The biggest, best breakfast burrito around. Everything is great, with large portions. The owners and employees are the friendliest, best around. Their beer prices are very reasonable also.

This place is a fantastic hole in the wall! They have some of the freshest burgers in Kansas City and nothing on their menu sucks. Be prepared for large proportions and hearty food! The gentlemen who run it are very friendly and have went out of their way to make me off the menu items(when I had my wisdom teeth out) to ensure there was something I could eat here. Oh and who could forget the tater tots?! A burger or the daily special is the way to go– these guys know what they are doing and it tastes damn good. The store itself is small and bodega like. It’s located in the Westbottoms, which is much safer than everyone makes it out to be. Their hours are awesome AND you can pick up a 6-pack while you’re here.

For what it is, it is mighty fine. This is NOT health food. This is a greasy spoon, wrapped in a diner, wrapped in a liquor store. The food is typically very good, in good quantities, and is reasonably priced. The service is great, and they cater to both blue collar and white collar customers. It is small, so get there early or call in a carry-out order. My favorites so far are the Cuban missile and the tenderloin sandwich. I get ‘em with extra crispy tots. The salads are great also, but they come with a LOT of meat, so if you want a semi-healthy lunch from here, put half the meat in a zip-loc and have it on a sandwich for dinner.

I got the Mexican hot dog and it was great I had to come back for another. The staff was very friendly as well.

Yes, yes, yessssss! This is best, greasiest, tastiest place I’ve been to in awhile! It’s a small, easy to miss, liquor store in the West Bottoms. I came here with my boyfriend for lunch. There are a few tables where you can sit and eat. You go up to the counter and order, the same way you’d pick up your smokes or more expensive alcohol. I ordered the cowboy burger and fries. The burger has pepper jack cheese, onion rings, bacon, and BBQ sauce on it. My bf ordered the KC Strip Cheesesteak with tots. The food came out pretty promptly. Hot and fresh! It really hit the spot! The French fries where delicious, as were the tots. Burger was great! And my boyfriend enjoyed his cheesesteak. This place has a great vibe. It was fun to eat in a convenience store! We were able to get drinks right out of the coolers and sit back and enjoy the Chiefs game. It wasn’t crowded at all when we went, a couple of truckers came in after us. I could see us coming back, for sure! It was definitely our speed… and in anyone’s price range! $ 20 for both meals including drinks. Can’t beat that! Lunch Box, you have our approval. Still stuffed!

This was a decent place but I’m not going to madly rave about it like the others here. What impressed me was how different the inside looked compared to the outside. The woman working the register(who I understand is one of the owners) was very nice and I’d go back just because of that. The downside-the fries were crispy but they tasted like the oil in the fryer needed to be changed-there was an burned onion over taste. Also, there aren’t tons of food places i this part of the west bottoms. I’ll probably give it another go and see if I just went on an off day.

The location is a little seedy but get over that and you’ll find yourself in a small liquor store that serves some good olé all-American food… think pork tenderloins, cheesesteaks, etc. Reasonable prices, sides big enough for at least three people and the nicest folks behind the counter. I’ll be back for sure!

This is a small liquor /convenience store with a grill in the back. Seats about 14. Amazing food and friendly service. The Big West Bottoms Trucker is one of the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had.

HA! Who knew I’d be impressed with a liquor store/deli? I surely did not. I actually almost missed the store. I had the cheesesteak from here. I liked it. It was pretty straightforward, no real frills. I also had the onion rings. They mean it when they say they are thinly sliced. That’s okay though. It kind of reminded me of onion straws so I liked it. I’ve also had the cowboy burger. Man, it’s just what I like in a burger, lots of greasy goodness. I really had a thing for it. The bacon was nice and crispy. No wimpy, soft bacon for me. I appreciated that. I had the fries with the burger. I didn’t realize how much I liked homestyle fries. I’m used to getting the crispy ones from restaurants but I really liked these. They reminded me of ones from home. The line is quick if you call it in. They have tables for you to sit there and eat. The staff was nice. Overall, it’s a cute little spot and I enjoyed it.

Randomly chosen by the wheel of lunch( ), we decided to hit up The Lunch Box one afternoon. First off, I would have never stumbled on the place randomly if we hadn’t had direction to drive. We get down into the bottoms, take a couple of rights, and bam, there we were. It’s a liquor store, with a kitchen, essentially. We’ve been twice, so I’m really remiss about posting this. The first time, I had half of the cowboy burger, which was delicious, and half of a cheese steak. The cheese steak was good, but I prefer mine a bit more drowning in cheese. The second time I engaged with the Trainwreck. A full order of biscuits and gravy, topped with cubed hashbrowns, topped with over easy eggs, topped with sausage patties. With your choice of hot sauce or salsa on top. We forgot to specify when we ordered, so the guy that picked it up just got both. Holy-moley. I performed what is probably my greatest feat of will in a long time and only ate half in a go, finishing it off today for breakfast. The hot sauce is a very Louisiana/tobasco style hotsauce. The salsa was really good too. Reheated doesn’t quite compare, but eating it all in one go, or maybe tag in a friend or something would be the avenue. To top that off, the staff was friendly, and even gave us a crate to carry the drinks back to work in. Sure, it was a beer box, and we got some askance looks… but if we set a precedent that it’s not beer we bring back in those… then we can sneak beer back into… Heh, just kidding.

Best and largest tenderloin I’ve ever seen. Minimal seating, but that wasn’t an issue. Plenty of customers pick up and go. Friendly service.

This location still looks like the liquor store it was and still is when west bottoms was full of industries and I worked at Williams Meat Packing during college summers. My wife and I heard from some guys at a battery shop nearby that it was good portions for reasonable prices. Its a pleasant family operation run by Jen and her husband. Burger and fries were fresh and lots fries. I will be going back here plenty for lunch and breakfast.

Pretty excited that we found this place. You would not stop here for lunch just by looking at the outside. In fact, my wife wanted to keep driving. The inside is clean, the food prepared from scratch, the burgers are ground on site, and the owners are super friendly. My daughter loved the Philly Cheese Steak, my son and I had the cowboy burger. Fed a family of 6 for less than $ 40!

After antiquing at the West Bottoms, I Unilocaled for nearby places to eat and we chose The Lunch Box and it was a great choice! The outside of the building does NOT reflect the inside. Inside is neat and clean with a few tables inside for eat in customers. The meatball sub was as close to perfect as I’ve had anywhere. The bun was lightly grilled and tasted like garlic bread. The meatballs were very moist, delicious, and they sat on a large piece of provolone cheese then given just the right amount of sauce to complete this wonderful sub. French fries done right are one of my favorite foods. This place should be on KC’s best French Fry places. Fresh cut, crispy and salted just right. O’Dano ordered the tenderloin and it was huge, hand breaded, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. He thought it was great, and he will have leftovers tomorrow. We will definitely return for the fresh ground hamburgers. I have high hopes.

Perfect whole in the wall eatery. Plus a liqueur store. Made to order and made with passion. The most friendly, attentive service you can ask for. Nothing is fancy. The sandwich’s are outstanding with fresh cut fries. Local. One of the best, hidden and delicious. Run. A huge yes.

Yep. That’s good stuff. This place is tiny, and modest, and part convenience store. It’s also staffed by friendly people who know the regulars by name and ask after their families. Most every thing is made from scratch, including the burgers(beef ground daily) and the fries(fresh cut). Today I had the meatball sub. For a measly $ 5 you get 4 freshly made golf-ball sized meatballs tucked into 2 slices of provolone, covered in red sauce and topped with romano cheese, served on a hot hoagie roll. The roll was warm and soft, the sauce flavorful. The meatballs were well seasoned and tender. Most importantly, it was perfectly yummy. I split a side of tots with a friend(way too much for one), they were also awesome. You’ve got to love a place that serves the tots extra crispy automatically. Try dipping them in the homemade ranch. We got there at 11:30, by 11:45 there were several people in line to order. By the time we had finished and were leaving, there was barely enough room to stand. The lesson, don’t show up at noon if you want to sit! I can’t wait to go back, might just have to get one of those burgers or maybe that massive tenderloin.
