I thought it was great that Sansum’s Lompoc lab is now run by Pacific Diagnostics instead of Sansum. Everyone was professional and friendly in the lab. I didn’t get a nasty bruise because they actually use Coban instead of just a little medical tape that tears up your skin. I walked away thinking I’d had a wonderful experience. And then I got my bill. It should be illegal what goes on in the medical profession. I’ve NEVERSEEN a stat charge from Quest Diagnostics. NEVER. They just do it. I FEEL bruised after getting a surprise bill, even though they didn’t bruise me on the day. On the one had, if you’re a busy professional who doesn’t have much time to get away, Lompoc has a lab that can do stat testing.(IN case you don’t know what that is, it means a test that your doctor wants results on the same day.) On the other hand, I STILL think it should be illegal to fail to inform people that insurance companies might not pay a stat charge of $ 21 and that it will fall to YOU, the consumer. You will most likely not have a problem with routine testing, since there won’t be a stat(or same day results) ordered by your doctor. I really think that they should inform UPFRONT of what charges might not be covered by an insurance company so that I don’t have a nasty surprise. This would be considered illegal in terms of most other services that I can think of. Why does the medical world get away with such things that others don’t? In any case, now you know. I have updated my review to add a star because the business office called me back, agreeing that it was unfair to be changed without having been first informed. This lab can probably handle your lab work faster than the hospital laboratory.
