I’m guilty of judging stores by their names and their windows. When Altar’d State first moved in to the Meadows Mall and I saw lots of cutesy clothes and décor in the windows, I assumed it was some cross between Anthropologie and Francesca’s and never went in. After striking out at New York & Co. and Loft last Thursday, I decided to give it a try and probably spent half an hour in the store. Altar’d State is a rather large store with lots of cool clothes and other things! The store definitely caters to a high school-early 30s demographic. The styles are cute but relaxed. Consequently, there aren’t many dresses I would wear to work, so Altar’d State might not be a regular stop for me. They sell Tom’s shoes. There’s a separate clearance area in the back. The employee who helped me find a skirt was really nice and quite apologetic that it didn’t come in another color. I heard modern(?) Christian music play, but not loudly, on the speakers. Then I thought, «Oh. That kind of altar. Lol.» Anyway, I’m very pleased I gave the store a chance. I’m looking forward to checking out that clearance again.
