To the very helpful Kauai Beach Boy that helped me with my snorkeling equipment, I thank you tremendously! I had packed my own snorkeling gear for our vacation, only to find out that I was sucking in nothing but water. I was ready to have to rent gear, so I went to Beach Boys and was so pleasantly surprised when the kind employee fixed my snorkel and went out of his way to find new parts for me. He was helpful on 2 separate occasions. I will always remember his kindness to me, I just wish I could remember his name! Kauai Beach Boys was well represented that day and I will forever be grateful!

I have never been discriminated against in Hawaii for not being born on the island until now. I asked for a Kamaāina discount and they let me know that was only for people born and raised in Hawaii. I let them know that’s discrimination and every other place that offers a Kama’aina discount just asks you to show your local ID. I live on island and have a local ID. Apparently that’s not enough for a break in rental prices. Those are only for people«born and raised on Hawaii.»

Kayaks had leaks with cracks. Im surprised they rented out damaged kayaks. Boats filled with water and kept flipping over, at one point over half the kayak was under water. Huge safety risk.

We tried out 5 different kayaks. They all had leaks. Our friends were in a different kayak, and theirs became so full of water that it caused them to flip. A cruise ship headed straight at them as they started to frantically get back on the half-submerged kayak and paddle to avoid the ship. This company’s kayaks are an extreme safety hazard.

AMAZINGEXPERIENCE I am no athlete, but I do like an adventure and wanted to try my hand at paddle boarding while in Hawaii. The concierge at the Grand Hyatt suggested Kauai Beach Boys, and she said to take their lessons on Kalapaki Beach as it is the best water on the island for learning water sports. She was absolutely right! This was a great experience from start to finish. Krishan was my instructor, and he was so gentle and reassuring. He worked with my physical limitations given my medical condition, and I always felt safe. Krishan carried my paddle board for me while I carried the paddles; that’s really a nice service. The lesson was $ 75 for 1.5 hrs… one-on-one. That’s a steal of deal in my book. Tipping is customary for these experiences, FYI. There is on-site changing room upstairs with plenty of counter space, a clean restroom, etc. Downstairs, the staff will store your belongings while you are out on the water. I borrowed some rubber bands for my hair; they were very accommodating. Even if you have on proper attire, they will offer you a long-sleeved rash guard shirt so that you don’t have to get yours wet. After your lesson, the staff will show you to an outdoor rinse station so that you can clean off some of the sticky sand. Getting there is a bit of challenge. Go towards Duke’s, and you will find the parking lot. There is a small sign atop a surf shop, and that is where you can check-in and get any last-minute items(croaky for your sunglasses, towel, etc.). I plan to go back the next time I am in Kauai, and hopefully I will be a better paddle boarder by then. :) Wear a bathing suit, wear some nylon work-out pants or rash guard pants/board shorts, a baseball cap, croaky, sunscreen. Bring a towel and a change of clothes. Water sport shoes are optional.

Had a private stand up paddle board lesson here. First of all, I really, really suck in the ocean. Only wanted to try it because a friend did it. The bay was extremely choppy that day and the instructor was really excellent working with the conditions and my poor skills. My husband got on his board and took off. As for me, I needed a lot of help getting on my board and standing up. The instructor stayed with me most of the time to give me guidance and help me back on the board after falling off. I finally got it! All in all, great instructor. Was very patient working with me. In addition, he helped my husband«surf» the wave on the way back to shore. He said it felt better than a good golf shot and the«surfing» made his day. Highly recommend these guys for a private lesson.

Loved the surf lesson I had earlier this week but rented a board today and the guy who rented me a soft top have me one that looked like it should be in the trash. it was all cut up and glued back together. pretty much ripped my legs to shreds when I was out there. I even told the guy when he handed me the board that it looked like it has been shredded. Good answer was,“it won’t matter”… both my thighs are chafed and cut up. so. It matters. When I returned it and told him, he said it’s part of the sport and that I should have slapped him before I took the board out.. He also told me I should have worn shorts… Frankly, I think he should have just rented me a board that’s not trashed… It’s have given this a single star but that would do no justice to the awesome surf instruction I had.

This is a great place to rent paddle boards or surf boards on Kalapacki Beach. They also give lessons, and it had a time with Mark, who was very patient and give great instruction. I hope to be back soon. This place is next to Duke’s Restaurant.
