I’ve been shopping here since I was a little kid. I have fond memories of buying Botan Rice Candy with any spare change I could scrounge. Now, as an adult, I enjoy the other Asian wares. ;-) This is a true local Laguna Beach treasure.

I don’t come to this neck of the woods very much because of the distance but when I do, I always stop in this store. It’s a small store nestled in between restaurants Watermarc and Asada, east of Laguna Ave, on the northside of S Coast Hwy. The store itself is a quirky brick and light wood cottagey storefront which seemed a little out of place by the flashy stores beside it. Walk-in and you won’t regret it! You are immediately greeted by kindly Mr. Fong and his lovely elegant wife who is eager to tell you stories about each piece of art or jewelry. They have delicate figurines, sterling object d’art, kimonos, all sorts of Asian home décor and gifts. Antique stores can be intimidating but not this one. The store owners don’t hover and are not pushy. You will find something you just can’t live without. Take your time because you don’t want to miss anything. This store is almost magical! I bought 2 carved bone and glass bracelets and two figurines in onyx and lapis. The total was less than a single piece of jewelry at the Art Festival. Not knocking the handmade art pieces, but these were so much more fun!

This is one of my favorite places in the whole world! Soo-o-o much fun to browse and of course, buy. :) I’ve got a little cricket in a cage, and several handmade kimono cards, and other items from Mr. Fong. Can’t wait to go back. Problem is, I live on the E. Coast.

This is such a great little store, in no small part due to the owner, Mr. Fong. He has been in business over 60 years and has a story about almost every piece in his store. You’ll want to buy from him just because he’s so nice. The store has a lot of Asian giftware — jade jewelry, and a lot of statues in clay, jade, and bronze. There is something for every price range. There are items for as little as $ 10 and up to over $ 1000 but all are worth the price, because you’ll have a unique piece and story to go with it!
