The food here is very good, but the service is lacking. I came here for their Saturday brunch and ordered bottomless mimosas. Keyword being«bottomless». Our server never checked on us. We ended up getting one refill before finally having to ask for service. On a side note, both my friend and I were reduced to our beds with stomach pain three hours later. I don’t think this was a coincidence here since neither of us had eaten since…

Total enjoyed everything about it and I’m picky Went on the Friday night before Valentine’s day at 4:30 with my wife. Service I made online reservations so we had a table waiting. Server was very friendly and helpful. She new everything about each item on the menu. All the servers were very professional almost looked like each one was the owner. Food So many fun choices made it hard to pick. Since appetizers are discounted for early birds we ordered a variety and shared. Brie & Mushroom«Cobbler» — Very rich, I’m not a big mushroom fan but really enjoyed it, wife loved it. «Skewers» — very traditional but done perfectly. Nice mix of steak and vegetables Shrimp Provencale — like nothing I’ve ever had, so many wonderful flavors, beautiful Brussels Sprouts — very unique, so rich we couldn’t finish them all I don’t’ remember the salad my wife ordered but she went on and on about it. We rarely order dessert because we’re alway full but when we saw the crème brûlée bread pudding we had to try it. Wow, just as I had imagined. Atmosphere One of a kind, a little snappy casual and fun. Music was very tasteful and not too loud. Glad I went early, as we were finishing up the inebriated louder crowd started to filter in. Price Total bill was less than $ 50. 5 awesome dishes and dessert. We took some home with us. Can’t wait to go back, wish it was closer to LS.

My stepbrother and his girlfriend gave us a gift card for Avenues Bistro as a «thank you» for letting them stay with us. Way too generous, but I will never pass up the opportunity to try a new restaurant! We made a reservation for a Saturday night, and I am glad we did, as they were on a pretty lengthy wait by the time we arrived. The hostess brought us to a nice, quiet table in the back, and we quickly began feasting our eyes on the menu options. After some solid deliberation, we ended up sharing the Roasted Beet Salad, «Arepas» Venezuelan Flatbread, Pommes Frites(with the house aioli, pesto aioli and — our favorite — Thai chili aioli) and the Yellow Tail«Black and Blue.» All of the food was delicious, and it was PLENTY of food. I think we probably went a little overboard, but who can complain about bringing some extras home? Our server was great, ambiance was nice for a date night — although they oddly still had Christmas décor out… In February — and we left sufficiently full with leftovers in tow.

Love this place. Made my reservation online on Open Tables, we were seated on time, service was amazing, and all of our dishes were great. I’ve now been there 4 times and they are consistently good.

I wish I could give this place 3 ½ stars — mainly because the food was good but the bar was unfriendly. We waited a long time for a glass of wine though there were many empty seats. The hostess made up for it with tons of charm, and our server was very good. Some reviews have described this place as romantic. I don’t agree. The lights are too bright and the volume too high for it to be the perfect date place. So we would return for brunch, not dinner — and definitely not for a wedding anniversary date. :-/

Tried this place with a few friends. We shared the mac and cheese, Thai chili chicken, and the Venezuelan flatbread. Flatbread was very different from the norm, but pretty tasty. Try the Thai chili chicken, its one of their top sellers. The Mac and cheese was pretty standard. I got the Snapper for my entrée and it was the best out of all the entrees we got. Not a fan of the Lobster Ravioli but the Osso Buco gives you a light alternative to the normal heavy pork options. The Cracked Strawberry Lemonade was too sweet for my taste although they did try to use fresh fruits and flavors so I have to give credit where due. A very standard experience with a couple out of the ordinary and tasty options.

The brunch was the best value around, and very delicious. I ordered the surf & turf(one steak, one crab cake) Benedict off the Sunday brunch menu. Loved it. Purchasing a brunch menu item comes with access to their buffet spread which makes it an incredible value. I went in on their pasta salads and desserts. They also have scrambled eggs, sausage, assorted pastries, meats, and cheeses. The all-you-can-drink Mimosas/Bloody Marys/Vodka OJs was unbelievable. I mean, to be honest, the bloody mary was a 6⁄10 on the quality scale. But bottomless = 10⁄10 on the quantity scale so you choose what you value more. It was awesome to be able to mix and match, and our waitress did an excellent job keeping up with the demand. The bottom line is, you can get an excellent meal and all you can drink breakfast cocktails for $ 23(pre tax and tip). I will make this a monthly tradition.

We had brunch at Avenues a few weeks ago. I was confused about the seating situation, because when we walked inside, the front half of the restaurant looks like a cool, downtown place… but we were walked to the back half of the restaurant which looks like the living room from an old episode of The Golden Girls. Uhhhh… why the difference? Why the total lack of consistency in décor? It literally felt like I sat and ate in an entirely different restaurant than I walked into. For the brunch menu, I had the carrot cake pancakes which were just ok, but served in a very generous portion. My boyfriend had the eggs benedict which he said was pretty good. The buffet that they add on to the brunch menu is a nice addition and has a good assortment for no extra cost. My boyfriend and I both ordered drinks, and I will say that the bloody mary I got was terrible, so I would skip having a drink with brunch if we come back.

Great brunch buffet with the buffet + an entrée for $ 15. I love the yogurt with fruit, pastries, pasta salad, eggs and breakfast meats on the buffet. Then you get to order an entrée from the menu. In our group, we got the avocado skillet, steak frites, omelette, and surf the and turf bc Benedict. The avocado skillet was the best, but all were good. Also great is the bottomless mimosas/screwdriver/bloody Mary(mix n’ match) for $ 8!

One of my favorites. Happened upon this restaurant after my kids played soccer and we have returned twice. We love the smaller portions and menu choices. Everything has been prepared and presented wonderfully.

Great food, the Osso buca on Saturday is amazing. Bartenders are great and offer generous pours of french and American wine. Sit on the Cove side if you are under 60… you’ll see what I mean when you get there.

Always a five star. One of the best local restaurants in Kansas City and entrée prices are comparable if not cheaper to chain casual dining options(apple bees and chilis). Read on for details of this visit. Service is always good. Very classy staff without being to stuffy. When I walked in the hostess was not at her station and after waiting one minute the bartender came out from behind the bar and seated me. I love to see staff that are more worried about the customer than if position is or isn’t responsible for certain tasks. I had a simple meal. The drink I selected this time was the Boardwalk bourbon, strong citrus flavors with a bourbon finish. For my entrée I had the chicken piccata with fruit side. The chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy on the out side tender inside. The sauce had artichoke hearts, sun dried tomato, and capers. Very delicious. The fruit side had strawberries, pineapple, and oranges. The oranges were canned otherwise it was what you would expect from a fruit side.

Dropped in for the reverse happy hour(8:30-close) one night, and it was pretty good. I may be a little biased because I frequented Avenues before they renovated and changed the happy hour. I would say the previous happy hour was better than the new happy hour specials, expecially in the drink department. They used to have dollar martinis — not anymore. The new drink special is $ 2 off of any drink. Just a so-so offering by comparison. We ordered three of the tasting plates and they were all very delicious. We also ordered two drinks which were also pretty tasty. Our service was fast and the server was excellent. Also, you can call ahead and make reservations, sit anywhere in the restaurant, and still get the happy hour specials!

First, a shout out to Avenues’ entire staff who handled the waves of World Series Rally revelers with aplomb. Including the hostess who tactfully managed the entitled little diva who pushed past us to get her name in while the hostess was still helping us. And maybe the rally had something to do with a missing star; the last time I was here(a long time ago) I’d have given it four, but they just weren’t as sharp this time around. The pomme frites weren’t very hot, and the shrimp in my Provencal were a little overcooked. The sausage was tasty, and there was plenty of buttered baguette for soaking up the tomatoey broth. At the $ 10 happy hour price it was reasonable, but I’d have been disappointed at the $ 14 regular price. On to the good things, which there were. I got a very enjoyable glass of red Burgundy for $ 5, and the brussels sprouts were delicious. Our party split an order of bread pudding, again very good, and a piece of red velvet cake. I’ve never understood the furor over red velvet cake, it just seems like weird-colored not-very-chocolate cake. But Avenues’ is delicious. Our server was nice, and the kitchen managed to get food for eight people out pretty much together. The décor is lighter and more up to date since the remodel. The cocktail list is pretty impressive, including an entry I should include in my Tour du Sazerac.

Great for Sunday Brunch, back for Lunch on Friday and am trying the Rotisserie Chicken and Caesar Salad. The salad and chicken were to die for! Be sure and ask to be seated in Megan, «Megatron’s» area, she is fantastic at her job, we loved her humor

Bummed! I was excited to try the brunch as several of my friends love it. Let me disagree with several Unilocalers regarding the service… our server Megan was awesome and the ONLY reason Avenues doesn’t get a ONE star from me! She was super nice, super helpful and truly great! Our bottomless drinks were okay… nothing exciting and nothing I would go back for(which is odd for me when it comes to drinks). We had the brunch buffet, myself and two friends(one friend had an 8month old baby). We all got the lobster ravioli – the sauce was amazing and the it has several shrimp in addition. We took that to go and focused on the buffet(which in hind site was questionable). The scrambled eggs were good, the cinnamon rolls were yummy, the salads were not great – pasta salad had under cooked pasta, the cucumber salad was really runny but again the cinnamon roll was great. Now here is where it went further downhill… after buying the $ 15.00 buffet AND the $ 12.00 bottomless drinks(X’s 3)…after we had eaten we were visiting while having some drinks. A staff person came to our table and said he had a large party reservation and our table was one of the only tables to hold a large party??? Please keep in mind WE had a reservation also… He asked if he could move us to another table or if we could move to the bar(keep in mind we had a sleeping baby!!!) Not only that while he is saying this the«incoming» party was standing RIGHT behind us waiting for us to move. RUDE! Guess what – I don’t care that you have a table of 6 older rich folks… our money is just as good… but you won’t need to worry about us «bothering you» with our patronage in the future!

Greatly impressed! Stopped in for a bite to eat, and we were pleasantly surprised! Prompt, friendly service, great atmosphere and fantastic food! I couldn’t be happier! Across our table, we had Fish Tacos($ 11), Lobster Ravioli($ 13), House Salad and King Crab Bisque($ 8), and a kids chicken($ 6) and fries. All were delightful!

Avenues is a great place for breakfast and brunch, especially on Saturday if you are looking for very affordable and reasonable sized portions or on Sunday if you are looking for very affordable and a salad/pastry/appetizer bar to go with your meal. Both days they do unlimited mimosa/blood mary/screwdriver for $ 8 or high-end brunch cocktails for $ 12(they are delicious). I have noticed that the clientele can vary, from diverse to more elderly, but age brings wisdom, since this is a great place to have breakfast and brunch. I have sampled the skillets, the quiche, the omelet, and the burger – all very tasty and great size for the price(and time of day). I also enjoy the Sunday brunch bar that goes with each entrée – fresh fruit, delicious pastries, etc.(you can pretty much make a meal of it and then take your entrée home) – or take the option to only eat the bar and not purchase the entrée at all. Also I have not eaten dinner here is a long time, I have hear that it is delicious and I will be booking my table through Tastable soon – very good discounts for meals in the evening.

Disclaimer: I came for their Brunch Labor Day Special, so I am rating only based on the quality of their brunch food items. Food quality barely tinkers on the edge of A-OK and cheap. I ordered their omelet with spinach, asparagus, and mushrooms as my main course. I wonder what they used as the batter because my stomach is Not taking it well at all. The only food item they did not cheapen was the cantaloupe, watermelon and pineapple fruit mix. The rest of the ingredients tasted a bit stale, a bit too salty, a bit too. i-came-from-a-box-or-can-and-if-i-am-hot-i-was-prepared-in-the-handy-dandy-microwave. That’s all I have to say about the food. Go for it, get a taste and delve into your own description of what you think of your food. Service: Very Attentive and Mannerly. They can get busy, busy, busy so help them out(and yourself) by booking a reservation(online or call) in advance. Would I go there again? Eh… no.
