J & W Asian Bistro is in the place of the former O. K(Oriental Kitchen) Restaurant. This place has been open for some time now, but I have not been back since I started Unilocaling. So last night my wife was in the mood for some Chinese food, so I said sure. Instead of going to my usual place, I decided to give J & W another shot. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and Hot and Sour Soup for me and Beef and Broccoli for my wife. When I walked in, the place was completely empty. I was the on one there beside the employees and the fish in the pond. I walked up and was greeted by the sushi chef. He gave me a menu and took my order. Then that was about it. As I stood there he just played on the computer and didn’t say much to me. I asked him if it was busy today and he said it was earlier, then he went back to surfing the web or whatever he was doing on the computer. My food arrived and I left. The drive home was pretty quick and the food was still piping hot. That’s a good sign. I noticed the hot and sour soup first. It was a nice color and was full of tofu, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo, egg. I don’t remember if there was pork in it or not. I was too hungry to notice. The soup it self was a little gelatinous but it had a decent flavor. They did use a lot of pepper, that was almost the first taste I go. Not bad, but definitely better than most in Leesburg. For a restaurant that says the cook authentic Chinese food, the Kung Pao disappointed me. I opened it up and I saw green peppers, red peppers, onions, and onions. Oh man. There were no scallions /green onions, but plenty of peanuts and chicken. So much for being authentic. This is the Americanize style. Authentic Kung Pao is chicken, peanuts, and scallions and sauce. Now the sauce surprised me because it didn’t taste like hoisen or plum sauce. Instead it was more of a soy base, which is what the authentic kung pao is. Take out the veggies and it was almost be there. The sauce was a little bland, nothing to brag about. The actual star of the night was the beef and broccoli. The meat was nice and tender and the broccoli was not over cooked. The sauce was flavorful and a little sweet. I enjoyed that a lot more than my kung pao. This place also claims to make good Thai food. Please, if you are a Chinese restaurant please, please, please, please, stick to your own food. If I want Thai food, I’ll go down the street. I have yet to have a good Pad Thai at any Chinese restaurant. Yes I have tried, always seems somebody in my party will order it. Now, I have not tried theirs, but I’m willing to bet on it. So if you want decent hot and sour soup and good beef and broccoli, then this is your place.

Stopped in for some afternoon sushi. Prices are ok. We ordered 6 various rolls, including one specialty roll and paid $ 35 before tip. Dinosaur specialty roll is very tasty and about 10 lg maki pieces for $ 11.95, which is good. Peanut roll is literally boiled peanuts and avacado but surprisingly addictive in its crunchiness. Atmosphere is nice, a little kitschy on the décor, but overall very comfy. Will definitely go back!

Pam was right. The joint was empty(so what, this means no lines). The sushi was DELICIOUS, FRESHANDVERYREASONABLE. Try the Volcano roll and any of their nigiri sushi(that’s the stuff with a little fish and a little rice). I’ll try the Tom Yum soup once it cools down outside(soon enough). We FINALLY found our sushi place and we’ll be back often. Shie shie.

I’ve lived in Leesburg a long time and remember when this used to be The Oriental Kitchen. I guess it changed owners a few years ago and has been renamed. Based on the reviews I thought I’d give it another shot. I was very disappointed. I think I would have been less disappointed if I hadn’t read the reviews. I went on a Saturday afternoon with my husband and there wasn’t a soul in the restaurant, that should have been my first clue. The wait staff was scattered and they actually got one of our orders wrong, even though there wasn’t a single other customer in the place. The food wasn’t very good though the pork satay off the Barbeque menu was pretty good and I might even actually order again. We tried sushi, barbeque and the buffet and everything was mediocre. The hot and sour soup was bland. I was really hoping a decent sushi place had come to Leesburg, but unfortunately not yet.

I went with my girlfriend to J&W after reading Pam’s review of the place. J&W is a quiet place with tasty food. I tried the Tom Yum soup, but it was too spicy for me. My girlfriend had the Wonton soup and she loved it. But the best part was the Sushi. I highly recommend this place for sushi lovers.

I was really surprised to be the first one to review this place. Sadly, everytime we have been here, they are less than busy, almost empty. We walked in and were a little afraid at first, you don’t wanna get sushi from a place that doesn’t have good turnover, right? We bit the bullet and tried it anyhow… Since that day, we have ordered take out sushi a number of times, my husband loooves their tom yum soup, we have had numerous entrees, appetizers, and definitely more sushi than anything else. I DONOT understand at all why this place isn’t busier! Their sushi is fresh, fantastic, and the sushi chef is the sweetest guy! He takes real pride in what he does there. The fish is always great, he’s amazing at what he does, and their prices are more than reasonable. Their only downfall is maybe being in Leesburg? It’s sad, because their food is spectacular. Luckily for us, we live close enough to eat sushi there at least once a week. I would say for anybody around the area, give it a go. The prices are awesome for the pure quality and heart that you are getting. I love this place, they always remember you, the sushi chef will talk to you about why he does what he does, why this is good with that, etc… Try it out!
