I took my boyfriend here for his birthday a while back and we got salmon and sat outside. It’s was yummy. It didn’t feel like French food, but that’s probably my fault. Should have gotten duck or something. The coffee bar is delish though.

After living in Kansas City for 10 ½ years, We finally decided to have brunch here. We have heard raving reviews time after time so our expectations were very high. Reservations are very convenient… It is always nice to have that option… Especially on a Saturday morning! Unfortunately, we were running a bit late; to our surprise, they were very very accommodating and kindly rescheduled our reservation to a slightly later time. Upon our arrival, it was hard to resist the perfect spring day and weather. They were very quick to adjust our reservation and put us at a lovely table on the patio. The view was fabulous, the weather was perfect, the temperature was perfect and the atmosphere was phenomenal! Our waitress left much to be desired. Arriving to our table a while after being seated, she silently placed waters in front of each member of our party. After what seemed to be an eternity of silence, I finally greeted her… She never introduced herself or exercised any of the usual formalities /greetings. I’ve never been shy to share that I have a limited diet. Pork and beef are not on my «can haves» list. We inquired about substituting the ham for smoked salmon on the croque Monsieur. A blunt«no» was quickly answered. It was then explained that their menu items are«premade» so therefore substitutions are not allowed. «Premade» was not the most thrilling way to describe their food preparation methods… telling patrons that you pre make all your dishes hours before doesn’t wet an appetite. She did make a couple recommendations of other menu items, however, they too had pork in them. We asked for a couple moments to review the menu and she quickly excused herself. Time was not of the essence when considering coffee, refills or the wait staff. As we did appreciate the quiet table… We quickly learned we were left to fend for ourselves. She returned approximately 10 minutes later to take our order. Ordering was difficult… most of our party had to order a la carte to match our dietary needs and wants in competition with the very limited menu… Slightly frustrating as she was less than accommodating and ordering this way added unnecessary and undo expense to the tab. Our food arrived approximately 20 minutes later. One party member had ordered the croque Monsieur with an over medium egg on top. I had ordered my eggs over easy. The single over medium egg came less than cooked easy… The whites were not even fully cooked through. That plate was sent back to the kitchen only to return 5 to 8 minutes later as the same dish, now cold, with a rather burned egg. I asked for replacement eggs, as my over medium eggs came over hard… the replacement eggs arrived approx 5 – 7 minutes later even more cooked through and burned on the bottom… accompanied by my now cold meal. At this point of the meal we decided to give up and just get out. No apology from the waitress, no apology from a manager… Not even an acknowledgment meant of any issue we had addressed. To be fair… The rest of the meal was spectacular! The bread used for toast was delightful, soft on the inside and perfectly toasted on the outside. Flavorful and obviously organic/local. Their breakfast potatoes were absolutely phenomenal… However, each plate only came with four or five small potatoes. The serving sizes were acutely not proportionate to the representation of the menu. Each meal was served with an unannounced salad, or rather,!dry Springleaf lettuce, which absorbed the majority of the plate… very obviously a distraction from the lack of actual ordered food that you received. The butter for toast was served extremely cold and difficult to spread on warm bread. Cream cheese was served the same way. The coffee was outstanding. However, getting a refill was next to impossible… interesting as two tables were later sat right near ours and they never seemed to have any issue getting attention from the waitress. We resolved to picking around the items on our plate that were not cooked properly and ate what we could. This is one of the more difficult reviews to write… The overall experience was less than acceptable, however, the ambience and good parts of the food were outstanding! It was truly a 50 – 50 kind of experience. It was noted that our tab was discounted /omitted /forgotten to include coffee… maybe this was the acknowledgement for the multiple issues? What we recommend this place? Actually, yes! Would we bring friends or family with limited diet? Probably not. Were we impressed with the ambience and overly accommodating host staff? Absolutely! How was the food? Total crapshoot… but the good food was FABULOUS! If you can request a waitress??? Avoid Fallon. We will be back at some point — hope we have a better report next time!

This was an amazing lunch. We started with escargot and it did not disappoint. I soaked up every bit of the decedent juices that it was served in with the bread. Then on to a wonderful salad with big grilled shrimp, avocado, grapefruit and other yummy stuff. I must say my first meal in KC was delish!

Wonderful spot for lunch on the patio! The patio has plenty of space and has great shade from umbrellas and trees. The menu has lots of great options, and the desserts were so good.

Great food. Great service. Love the neighborhood and the ambiance. The steaks are all great and so are the soups. Fresh, delicious and cool atmosphere.

The food was outstanding but I was mostly impressed with the service. Not only was the chef extremely accommodating to the three vegetarians I was with, but our server was the best. She was friendly, engaging, knowledgable, funny, and adorable. I hate it when servers try to hard but this server was so naturally at ease with herself and her job that she made our experience so much better.

Used to be good but not anymore. Not sure if they are hurting financially or not but it just seems like they have started cutting corners. Food quality has drastically dropped off over the past year. Avenue Bistro, Michael Forbes, or Julian are just down the street and way better.

I came here for lunch for KCRW… or, at least I THOUGHT I came here for KCRW. However, even though Aixois was on the restaurant week list and even though restaurant week is still going on, there was nary a restaurant week menu in site. Just a normal menu with normal prices. I felt conned. The only reason I came here was to try this place out, and I was hoping to do that at a lower cost. I also feel it’s terrible that they are getting customers through the door under false advertising in this manner. We could tell numerous other patrons were confused by this as well and heard many people speaking about it to their waiters and to each other. I heard a waiter saying that restaurant week was over(it wasn’t), and another say that she didn’t think they were participating in restaurant week(they certainly were signed up for it, so that’s also a lie). The service was about average here, maybe slightly below average. The food was definitely below average. Couple those facts with the restaurant week menu issue, and we can definitely say that we will never be back to Aixois.

I love the ambiance of this restaurant. Its part of a super cute upscale strip of businesses in Brookside. I came here for lunch during restaurant week and it was very busy. I didn’t have a reservation but was seated immediately. It took the waitress a while to come to my table, But it was ok because I was waiting for my boyfriend. I love how cute this place is, but that’s really it. The service wasn’t very good and seem unorganized. We had several waiters bring us food that belonged to other customers. This happened through out our meal. The food was ok. I got the crêpe of the day, which consisted of duck. The duck was very good and tender. It was topped with an egg. It came with a soup or salad. I got French onion for an up charge. It was ok, maybe even a little bland. I got the floating island for dessert. It was tasty, but the consistency was different from other floating islands I’ve had. It’s usually poached meringue on Crème anglaise. The meringue seemed like it might have been baked. My boyfriend had their croque monsieur(spelled way wrong). He said the sandwich was overly greasy and didn’t enjoy it much. He got the soup of the day, we’re not sure what it was. Looked creamy and typical of cafeteria soup. He didn’t eat very much of it because he didn’t like it. Our bill was around $ 45. It was $ 15 for each of our meals. I had tea and up charges for a fried egg and French onion soup.

Stopped for a «nosh» of something on Saturday afternoon. Fantastic cheese & fruit tray, the house white wine was $ 3.00 a glass, perfectly chilled BTW! Emily was our server, so sweet and just the right amount of assistance. Ask for her. Wonderful! Vive la France!

Had Sunday brunch here in September 2105. Service was slow and inattentive. All of those other reviews about the service was right on. The food was good. Good not great. Fairly expensive. I probably won’t be back. Just not worth it. But nice patio to have a glass of wine.

I was excited to eat here for the first time because I’ve heard good things about this place. However, I was sorely disappointed. When my boyfriend and I arrived on a Friday evening, we were seated quickly, but it took over 10 minutes for our waitress to greet us and give us some water. And I use the word«greet» lightly. She never told us her name, never asked if we had dined there before(it was both of our first time) and she never went over the menu or explained the specials, and she never asked if we had any questions. After we were given water, it took another 10 minutes for her to come back and unenthusiastically ask us what we wanted to eat. She seemed put out that we were seated in her section. I ordered the $ 42 Maine lobster and my boyfriend ordered the 8oz fillet, and we added a side of pomme frites to have with our meal. When our entrees came out, the pomme frites were forgotten. It took another 10 minutes for them to bring those. When they did, they were steaming hot. Clearly our waitress had forgotten to put them in with our order. Anyway, the food was less than appetizing. The lobster was tough and chewy and just not good. Definitely not worth $ 42. The fillet was just okay. Nothing special. The pomme frites tasted like they were frozen, not fresh, and like they were fried in old oil. They were not good. All in all, this experience was mediocre at best. If you’re someone who enjoys good food and a good dining experience, stay away from this place. You can tell that this place has relied on steady, Brookside local clientele for far too many years. They’re not interested in keeping up with all of the other amazing Kansas City restaurants. I will not be dining here ever again.

Love the food, hate the service. I live 5 minutes away from Aixois, it is a convenient and cute spot to grab a glass of wine on a Saturday afternoon or dinner on a weeknight. The food has always been great — simple yet delicious. Last night I had Duck leg confit salad and it was wonderful. Our server, however, was rude and inattentive. Any time we asked for anything(and I mean basic stuff, like a water refill), we got an eye roll. The dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives came with one olive. This was explained with the bartender being too busy to stuff more olives. «We have like two left, sorry about that». Um, ok.

Best place in town to get authentic French food :-) Amazing frog’s legs and escargot, both very hard to find in the area. This place has a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Worth the visit! The prices are a bit higher than the $$ shown here, but the food is excellent and well worth the price.

This restaurant gets five stars from me – a rarity. For me, it needs to excel in terms of menu, service, and ambience. Aixois has it all. I particularly love the lunch menu and the seating outside. Nothing more needs to be said! Aixois is fabulous.

Good lord this place sucks. The whole entire staff is beyond rude and extremely inattentive. Nothing really wowed me for the prices so I got a burger. Still was a $ 16 burger. Asked for well done and the thing came out mooing. My boyfriend said his entrée was just ok. Portions were tiny for $ 36. Fries were terrible. You’d think since they are served with every entrée they’d be pretty damn good but they were soggy. Wanted to leave asap so had half my burger and ¾ of my fries boxed… just got home to eat them and my fries aren’t even in the box. Wow. If you’re going to box it for me, do the job correctly. Will not be returning to this snobby, overpriced establishment.

Aixois is nestled around from the Crestwood shops and with a patio practically on the Trolley Track — that alone might be reason to visit Aixois. However, the atmosphere and the food have me as a fan of Aixois. I’ve been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and personally never had anything I didn’t really enjoy. Some of the dishes my fiancée has gotten were subpar in the past, so I get that there might be an inconsistency from time to time here. The breakfast menu is relatively limited, which is true to form from my experiences in France. You’ll find the Croque Monsieur, quiche and a collection of omelettes. It’s fair to say that their patio is one of my favorite in town. It’s so relaxing and the music just adds enough atmosphere without drowning out your conversations. Like any good patio in KC, stake your spot on a beautiful day because it will get packed. I love the whole vibe here, and the inside has a cozy feeling but is certainly not stuffy — it’s part coffee shop, part bistro, part restaurant. I’ve had some really memorable dinners here, including wild boar(in the fall) which was fantastic. It sounds like the experiences range pretty wildly here, but I recommend it based on it being a locally owned family spot, a great location, and overall really good food.

It’s unfortunate that locally owned restaurants have to stoop to charging $ 6 to spilt a plate, but I kind of understand they need to do it to survive. Now on to the food, me and my son spilt the burger. It was just ok. The salad that came with it was way better, one of the best balsamic vinaigrette s I’ve ever had. Will definitely be back for the salad again.

If I was writing just on the food, 5 stars, but the service was terribly lacking. The only menu available was the«La Petit Dejuener» menu. The website shows other options for lunch, but I did not see that menu anywhere.(Looking at the website after my visit or I would have asked.) Not that I was unahppy with my choice, but if I had more options, I may have made a different selection. With the menu option that we had, the choices were very limited and very brunch centered. When I entered no one acknowledged me. I was waiting for someone and stood off to the side, unsure if I was to seat myself wait to be seated, order and wait, or how the set up worked. After a few minutes the lady at the coffee bar asked if she could help me. I told her I was waiting and while I did I continued to try and figure out the set up. A lady had ordered a drink at the coffee bar and went outside to sit. Finally I asked if we ordered there and was told yes and then they would bring the food. This has to be a nightmare when busy as you do not get an order number or they don’t take names to call out. I also looked for a menu to start looking over and found the one option sitting on the coffee bar. When we did order, there was little said from the worker, just not friendly, smiley, or seeming to want to be there or help people. I ordered the Croque Monsiuer and was quite happy with it. This ranks as one of the best sandwiches in the city, and maybe the best ham and cheese I have ever had. The ham is full of flavor and perfectly accompanied by the salty sweet Gruyère and topped with a Bechamel sauce that was placed under a broiler for a minute to slightly bubble and brown. It came with a simple lettuce salad with a vinaigrette dressing that cut all of the richness of the sandwich perfectly. My only complaint was that I didn’t order it topped with an egg. I enjoyed an iced chai tea with my meal. It was a little light on tea and heavy on milk, but overall was good. I also asked for water with my meal. The lady working the coffee bar brought out a bottle of water and filled our glasses. The bottle was left, but only had about one glass of water in it. That was used and no one came around offering more water. A worker filled glasses at another table and I had to stop her to ask for more water. This seemed to confuse her for a second like it was a weird request. This was the only acknowledgement from staff we got the entire time we were there enjoying our meals. I don’t know if I was missing something, but this was one of the worst service experiences I have had anywhere. The outdoor patio is great. It is away from the street, but still in a great spot to enjoy the neighborhood. Pets appear to welcome on the patio which is always a plus to me. I have visited both locations of Aixios. In the future I would be more likely to go to the one in the city because of the better service I have received. Good thing this location has such great food, because they really act like they don’t want you there.
