My best friend has been doing my hair from the time she was in cosmetology school to her now working in a high end salon in Brea. We had a falling out in 2011 and I was looking for a new place to try out. What do I find? Katherin’s Beauty Salon which is conveniently located within walking distance of my house. It said Grand Opening in the window and was actually a different name than what had been on the sign before so I thought I’d try something I walk in, start talking to a stylist(the only one there) and she gives me a great rate, I get my hair cut/colored and I’m happy! I also make an appt. to come in 6 wks later. Fast forward 6 wks and I come in and while discussing what we’re going to do with my hair, she starts talking about cost. She’s estimating that it will cost about $ 40 more than last time!!! WTF!!! How? Why??! At this point I realize that the owner/manager(not sure) was there and she starts telling me that the rate the stylist gave me the first time was for first time customers. I get that but I would have liked to know that I was getting a «first time customer» rate when it was happening and not assumed that every time it would be the same price. Crazy me right?! Also, the rate now was that of a high end salon, which this place definitely ISNOT!!! So I decided that I would leave, because there was no way that their services were worth that much! But then they said that they’d charge me the same price as last time so I stayed… since this would be my last time. In the end the color turned out good but since I have very thick hair, I asked her to thin it out with thinning shears. She agreed, and thinned my hair alright… about two inches from my scalp!(I didn’t realize that this was the wrong way to do it till I reconciled with my best friend and she was horrified that the woman took of so much hair that close to my scalp. I think she said that your only suppose to do a couple inches up from the tips.) So yeah, these ladies don’t know what their doing! Tacky decorations inside and looks as if it belongs in 1995. Also, just saw recently that they put another«grand opening» sign up! You’ve been open for at least two years! You’re not new anymore!!! And, lately I’ve seen that they advertise it at a 20 year business when actually just the location has been there that long. Many businesses have come and gone in that time frame.
