Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store

Great selection, rude and unknowledgeable staff, both in store and calling experience, employees aren’t happy to help you if it takes more than a couple words or seconds… start getting condescending when asked to look further into an inquiry than off the top of their head.

I had went to exchange a defective item, a peg on a loom was backwards and the kit was also missing the hook and needle. My original transaction had a half off coupon, I went to exchange it today and buy additional items. The girl would not let me use the coupon on my additional items because she said I used it to repurchase the item I was exchanging. Which is unfair because the item was defective and they had taken my coupon upon my first purchase. So I had to pay full price for my additional item (s) and use a coupon for something i had already used a coupon for but the item was defective. Disappointed with the customer service at this location, I’ll go to Michael’s or Walmart next time and probably won’t go to JoAnn’s in Kent ever again. I’d rather drive to tukwila or auburn and have better customer service and a stress free shopping experience.

This place is amazing. Great selection. It is my favorite location. Love their seasonal fabric.

Ive been coming here for years because it is very close to where I live and finally decided to write a review. Very poor customer service and selection. The older ladies that work here are very rude, unfriendly, and impatient with their customers. They always have been. If you need fabric cut or need help finding something, they act as though it is such a CHORE. Sometimes I wont even ask for help and wander around the store for longer than I should trying to find something just so I can avoid the attitude of the employees. It shouldn’t be that way! Boo on you ladies, crafting is supposed to be fun! Find another job if you are so unhappy working here!
The younger employees are honestly the only ones who have ever been helpful and friendly.
Another thing is the selection. If you are looking for scrapbooking supplies, make the trip to Michaels or a larger Joanns. I was so disappointed in their scrapbooking sticker section. :(this is the case with a few other sections in the store, I just couldn’t find what I needed!
I was so unhappy with the customer service and selection today. The only good thing about this store is the location, its very close to home, but I think from now on Id rather take the extra time to go to Michaels instead.

Jo-Ann’s in Kent is the smallest and worst stocked supply store of most of the stores I’ve been to. The staff is somewhat friendly. I only shop here when I have no other options.

Im VERY upset with this place. I wanted to make christmas blankets for my family this year, so I went online and looked for fabrics only available at this location. I found what I wanted, and went to the store. When searching through all the fleece I couldnt find anything on my list other then solid colors I would use for the back of my tie blankets. When I asked a lady who was standing at the counter talking to another associate for help she seemed put out at the request as if her job isnt customer service. she was rather rude, but still began to assist me, I gave her the item numbers for the fabrics.
At first she said they were in stock and were probably in the back. She went to go and check, then after waiting for 10 minutes for her to come back she told me to take a number at the cutting counter and they could help because she had other things to do.
So I got a number and waited, mind you It takes about 30 minutes of waiting and Ive already been here for about 25 with a 4 year old, but I really wanted to get started on the blankets so I was patient. Finally it was our turn, when I told the lady what I needed she said she would find them and disappeared. About 10 minutes later she cane back empty handed and said she needed more information, so I showed again and she walked away. Literally a half hour later she came back with NOTHING said she couldn’t find any of it.
I was disappointed, and my daughter was sad too. as I was attempting to console her hurt feelings the lady interupted to ask me what langth I wanted the rest of the fabric I explained that with out the patterns I was looking for that the rest wasnt nessisary.
At this point she was very rude. And implied it was my responsibility to put the fabric back that I didnt purchase. I said I was sorry for the inconveniences I caused. Then later on I realized that this is her job to help people and the whole time she acted as though it was too much trouble.
Im NEVER going back, ill make my $ 200 dollar purchase to another place that has better customer service.

I only come here because its conveniently located near my house but if given a choice, I’d rather drive to Michaels. Staff here are rude. No greeting when customers walk in and they tend to roll their eyes when asked for assistance on a price check or taking something off the shelf. And come here if you do have a lot of time on your hands. Otherwise, you’d be waiting forever in check out.

I go here because it is the closest craft store. The only downfall is the terrible customer service. The line can go all the way back to the store and there is constantly just one or two cashiers. Prices are good and selection is decent.

I go to this store as it is the only craft supply store around for miles. But, the yarn selection is dismal, and the check out service is non existent. One checker with a line of 12 people. She was slow and never called for help. I could have driven to the federal way store and checked out there before I ever got checked out in the Kent store.

I find myself coming here more often than I thought I would since I live pretty close to this location. I just recently bought a sewing machine and have been under the constant obsession of thinking about all these things I should sew or make myself and pinning tutorials on my Pinterest boards on different sewing projects. Also, when I get bored, I love to scavenge through the remnant section for that extra discount.
If you’re looking for fabric, they’ve got enough in stock to have you window-​shopping for an hour or two (that is, if you have no particular idea what kind of fabric you’re looking for). As far as other supplies, like clay or foam or jewelry, their stock is pretty generic and I don’t think they re-​stock as often as they should. So, if it’s fabric you want, this place is just as good if you don’t want to make the trip to Tukwila, but if you’re searching for any other craft-​related supplies, you’re better off looking for your closest Michael’s.
One thing that always bothers me about this place is that they only keep two cashiers, at most, at the cash registers. And I’ve always been unlucky to be in line behind one of two people that want to get a cash refund on a like 60 things that they may or may not have a receipt for. In short, checkout sucks here.

As an art teacher, I am definitely a fan of Jo-Ann’s. They have a great selection of arts and crafts products. There are two reasons I go to Jo-Ann’s over Michael’s: 1) Prices and 2) the fabric options. I’ve found that Jo-Ann’s tends to be cheaper for the supplies I often buy for my classroom — jewelry supplies and sewing supplies. This Jo-Ann’s feels a bit limited in fabric options in comparison to the bigger store in Tukwila (which I frequent more often), but I’m still able to find what I need.
Their coupons are awesome! I have the app on my phone and I also get coupons in the mail. Plus, I get a %15 teacher discount which is sweet. I save a lot of money every time I shop there.
Whenever you have questions about crafting or locating products, employees are friendly and helpful. However, checking out is always… so…slow… Like, excruciatingly slow. Going in after work is sometimes so frustrating because there will be 1 cashier with 10 people waiting in line. Seriously, this is a problem at the Kent store and Tukwila store. Please staff more cashiers!

I came here for some knitting supplies. The only reason I came here is because it’s close to my house.
I know they have coupons (like Michael’s) every week, so I made sure to bring mine. I grabbed my needles and stitch markers and headed up to the counter. I handed over the coupons and the lady told me that only one applied.
I asked her why only one applied. She told me that the rest is on sale.
Sale? There’s no signage.
She replied, «Eh. Probably isn’t. Ah well. There’s stuff up HERE [the cashwrap] that’s wrong. Eh.»
Why?!? I worked retail for 13 years and those words were like nails on a chalkboard to anyone who has had to deal with signage/​marketing/​pricing issues.
Aside from the mess and lack of stock, her apathetic attitude drove me to the realization that I will never come here again.
I came here for some kitting supplies. Next time, I will give Amazon my money.

Generally, I always find whatever craft-​related item I need here! Rarely have I had to go elsewhere for something I needed. The times I’ve been here, I’ve noticed there’s generally only one, sometimes two people working at the checkstand which kind of backs up the line a little. Since I’ve been here a few times, I sort of know where most things are, so rarely do I interact with the staff unless I’m paying for my stuff, but they seem to be helpful. I’m not too fond of the wait time at the checkout line, but otherwise, I like coming here for craft needs (and not because my name is in it, I swear! ;))

Believe it or not I am more «domestic» than my outward appearances would lead you to think!
One thing I lost connection with was doing crafts and sewing. I used to enjoy this all though my child hood and teenage years.
I enjoyed doing hand embroidery, so I thought I would give cross stitch a chance. I found all the items I needed to start. Floss, Aida cloth, needles and patterns.
Currently I am working on 8 and 16 bit video game themed book marks for friends as gifts. I must say my Nyan Cat is looking amazing!
I also invested in a sewing machine because I had to make some quick scarves. I picked a compact «cheapie» machine and it was 20% off.
The fabric section is awesome. I found all sorts of stuff for projects. The quilting block packs are a pretty good deal.
During Halloween I was able to find crafty stuff to build a Lady Gaga disco stick that lights up.
My sewing box is now full with the needed accoutrements to tackle most any sewing task.
The ladies at the register are ever so nice and chat me up all the time. They even directed me to the Harley Davidson items in the store when they saw me in Harley Gear.
This store is clean, bright and carries plenty of crafty do-​dads to keep idle hands busy. I’m looking forward to see how my custom iPhone case turns out!

Lots of fabrics but didn’t go to buy fabrics so I can’t tell you how the selection is.
Went to check out the beading selection. They have an OK selection. I got what I needed. Not much of chains selections. It’s very limited. This is mostly best for a fabric store and yarn store since it seemed to have a bigger selection of those things.
I also went to look for plastic lacing. They only had the variety pack of colors in a package and not the ones by spool.
Overall, it’s a store with at least everything you need for your crafting ideas. Low prices.
Wish I spent more time in there, but husband was there so couldn’t stay too long to browse. I hope to return to check out the entire store. Lots of parking.

This is the closest craft store to my house. I go there when I don’t have the time or inclination to drive to MIchaels in Tukwilla. I usually wish I had gone to Michaels when I’m done.
The store is usually understaffed. I’ve had to wait at the counter more than once for someone to realize I was there waiting.

This is the only place left in the area where I can purchase sewing supplies, and their options are slowly dwindling. Their selection of fabrics has gone way down. Service at the cutting counter is VERY slow. Last time I was there, I had to wait in line nearly 45 minutes — and there was only 1 person in front of me!
They have recently done some remodeling, but basically reduced the size of the fabric sections and increased the size of the craft section. It’s extremely disappointing since fabric is not really something you can buy online.

Big and bright, and full service for craft and sewing supplies.
