Always a good place to get good beer. They have the ability to serve someone who just wants to wet their whistle, a beer enthusiast, or a beer snob. BTW… the term wet your whistle came from long ago in the old pubs across Europe. They had very high, long bars that were dimly lit and very loud. Beer steins had a whistle built into the handle so you could blow it loud to get the tender’s attention when you wanted another drink. The tender would hear it, come to you, and say«Can I wet your whistle?»

We were looking for a place for Belgian beer, found the Beer Trappe on Unilocal. It was in a nice neighborhood away from the downtown area Lexington. The bar was filled with racks of beer from all over but a good majority were Belgian. We enjoyed a few beer they were much more reasonably priced than in DC. People were engrossed in watching football on TV in a relaxed atmosphere. The staff was friendly. What a great find!

This place was fantastic. Superlative beer selections available for consuming at the tap room and a great selection of rare and seasonal offerings both local and Belgian for takeaway. Anytime I find myself back in this area in absolutely making a point to come back. Prices are on point fair, especially since you can usually try before you buy as everything they have for takeaway is sold for consumption too.

If you really like good beer, and relish the thought of trying rare, and in some cases, once n a lifetime brews, The Beer Trappe is the place for you.

I have been here a few times now and am quite a fan. I love beer or as I call it on occasions«Juice». This place is like a Beer Lovers Mecca. They have a lot of taps and rotate the beer after every keg. That is really impressive. They also have a wall of coolers filled with bottled beer and a Wall O Beer as well. It is Beer Beer Beer and I love it. The staff are hit or miss. Some are chatty and some are just there to get a check. The will enlighten you on any beer when you ask though. That is always a nice thing. They had my favorite beer of all time on tap the first time I popped into here. The best beer ever is La Fin Du Monde by Unibroue. It was such an awsome day and getting this beer on tap makes it all the better. There are a few places to sit/stand here both inside and out. It tends to get crowded rather quickly. If you like beer options and are near Chevy Chase area, stop in and get a draw. It is a very impressive place. Great job guys.

Beer is good but it’s beer. The service here is why we won’t be back. Barely greeted us. Didn’t make eye contact or smile. Didn’t say hi. Nothing. Poured our drinks and never checked with us again. We had to approach and ask for the check. We were the only people in there. No excuse for a business to have poor service like this.

The Beer Trappe has found a neat little niche as a club house of sorts for Lexington beer cognoscenti, and does it well. They offer a medium-sized decently-curated selection of quality beers on tap and in bottles, for consumption on premises or for unopened take-away. All the usual suspects are here(rejoice Chimay fans) as well as interesting selections from local brewers. My only quibbles are that they don’t have a great selection of sour beer or European dry ciders, and that they don’t really serve food, but I can respect both decisions. There are other food options on the block if you need something to take the edge off of the alcohol, as well as a nearby Kroger. The Beer Trappe is definitely a valued part of the Lexington scene, and I hope they become successful enough to open another location with a full gastropub kitchen. Quirky recommendation: if you like banana bread, try the Well’s Banana Bread beer, which the Beer Trappe has in bottles. I don’t normally like novelty beers, but this one is worth trying once(probably because I absolutely adore banana bread).

There is no better beer place than this in Lexington and aren’t many, I dare say, in the country as a whole. They have a constantly rotating line of draft beers in whatever came in that day and is fresh and a selection of bottles that lines the entirety of the back wall of the building that will suit pretty much any preference that you could possibly want at that moment. They also have events that come in and bring in extremely rare beers, all of which are incredibly tasty, as well as a beer school every Sunday which will teach you all that you could ever want to know about any beer that they have. Everyone who works there is incredibly knowledgeable and can describe each of the beers in intricate detail and tell you what you might and might not want in a beer. They’ve been nothing but absolutely incredible to be every time I have been there as well as being very friendly to someone from out of town. Also, if you want a low key place to watch a game without all of the normal trappings of the many college bars in the area, this definitely checks that box as well. All in all a truly great place to go for an introduction to craft beer or the most obscure beer that you can possibly think of quaffing.

If you’re in Lexington and love craft beer, this is the place for you. They may not have the largest tap selection, but they make up for it with quality brews. You won’t find any macroswill on tap here. There are also literally hundreds of bottles to choose from to drink in the bar, and many more available to go. The staff here are very knowledgeable and can be a big help in making a selection if you’re not too sure where to start. The prices are very reasonable as well. Be sure to check out their special events too. I recently went to their Bourbon County tasting, and while it was crowded, it was a great time. Run, don’t walk to The Beer Trappe.

I’ve only been to the beer trappe once and it was so packed I couldn’t even get to the bar to order a drink — it was during one of the festivals in Chevy Chase. Needless to say it left an impression on me and I’ve yet to return — perhaps I should! I’ve heard its a great place.

A must visit! Huge selection of beer for sale & taps continuously rotate for drinking pleasure. Kevin(& all the staff) are very knowledgeable… They know beer-period. Great atmosphere & neighborhood(Chevy Chase). They have a couple things to munch on & will allow you to bring in or order in food if you need a meal. Not a huge place so come early, grab a barstool or table, kick back &ENJOY!

Fantastic selection of beer, all shapes and sizes. Lacking in the snacking department and customer service, but let’s face it, you want beer, this is a fantastic spot to try out. You can purchase from the tap an ever changing menu of beer ranging across the gamut of beer styles. They have bottles as well that are rotated just as the tap is. They have their beer wall where you can choose from their good sized selection something to take home with you. When you first walk in there is a new arrivals section to always keep the place up to date with the season. This place is very laid back, mostly bar seating with a couch and a couple chairs in a corner. The negative aspects definitely come in the food department and customer service. I hope you like beer cheese and rolds gold pretzels, because that is it for the snack department. Customer service, standoffish, snobby, uninformative people who spend all their time talking to each other and checking out their Facebook to actual get you your beer. When you do get it, all is right with the world. You guys want that extra star, work on the communication with your customers, engage them just a little more than«what beer do you want.»

Delicious beers on draft — I recently had an absolute fantastic glass of Brooklyn«Weizenhammer» here, one of the best beers I’ve ever had. I look forward to their beer school. Very broad and fine selection of bottled beers from all over the world.

I’ve been here a few times but usually I tag along to be the DD. I am not a huge fan of beer and when I do drink it, I like to first sample it. Apparently they frown on that here. Oh well, not a huge deal but I wasted a beer once because I wasn’t a fan. They do have a lot of options though and I am sure that people who know their beer(not I) are completely content with what they choose. They offer beer school, so maybe I should take a class to learn more about beer and less about being the designated driving. The website never seems to be updated with the calendar of events and classes. Their Twitter page seems to be more informative. I love the ambiance, out door seating and the atmosphere. Parking– I haven’t seemed to figure that one out yet… other than the street/metered parking. On the weekends and M-F after 5pm, the meters though they are scarce, they are free. I am quite sure that the frequenters know of a parking secret though and maybe I’ll eventually figure it out and share it in an updated review.

Why 4 stars? Because this appears to be the best beer selection in Lexington. — — — One of my favorite things to do when visiting a new town is to try out the local beer spots. The Beer Trappe was VERY crowded on a Monday night, which I was surprised by. I assume it’s because there aren’t many places like it in the area… it’s where all the beer enthusiasts land. I spent a long time deciding on what I wanted, and I went with the olé reliable Great Lakes Christmas Ale from Cleveland. I also tried some kind of special release for that evening… I wish I could remember what it was called, but it was something to do with Bourbon. I enjoyed it, despite not liking Bourbon itself. I would definitely hit up the Beer Trappe again… but next time I’d try to head over earlier, and hoping it’s slightly less packed.
