So this place is actually inside Phở La Jolla restaurant. I was expecting a separate restaurant to be called The French Footlong but they merged into Phở La Jolla with the take-out option. The staff is incredibly nice, but the prices aren’t worth it. They don’t sell the 9″ sandwiches anymore, although the menu still shows the prices for it. For profit purposes, they only sell the footlong french baguettes. The price is around $ 7 for one sandwich. When I was ordering the cold cut, I specified that I just wanted pork meat loaf instead of the other different kinds of meat in the sandwich. Since I only wanted one kind of meat, I requested more of the pork meat loaf to substitute for the other meat I didn’t want. The cashier promised me that my sandwich would be packed with the meat loaf but now that I’m home unwrapping my sandwich, there are only 2 slices. WHATGIVES! so disappointed.

DONOTORDER A 12″ SANDWICH. I have ordered a 12″ sandwich three times now, and every single time I am given a 9″. This is AFTER paying for the 12″. That said, the 9″ for $ 4 is a great deal. Relatively tasty meat with crisp veggies and a little spicy kick. It’s open a good bit later than most of the other local food without being too heavy. Would give the place 4 stars if they could get their 12″ sandwich up to par.

I BM this place at the recommendation of Travis — who swears this place has the BEST Banh Mi in the area. Located inside Phở La Jolla. It appears they remodeled as the last time I was here it was smaller. We decided to split the Viet BBQ Pork 9″ and it was about $ 4.(FYI: We were told that combos are no longer avail.) Total was $ 5.10 with a small drink. The baguette was a pretty decent size and wasn’t thick as some baguettes are. The meat portion was generous in comparison to others I’ve tried, and didn’t contain fatty pieces — just thinly sliced bbq pork. The sandwich did lack the crunch(cucumber strips) factor. I would prefer more crunchy filling vs. all the cilantro they placed on top. Otherwise not a bad place to pick up some cheap BM in you’re in the area.

I like their grilled chicken or beef sandwiches. Different then your average sandwich but it tastes good, good price and open fairly late.

It looks like they moved the sandwich making operation into the main kitchen. This makes things a little confusing in that there are now a couple tables in the sandwich shop area yet the sign still says that the food is to-go only. It also seems to have slowed down the time between ordering and receiving Vietnamese deliciousness. I guess the layout change shorted out my brain to the point that I ended up ordering the wrong thing(I would make a terrible lab mouse). However, it’s a testament to the operation here that I enjoyed it as much as my usual go-to sammich.

The sandwiches still taste amazing but they made them smaller without lowering the prices. The 12 inch thins are now 9 inches and the 12 inch wides are on thinner bread with less filling. Im ok with that, just dont charge me the same price. $ 6.18 + tax is a lot for what i ate tonight. i probably wont be back.
