor, Ms. Laura Jimenez, has had an unbelievable positive impact on the lives of almost all of our evening class, including myself, through her abilities at being an excellent communicator of the academic knowledge contained within the programs curriculum and by having a unique and patient methodology of training and high level of expertise (and skills sets) that she employs during the daily Clinical Laboratory skills portion of the program (which is a dedicated Clinical Laboratory fully equipped and used exclusively for the Medical Assisting Program located on-​site here at the Long Beach.
I feel its important for me to clarify that every program has its own dedicated clinical Laboratory training room which are all fully stocked and equipped with the proper and up to date devices and machines.
Again, Ms. Laura Jimenez, the Medical Assisting Instructor gets an A++ for being an awesome Instructor,
I will never forget the second family I have discovered and love dearly from here!

I love this school! The teachers are knowledgeable, creative, and caring. The staff knows everyone by name and they really are interested in you as a person, not just a number. Ms. A and Ken make the DMS program so much fun and do everything they can to make sure you understand all the information you are learning. Everyone’s goal is to help you get a career in the best field out there! Thank you North-​West College!!!

DMS Program is great. instructors are patient and helpful. Best learning experience of my life. No a better program to give me the skills necessary to move forward with my chosen career path. Thank you all so much.

Contacting NWC was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. From the time I received my first phone call to come in and meet with my admissions counselor (Nancy) and all the way through the enrollment process, all of the staff have been so great to me. One of the decision factors of choosing NWC vs. other colleges was the flexibility of their evening programs especially for those that work a fulltime job like myself. Not only that, but their campus is clean and the staff and management create a welcoming environment which is essential. I just started my first week for the VN program and I’m very impressed with what I see. Our instructors create a learning environment that’s fun and interactive, and it motivates us to want to come to class and learn… and that is something I rarely ever say. Definitely looking forward to the next 15 months!

Going here is by far one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life, I’m so thankful for everything the staff has done for me, from Thea, Francis, Juan and my amazing professor Mr. Le, I couldn’t of asked for better people to guide me through my hardships and help me move forward to reach my dream.

I just signed up for the Vocational Nursing program, even though my class doesn’t start for another 4 months. I overly excited for it to start.
Before I went to ACC to look into there programs and I did not like it at all, they were very pushy just wanting me to sign up.
Here at North-​West my administor (Francis) gave me time to think about it, she didn’t call me the next day to rush me at all, which I love. Overall the staffs are so welcoming and so friendly, its like they are family members. the administrators are awesome there.
The school isn’t big at all, nice size and very clean.
I can’t wait to start class.

The staff and management are incredibly considerate and willing to go out of their way, even think outside of the box to help their students.
I just started the Sonography program and some issues due to construction were forming for everyone. They had to delay my course start, but I had just quit my job when they informed me of this.
A week later they contacted me and came up with a plan to start me ahead of my class just to assist in making sure that I don’t end up being unable to afford my rent for the next month.
I also have to use public transportation and a bike to get to the school which require me to wake up at 5am. No time for food or coffee on most days that I’m running late. The vending machines are limited and expensive, so I offered to try bringing in some things to exchange regularly with the other students like tea or snacks, and the very next day after I inquired with the director about it, she went above and beyond to have a nonprofit exchange run through her office for all students to contribute and share from. She even brought apples.
So far the school seems extremely supportive and reasonable. My only criticisms are of discrepencies in the Success course that everyone starts with. It’s full of false claims and pretty language to help build a sort of pride/​philosophy of the school. It could use some work, but just about every technical school comes with a «How To Be Professional» class with a similar amount of BS for curriculum. ITT’s was worse in my experience. Still, the curriculum doesn’t have an author, let alone any sources to support it’s claims.
If you are a disabled veteran like me, you can get approved for taking Sonography here through ch 31, just work with the voc rehab office at the hospital to make it happen.
