The Stone Barn hosted my rehearsal dinner this past weekend and everything was perfect. We had about 30 people who chose from a well rounded prixe fixe menu. Everyone raved about the food regardless of what they ordered. We did have to gather orders ahead of time which seemed annoying but it really made the night go that much smoother. BYOB was a big plus too. Kept the bar tab under control. It was a little off the beaten path but that’s exactly what we wanted. We were in Chester County for its charm and we found it here.

Mothers Day brunch with my family. Beautiful drive out 926, gotta live living in Chester County, PA! The décor was lovely, we were sat right onetime and. The servers were very nice. There are a few rooms and we were standard the buffet room but not right in it. This was good as the buffet room was pretty loud with little darling kids running all over. The salad station was very fresh and lots of choices. There was a good selection of breakfast items and there was a omelet station. The carving stations were lamb, prime riband a very nice tasting turkey. I had read about their famous to die for crab cake but never found it and no one else did. It was BYOB so our beer and wine were a nice addition. The food was good but not exceptional and I thought they should have kept the food trays filled and fresh faster. The desserts were also nothing special but there were a few choices. Missed the crab cake but the table service was great. For $ 32 a person we will probably try somewhere else but a great Mother’s Day,!

Came to the Mill portion of the Stone Barn for a wedding, and we all had a fantastic time. Outdoors ceremony was arranged near the pond area, with outdoor chairs and a pretty trellis where the bridal party stood for the ceremony. The reception in the nearby former watermill dining room was also amazing. Though the room was a bit too dimly lit at night for my taste, the wait staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that we were all fed and cleared our plates at the right time. Food was served buffet-style, with a carver for the prime rib roast at the end of the line. Tasty and delicious, if not outstanding. Location is pretty remote, but if you’re looking for a picturesque country venue to have an event, the Stone Barn does a good job and then some.

I was really looking forward to our dinner here before heading to Longwood Gardens. It’s farm-to-table, and the grounds are lovely. The meal, interior, and service, less so. We got there earlier than our reservation, but they graciously seated us. The interior, however, was chilly, dark, and musty. Literally, there was a definite smell of mildew. The dining room was completely empty, but they sat us at an interior table right outside the kitchen. I could see a series of tables on the perimeter with wide windows looking out on the grounds and inquired about them. The waitress said that because they didn’t have many reservations that night, they had cordoned off that area and set it up for brunch the next day. The food was just okay. I had the Amish chicken with blueberry chutney, fingerling potatoes, and green beans. The chicken was good. The chutney was not a chutney but simply a few cooked blueberries in some liquid. The fingerling potatoes appeared to be boiled, not roasted; no real flavor there. And the green beans were too crunchy for my taste(but I know some like them that way) but more importantly completely without flavor. No sauce, no seasoning, nothing. Plain, tough green beans. Overall, the meal was not as good as something I’d cook at home, and it was pricey. The service was slooooow. Our waitress was nice but not really attentive. There were super long lags between courses. Overall, a real disappointment.

Just had Easter brunch. After having barely mediocre brunches at the Stone Barn several years ago, we thought we would give it a try now that it is the Foxfire restaurant. Once again, it was so disappointing from the moment we walked in. With reservations, we had to wait in a very crowded waiting area. With the crowds they accepted for reservations, who was the idiot that also decided the hostess would also cash people out after their meal? Why didn’t the waitress do this? They took reservations through 4:00 and our reservations were for 1:00. First, food was out at many of the stations, and what was there was cold. Can you imagine how cold eggs benedict was? Fruit, cheese, shrimp, bacon all gone, and the ice tea came out like water, when I questioned the waitress, she said the ice tea machine was broken! So you serve this to customers anyway? Much of the food tasted like it was from an Old Country Buffet line, not the gourmet food as advertised. The desserts tasted like they came right out of an Entenmenns box. If this is an idication of the food at Foxfire, we will not be making reservations. Never will we go back to Stone Barn, things did not change, and at $ 32.95 per meal, we could have done better at Dutchway for 8.99 and actually the buffet is alot better!

First time and glad we went. This chef is doing a great job with local farm to table dishes. Kennett Square mushroom soup was served in a large squash and was thick and great flavor. The Romaine salad was crisp with a nice peppercron parmasean dessing. The twin lamb chops were the best around. The same dish at a Mortons would have been twice the price and not sure if they would have been as tasty. Soft Shells had just come into season and the two of them were good, but just a little salty for my taste. A sorbet by the chef was outstanding. Combination of Rosemary and Blueberry that I could eat every day of the week. Little Red Velvet Cake for dessert and you have a wonderful meal BYO, plenty of free parking. Room could use a little more atmosphere, but otherwise a very nice evening.

Brought my parents here when they came from out of state to visit me in college. Was disappointed to find it was just a souped up, overpriced Old Country Buffet.(Even though they CALL themselves a BYOB) Well, actually, I’d give a higher rating to OCB, because at least THERE, the price is fair for what you’re getting. With Stone Barn, you definitely DON’T get what you pay for.

In search of a suitable venue for a future christening brunch we visited the Stone Barn today. Seemingly brisk with business we were seated w/o a reservation(the manager referred to us as the ‘last walk-in’ for the day — I guess they place a limit on this — not sure why — there were numerous empty tables). As we made our way to the buffet we were continually disappointed at: lack of clean plates, inconsistent food, several empty chafing dishes and the fact there seemed to be only one ‘out front’ attendant with the odd BOH person occasionally bringing refill out. The chef popped his head out a few times, didn’t say a word, then retreated back to the kitchen. I’d expect this from a Old Country Buffet or a greasy spoon dump, but not at the prices we were paying. The wait staff was very attentive, great on clearing and refills, but we’d be hard pressed to return and drop 100 bucks(food + tip) on such a bad experience. We’ll find somewhere else to do the christening brunch.
