Ohana Café cooks their chicken every three days. And if you get it the day they make it, you are in good shape. But if you order the teriyaki chicken plate toward the end of their cycle you end up with meat that has been under a warmer for half a week. They try to hide it with extra sauce, but the meat is tough, cold, tasteless, and without soul. To make matters worse, they admit this is their practice, and argue that no one complains about it. But after driving home, unpacking my dinner, and discovering that it wasn’t edible; I was not happy. So I called the manager to tell them that there was likely something wrong with their chicken. At no time did I ask for a refund, or to have them recook it. It would not have mattered — the manager argued with me, discounting me by saying he had been there for five years that he cooks his chicken every three days. — Maybe chicken can last three days under heat lamps, but it tastes awful. the manager was aggressive, and extremely rude. — Not a family place. Bad Food.

Stopped by for a latte after walking I the beach. I gave it a try despite the Unilocal reviews. I ordered two large lattes and received two half full cups of plain coffee. Their food maybe good but there coffee is not.

The Ohana Café is a nicely located little eatery but that’s pretty much where it ends. The food and the service here is honestly just meh, as in not really very good. I think conceptually it is a cool idea, somewhat similar to Swami’s in Encinitas but they somewhat miss the mark. The acai bowls are very small and have somewhat of an odd flavor. To them which made them unappealing to me. Overall, there are tons of awesome places to eat in La Jolla, unfortunately this isn’t one of them… Pros– Location Pet friendly outdoor seating Cons– Disinterested service Below average food Small acai bowls Dirty bathroom Slow Small portions

First time here after hearing a lot about it from a friend. I think the location is as good as it gets, on the corner of Pearl and La Jolla Blvd, very close walking distance to a lot of places. They only have 2 parking spaces for the café but more is available across the street by Baskin Robbins. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken plate with brown rice and macaroni salad, very authentic! The chicken had a little more fat on it than I would have liked and was a little undercooked but was overall very tasty. They give you mounds of rice so be prepared Macaroni salad was also very good Dark haired scrawny guy behind the counter was very accommodating and held our food for us as we walked across the street to Ogara Coach(Lamborghini dealership) Would definitely hit it up again!

The Aloha Burger was the juiciest burger I’ve ever had, maybe because I was really hungry, but still 10⁄10. Saw this place and knew I had to pull in. Great customer service, great military discount(which I didn’t ask, but they gave it to me). Their musubi appetizer taste great 8⁄10. You should definitely check this place out if passing by or if you live the area!

Did a food tour and it started off here. Had their Dole Whip– AWESOME! Had their coconut Jasmin rice and teriyaki chicken. Love anything coconut so I was definitely a fan. The place is a cute authentic hot spot. Parking was not the best int he area but they have a large variety of things from acai bowls to dull size menu items. I would say its a great lunch spot. There was nothing in particular that stood out, but I would would come back to try something else on their menu.

This place is great! The family is super nice and welcoming. The décor is cute and casual. Everything I have eaten there has been good so far. Their dishes are healthy, fresh and light but not short on taste. Very good prices too.

Only had a tasting of this place during a bite of San Diego tour. It was amazing! We got to sample the Hawaiian pulled pork and the coconut rice. The pork was super tender and the rice was so flavorful. They also gave us a free large portion of their pineapple Dole whip when we checked in on Unilocal. The dole whip was very refreshing and perfect on a sunny la Jolla day! I will definitely visit this place again so I can get a full meal.

Terrible! Ordered two large acaí smoothies, we were told they were one size but not told that it was a small size. 16 $ for two small smoothies. We waited 25 minutes for them and when we got them they were watered down and didnt even fully fill up the cup. Continued to give the benefit of the doubt, but they tasted as bad as they looked and tasted as bad as the service was. Very disappointed and definitely will not be coming back.

This was the meet up spot for the Bite San Diego Food Tour that I signed myself and the hubby up for. First impressions of the place, cute little spot and near the beach and in an ideal location(La Jolla). Outdoor seating was available which is always nice. We tried the Kalua Pork on Coconut Rice. The rice is cooked with a little coconut milk, and finished off with toasted shaved coconut. I thought the kalua pork tasted OK, and the sweet and savory combination worked pretty well together. If I was craving some HI grindz, I’d probably come back again to try out their menu. I’d rate the kalua pork 3 stars though/

Parents are here before so I wanted to give it a try. Looking at the menu there are many options, depending on your mood. The coconut shrimp sounded good & they also have it ask appetizer. I ordered the meal which comes with a side, salad & rice. We also ordered Hawaii Lion coffee, chicken teriyaki bowl & kahula pork tacos. They also have shaved ice bt dub. My coconut shrimp were crispy & delicious and huge in size. The sauce they put on it was so good, the young guy there gave me an extra side of it yum! The side I got was edamame and for a meal it was filling, all for $ 11. The décor in the restaurant took me back to Hawaii; with tikis hanging on the wall & beautiful art, that they sell. Not only do they sell Lion coffe but P.O.G as well.

First impressions. 2 parking spaces. Boo! Luckily we found street parking close by. The restaurant is Hawaii cool, like something you would find on the shores of Maui. The art on the wall is beautiful(some for sale). The place is clean and the staff is friendly. I ordered the mix plate with kalbi ribs and teriyaki chicken, with white rice and Mac salad. It also came with a green salad that was tasty. It was $ 10…a little more than I expected. The food was served quickly. The chicken is marinated overnight and grilled nicely. Bit the star of the plate to me was the kalbi ribs. Thick cut, grilled medium and not overly sweet on the marinade. I didn’t need to cut the rib with my knife, I just bit it off the bone. Delicious! If you’re in LA Jolla and have a craving for the islands… Ohana Café is a good place to satisfy that craving.

So I’ve been here a couple of times and the food is outstanding! I love the coconut rice with the short ribs with a Hawaiian sun drink. Can’t say no to that incredible mix. They have a huge variety of choices. Don’t get me started with the spam musubis and the shaved ice! This place is perfect after a day of surfing or just strolling along in downtown la jolla.

I couldn’t believe how fresh the food was yesterday. Everything was good. The seaweed salad is better than the sushi kind. The ribs were tender and the chicken teriyaki was incredible. Coconut rice is awesome. I can’t believe it took me so long to go here.

I can’t express how much I truly loved this place. The food was amazing and the customer service was great too! Coming from NY we dont really have Hawaiian cuisine around me. Please try their Big Kahuna for breakfast to share with coconut rice. Coconut rice was really yummy! Also try their Kalbi short ribs and chicken teriyaki… Amazing!!! Also end your meal with shaved ice!

Any restaurant that reminds me of Hawaii is awesome .I had breakfast this morning with their fabulous coconut rice that you have to try shredded coconut in the rice makes the dish so so delicious. Their employees are very very friendly and the food is great quality and inexpensive. come to La Jolla and try the Ohana restaurant you’ll be glad you did.

The kids loved the food! Had the teriyaki chicken and steak bowl with white rice. I had the kalbi ribs plate with cabbage salad. The kalbi was mediocre… probably not seasoned or marinated long enough, but really liked their side salad. My sister enjoyed her ahi poke salad and the acai bowl. The owner came around and asked if we would like to sample their dole frosty. So yummy!!! Would order that next time! Also their shaved ice, which is one size only, was Huge! Many different flavors to choose from. Also you have the option to add carnation milk on it. My friend got the Horchata shaved ice with carnation milk… almost sort of taste like halo-halo. Overall…the food was good! A simple taste of Hawaii…

I hate to give a small family run business a bad review but I have no choice. We went to Ohana with high hopes. The menu looked great. There was a trio playing music on the patio, the sun was shining, the birds were singing, what could possibly go wrong? Well we ordered our food sat on the patio and waited, then we waited, then we waited some more. Finally part of our group got their food. Then we waited. Then 2 more people got their food. I continued to wait by now my parking time has expired. No one came out to offer an explanation. I finally had to ask for my money back for the food I never got and was asked TOWAIT!!! Needless to say I will not return and the people who got their food said it was ok but the portions were tiny for the price. Sorry Ohana but Aloha.

I went here while visiting La Jolla and tried the spam musubi and La Jolla musubi. The spam musubi was good, it tasted like most places. The La Jolla musubi was a little weird. I wasn’t crazy about the huge clump of cream cheese because it overpowered the other ingredients. I also had a bite of the loco moco. It was super rich and tasty but it had too much butter. Overall, a fine place to grab a snack in a casual setting.
