Super impressed by the food. We were skeptical with the mixed reviews and setup. But the food and service way exceeds expectations. Food taste so good. Service was flexible, we modified few dishes. Dal. Paneer was too good.

I had my Birthday dinner with my family at this restaurant and it made my day. Food is really yummy and infact the best Indian food that I had so far in San Diego.

I honestly liked their food and service in Point Loma location but today they lost their customer for sure from LaJolla location!!! Manager(Amit) and some punk server with ridiculous attitude charged me gratuity on my 12 days old baby without even informing me. I would not recommend anyone in my circle for this place. I don’t care about 18% untold gratuity but they need to learn customer service. Such a ridiculous attitude and service I had to deal with on my Birthday and with my 12 days old baby… Part 2: Thanks Suvant for your response. My request was only for 5 adults and 1 infant(who apparently don’t need a table). Anyways, I only asked for manager so that we can talk & when your staff talking in their own language and making your customer feel like nothing then those aren’t good business ethics.

Went in with low expectations. Was pleasantly surprised. Must try the achari paneer and the mismas tarkari. Finish with a mango lassi while enjoying the awesome view.

Bad experience at this location of Taste of Himalaya. They apparently don’t serve only appetizer and hot soup on the table with entrée for carry out. The«fine dining» restaurant as the waitress quotes is one tiny spot with no décor what so ever. One of the Nepalese special tea on the menu that looked good was«not available» and she suggested we go to Starbucks on the opposite street instead!

A lot of the places in San Diego get higher ratings because of the location — this is one of them. We came early on a Sunday evening ~6−6:30pm and had our choice of seating. We picked a table inside with a clear view of La Jolla cove and were so satisfied throughout our entire dinner because of this. I would just eat here to enjoy the view! The service was attentive and fast. The prices were a little steep for the amount of food they were serving. The food honestly is Indian food — I had the chicken tikka and because I’m Indian, I asked for a 10⁄10 spice level and it was appropriately that spicy and delicious. But those who are not looking for heavy duty spice, definitely ask for a much lower spice level. The garlic and herb naan was also VERY good, but a very small portion compared to other Indian restaurants. We also tried the momo veggie dumplings — these were just ok — in retrospect, I would have gotten something else such as pakora and samosas. The milk tea was very good and it left me wanting more.

The best, most authentic Indian food I have ever had. Definitely a hole in the wall but that’s usually where the best food is. Definitely coming back again.

This place is very simple and nice. It is located in a great spot next to Bobboi gelateria(btw it is best in the world) the people who work at this restaurant are very humble and sweet. They are from Nepal and so is the chef. They have a great lunch special for $ 9.95 that includes naan bread, a yummy lentil soup and two choices. I has the lamb and chicken masala. All was really tasty. I have it cooked at 3 spicy which is perfect.

Finally a good Indian restaurant in La Jolla. Loved the veggie soup. Veggie samosa were not great. The mixed veggie coconut curry was great. Service was quick and simple. Nice cozy atmosphere. Ocean view from the patio. Reasonable prices. I am coming back.

Very good food, service kinda slow. We went here an hour before closing time. After we got seated, it took almost 15 min for the server to take our order. I was ready to walk out, since the place was only 60% full and I could see the servers attending other customers. Once we did get served, things were better. The wine was good, as well as the veggie Momos. The vegetarian paneer chilli curry was really good albeit a little dry, but the raita fixed that. Overall a great experience with great, non greasy food.

Ok this is our second time back here. If you are looking for some awesome customer service, THISISNOT the place. But if you are looking for decent food, then this is your food. There is seriously one waiter(who I think might also be the owner) taking order for the entire Restraunt(probably around 10 – 12 tables). However the Chicken Makhani was good, the chicken briyani was made with dry rice and therefore awful. We tried the chilly paneer which was Timny as well.

I had for dinner the chicken tikka masala and it was absolutely amazing! The Service was kind and friendly and the ambiance was nice. The only thing that bothered me is that they forgot to bring water! But when we asked for it it came pretty quick. I definitely recommend this place for nice Indian food.

Chicken momos were ok, it was not very tasty. Chicken tikka masala of medium spice level came out absolutely sweet. Chicken was not fresh at all! Garlic naan was cold and not soft at all Not coming back for food other than Momos

Great NE Indian food spot! No wait on a Saturday night at 7 pm. Tried the momos, paneer tikka, chicken vindaloo, Himalayan briyani, and the garlic and coconut naan. All at different levels of spiciness. I can handle a lot of heat and I thought the food at level 7⁄10 was the tastiest. Just hot enough but not enough to ruin the experience this will be my new favorite Indian spot! We loved the coconut naan and the portions are generous… I don’t like when a place is cheap with their naan and rice portions and they are not here. Definitely have a lot of leftovers. If this location wasn’t so deep in La Jolla we would probably visit more!

This is a classic example of prime location meets mediocre food and sub par service. It saddens me to write this but honesty is my forte and I ain’t going any other way. I hope the owners, managers, whoever in charge take improvements and suggestions with an open ear. First off, I’ve eaten at Taste of Himilayas at least 4 – 5 times at their other(and better) location on Midway Drive by Sports Arena. They are the best ! Quality, hot food and the best service. Food is consistent and I’ve never had any issues. I’ve eaten there for dinner and lunch. It’s my on my top 3 for Indian Food. The La Jolla location is as follows: Location: 3⁄5 — Anything La Jolla is absolutely stunning. You have a nice ocean view from the outside patio as well as about two tables from inside. Parking however, sucks. I mean… you might spend more time looking for a free spot than eating so do yourself a favor and validate or pay for parking. Make it stress free. Food: 2⁄5 — It’s a 5⁄5 at the other location. It’s the same sorts of flavor but they don’t pay attention to detail. Rice had clumps and was dry, soup was watery, and the Chicken Vindaloo(known to be spicy) tasted like a 8⁄10 spicy instead of what I ordered… a 5. The chicken tiki masala was a 5 and was perfect in spice. We also asked for garlic cilantro naan instead of regular and they brought us regular(4 pieces). We then asked where our garlic cilantro naan was and they said it was coming. 5 – 6 min later after we got our meal, it came. Confused but ok. It also came with 4 pieces. We were also charged for this.(Wasn’t charged at other place and would been nice if there was a charge for sub, that they ask if it’s okay). Service: 2⁄5 — I called to see if we needed to make reservation and Guy over the phone said it was not busy. I asked about parking and he said there was plenty. When I arrived, I probably circled around for 20 minutes before giving up and paid for parking. I wish he would have explained parking situation further. Perhaps there was some spots he saw, but don’t make it sound like there were plenty ! They were slow and not as attentive as could have been. They are younger(seemed like college students) so didn’t seem like they cared for the job. Waited a while for the bill, and when asked for our cilantro naan when given regular naan the response was«it’s coming» un-enthused. Don’t expect people to be circus performers but be aware of your surroundings, greet your guests, and realize you have a job and be happy. Life would be so much better being happy with whatever you do in the moment, than if not. Your day go by faster than not. P.S there are two bathrooms in back. One is marked«bathroom» on left on paper and the next one next to it on right is unmarked. They are unisex. Go for it ! Good night!

Went here last night with a few others. The big winner without a doubt was their vegetarian okra dish(#20 Ram Torya /Bhindi Tarkari); we all enjoyed that very much. The second best dish was the chicken and eggplant(#35 Bhanta Ra Kukhara), ordered at a spice level 3. The flavor was good, and the chicken seemed only slightly overcooked. The Himalayan lamb dish we ordered, #37 Bhera ko Tarkari, at a spice level 7 had a good flavor, but unfortunately the lamb was significantly overcooked and was on the tough side. Likewise for their specialty biryani dish(#60 Himalayan Biryani), that we orered at a spice level 3; although the flavor was good, the meats were overcooked and were noticeably dry(the potatoes in there were cooked perfectly however). I wanted the Indica Beer on their menu, but alas they were out of it. Quite a shame, as that was the only IPA on their menu. I had to settle for a King Fisher lager. Although I do not enjoy lagers by themselves, it did pair nicely with the spicy food. The first order of naan came out with the food, and it was cold and not that good. When we ordered a second of naan half way through the meal, that came out piping hot and was delicious. Although I wouldn’t recommend this place, I wouldn’t hesitate to come back a second time if a friend wanted to go: I’d be curious to see if they have the Indica that’s on their menu next time, and I’d stick to the #20 and I’d try the lamb saag(#38) to see if the meat comes out more tender in that dish.

I had never been to La Jolla before and decided to spend a few hours there before heading to the airport. It’s like Carmel without the contrived quaintness and with more of the SoCal bling factor. Prospect Street is the main drag, and trying to find something worthwhile to eat turned out to be a bigger chore than I anticipated. You either have to pay exorbitant prices for common fare like steak or seafood or get lured into the tourist magnet spots that inevitably serve Italian pasta or Spanish tapas. I wasn’t keen on any of them, so fortunately I found this Nepalese place on my Unilocal app. It has the same name as a shuttered Nepalese place in San Francisco that I miss(…Berkeley and Sausalito still have their locations), so I thought that might be a good omen of things to come. Lucky for me it was as I found this restaurant pretty much on the money when it comes to that unique cuisine. The menu is extensive, but finding dishes suitable for a solitary diner was still a bit challenging. I was cajoled into ordering the $ 2.95 Garlic Herbal Naan, which I liked a lot since it had specks of fenugreek and oregano that lent a pleasingly aromatic flavor to the bread(photo: ). At the same time, the server generously served me a complimentary cup of creamy good dal(photo: ). I then segued into a vegetarian dish, the $ 10.95 Aloo Bhanta, a mildly spicy curry sauce with eggplant and potatoes that would have fit right into a hiking hut on the Annapurna circuit(photo: ). It went very nicely with the naan and especially with the $ 1.95 plate of Basmati Rice(photo: ). I suppose I could have stopped right there, but there is one thing I must always order at a Nepalese restaurant. Momos. It wlll be death by dumpling for me as I am addicted to such goodies in almost every cuisine. Gyoza, won ton, ravioli, pastels — I love them all. I discovered momos on a trip to Kathmandu and never got over them. Sure enough, they serve three kinds here, and I ordered the $ 10.95 Lukshya Ko Momo, eight steamed dumplings stuffed with minced lamb, onion, cilantro and spices. It came with a «Himalayan sauce» which was their own spicy dipping creation(photo: ). Delicious and what I liked about their momos is that the wrapper was much thicker than other Asian variations. Eight was more than enough for me, but I devoured them all nonetheless. FOOD — 4 stars… homestyle Nepalese if you’re from Kathmandu… and the momos rock AMBIANCE — 4 stars… nicely authentic décor without looking like a Cost Plus sale SERVICE — 4.5 stars… very friendly and attentive TOTAL — 4 stars… definitely a unique winner in La Jolla and far different from the rest of the eateries in the ‘hood
