Started coming here about a year ago, when I felt the very expensive salon I was going to was giving me less and less time with the stylist, and having trainees do the blow dry. Also felt it was a little too«glitzy», so Firefly, which I found through a friend, has been perfect. Quality without the ‘tude. The first time I went, I came back the next day a little embarrassed and asked if next time, it could be a little«messier» for easier styling. Massimo fixed it then and there. Today, I got a cut, said I was going to a wedding, and he gave me a more glamorous styling, no problem, no extra. Color with Natalie is terrific, exactly right. I’ve done a fair amount of: I want layers, now I want longer, now I’ll try soft bangs, and I’m always accommodated. Products are also wonderful.

The colorist did not engage me with at all and didn’t even check in on me after putting the dyeon. The assistant was nice enough asking if I wanted water and cleaning up stains on my forehead. The colorist went back into a «break-room» and didn’t come out at all. Not to ask me if liked the color or if I was happy with it.. Massimo wasn’t there and even though I had y schedule a haircut, I decided to get one with a stylist that was available. I won’t be going back.

I really wanted to like this place because it would’ve been a great thing to have a BB-quality salon in W’chester for when I visit my family. I got one phenomenal blowout from a stylist, but when I went back to get another from the same stylist, it wasn’t anywhere near as good. And I got a cut from the owner, Massimo — once. He was apparently too busy trying to seem cool to pay attention to cutting my hair; either that, or he’d been hit in the head before I arrived. I couldn’t see exactly how bad the cut was because of the blowout, which he gave me grudgingly when his assistant was too busy to do it, although as he was twisting sections of my hair and literally slicing them off, I was NOT happy. I know this is a technique, but there are other ways to remove bulk and texturize that don’t leave you with stalks of hair sticking out as they grow in. When I washed and dried it myself, though, I saw the real disaster he’d created: The left front of my hair was a full half-inch longer than the right side. That was nothing compared to the mess in the back. It looked as though a bear had taken a bite out of my hair. It was jagged and incredibly crooked, ranging from an inch to three inches difference in length across the back. I had to have four inches of my hair cut off to fix it, which really pissed me off because I’d spent over a year growing it out. The only reason I’m not giving it one star is because the person who did my blowout does know what they’re doing, even though it was somewhat disappointing the second time. I *might* try a blowout with them again to see which outcome was the fluke. But unless you want to look like Chuckie from Rugrats, do NOT let Massimo near your head with anything resembling scissors.

Salon Firefly is a nice little slice of Bb culture right here in Larchmont. It’s small but it feels like a real salon(not a cheesy local salon) and they turn out good work. I have seen Jackie for two years and she does a great job every time. Her haircut is $ 90 which is pricey for a haircut but for a good Bumble trained stylist it’s really right on par.

Love this salon! Dawn’s been cutting my hair for about 20 years — since her early days at b&b. Now that she and Massimo have opened their own place, it’s been heaven! And so close! They’ve hired a terrific troupe of stylists and colorists to work wonders on your fabulous mane! Stop in! Say hello! And have your tresses worked on by the talented team at Firefly.
