Absolutely glorious. I had a Jr. sized poke bowl and it was inexpensive and a reasonable serving. The fish was fresh and the sauce was really good! We had bread pudding for dessert and it was heavenly, no joke. I discovered this place because one of the guys that works there teaches a class that my friend takes at WCC(or something along those lines), and that friend took me for lunch. Awesome poke; highly recommend for cheap lunch on the go.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: I would have never found this GEM if it weren’t for Unilocal! LBS is literally a hole-in-the-wall serving poke bowls, sushi packs, sushi platters, handrolls, hamburgers/fries, and two types of dessert. The hubby and I both ordered the LBS specials: he had spicy ahi, smoked salmon and ahi poke, and I ordered the kalbi, unagi and ahi poke. Bowls come with hapa rice and a drink for $ 8 each. We both licked our bowls clean. In fact, the hubby commented that he wished the bowl came with more rice. But then I gave him a slice of their bread pudding and the first thing out of his mouth was«oh my god, this is the best bread pudding I’ve ever had!» And all was forgiven regarding the rice. So yes people, the bread pudding IS good! Show your check-in on the Unilocal app for a free handroll — it’ll really complete your meal. Next time I’m going to add a hamburger and fries to my order. Heads up: the parking lot is usually full but just be patient and wait for a stall. Better yet — call in your order while you’re waiting for a stall and it’ll be ready by the time you find a space. :)

My daughters and I stopped here today to grab some sushi and I am sure glad that we did! Their food is delicious and the service is great! My girls love California rolls(they are six and three) and the guy working the register suggested the inari pack for them to trey and even gave then reach a free sample to try! And their spicy ahi bowl is amazing! We will finely be going again!

Definitely a legit grab and go place in Kaneohe. A small family owned place with some big flavors! Located in a little shopping center, you come up to a pick up window to order your food! This place is a bit hidden, so if you’re not paying attention, you may just miss it all together, and you don’t want to do that! I love local boy sushi, especially for their smoked meat, ahi poke, and spicy ahi poke bowl. All their bowls are served on a bed of rice and they also have rolls and platter options too. Local boy sushi has great friendly staff and are very on top of their social media game! Bottom line: Fresh food, great friendly staff and a super convenient«grab and go» spot. Check it out if you’re nearby, and living on an island, this place is nearby!(verses Northern Virginia, where I’m from and the surrounding three states take 30 minutes to get into not including my 15 – 20 min drive into D. C but everything is spread apart so nothing feels near, especially on 66. Just in case you wanted some interesting facts about Northern VA… because I know we all do…) I’ll be back, and this time for the bread pudding and sweet potato haupia pie too!

I’ve been eyeing out this place for some time now, but being that I’m rarely on the Windward side I never got the chance to swing by this establishment. I’ve read so many people raving about this place so I just had to check it out. My friend and I shared the LBS(Local Boy Sushi) Special. For $ 7, you get to choose 3 choices of spicy ahi, smoked salmon, ahi poke, kalbi, kalua pork, smoked meat, or unagi over a bowl of Genji Mai brown rice. For all you folks who don’t like brown rice, be weary… they use Genji Mai brown rice in all their bowls and other sushi items on their menu. Luckily, I prefer brown rice so I had no problem with that. This also comes with a small drink. We got the ahi poke, spicy tuna, and smoked salmon. Ahi poke — Fish was okay, but it was quite salty! There were big chunks of salt crystals found in there that really took away from the ahi. Not to my liking. Spicy ahi — Yum! This was my favorite of the 3 choices. Nice size chunks of ahi with a yummy unagi sauce(or some kind of similar sauce). Not too spicy and quite flavorful. Smoked salmon — Meh… I’m a HUGE salmon lover, but the texture of this salmon was similar to that of canned tuna. There was also corn combined in this mixture. We also got the bread pudding. Amazing! The bread pudding itself was extremely moist, but then they add this incredibly delicious caramel sauce all over it… yummers! It is quite rich, so I’d recommend sharing with someone… unless you have a sweet tooth. Service was lightning FAST! We got our order in less than 5 minutes. Tip: Make sure you plan where to eat your food. The rice comes warm, so plan to eat your bowl soon or your fish will be slightly cooked. There is only one bar high table in front of their take out window. No chairs. A couple was already waiting at the table with their things, so we had to eat in the car. There are no other tables/seats nearby. Parking is also a little tough. We had to park on the side of the neighboring building.

Five stars for the ahi platter! What a pleasant surprise to have such a gourmet meal from a window storefront. Eating in front of the restaurant is the only way to eat if you don’t want takeout so I will not rate that part. The owners and staff are super friendly

Yum, yum, yum! worth a half an hour drive for a tourist like me who gets lost easily even with GPS. Fish is so fresh and melts in my mouth. I am thinking of going back at least once before leaving Oahu…

There are times when I withhold reviews because I am trying to feel a place out. I hate judging a place on one try, you know what I mean? And then there are times when I withhold reviews because I don’t want to share my secret spots with ANYONE. Confession: I have a secret that I am ready to share. I haven’t shared it with you until now because there’s never a line and it’s my current fave spot. I L-O-V-E Local Boy Sushi. Serious. Love. It’s a hole-in-the-wall, I-needed-Google-Maps-to-give-me-WALKING-directions-kind of spot. Like seriously, you might have even passed LBS a few hundred times and didn’t even see it. A couple of months ago, I finally stumbled upon LBS and, let’s be honest, it was love at first bite. I’m a LBS Special kind of girl — you choose three choices — AND you get a drink. #itsthelittlethings You can choose from spicy ahi, ahi poke, smoked salmon, smoked meat, kalbi, or unagi. Like, for reals, you cannot go wrong with any of these choices. Perfect for an indecisive chic like me, you can do a different combo every time you go there. I do. And for days where you wanna kick it up a notch, you can add in a shrimp tempura. #youdeserveashrimptempuratoday Yuppers, thank goodness for a legit poke bowl on the Windward side! Thanks to the boys that work there for never judging me on my «new mom» look — you know, unbrushed hair, boroboro clothes(you know what I mean if you are local), crying baby, stroller in tow… They let me call in my order and I do a stroller-drive-by pick up. Those boys are the coolest and chuckle every time I see them — because when food is that delish, you don’t even care what you look like. Ha!

No inside dining, take it to go unless the table outside is available. Food was good, no line at 1130am. Ordered the LBS special with shrimp tempura, ahi poke, smoked salmon and kalua pork. The smoked salmon was amazing. All of this was served over brown rice. Food was great, served in a timely manner, and reasonably priced. No issue with parking either. I shall return tomorrow for the smoked salmon.

I was at a coffee shop and saw a young woman eating some sushi. I asked her where she had gotten it as I didn’t see anything near by. Her reply was across the street at «Local Sushi Boy». They do not offer any where to sit so the came across the street. It looked so amazing I just had to try it. Plan you trip there as there isn’t anywhere to sit and enjoy it. The staff is super friendly and helpful. OMG I can not wait to go back to try more! I had the Spicy Ahi and it was soooooooooo ONO!

PSA: I could give five stars for their bread pudding alone. Really though, I could. Thankfully, there is so much more to LBS than just that. First of all the location. It’s in the same building as Pah Ke’s Chinese Restaurant, so thankfully there is usually always a place to park. It’s also outside, so there’s no need to walk into any malls or buildings. I really like this location as it is incredibly close to my home. Thanks for the convenience! However there’s no place to sit, but if you drove you can simply eat in your car or take it home or to the next parking lots over if you really can’t wait! I got the LBS with shrimp tempura, which means you have rice, three choices, and a piece of shrimp tempura. I got the spicy ahi, smoked salmon salad, and kalua pig. I really enjoyed what I got and surprisingly felt full afterwards! I didn’t think I would, honestly. The spicy ahi was spicier than I thought would be, but I enjoyed it. I really liked the smoked salmon salad, and the kalua pig was nice to have besides those two creamier sides. The shrimp tempura was extra crunchy, I don’t know what they did to make it that way, but I loved it! I also shared the teri fries with my family, which we surprisingly really enjoyed. There wasn’t an overwhelming amount of teri, but it was thick and sweet, and went well with their crinkle cut fries. The bread pudding. It deserves a section of its own. First of all, I don’t know what the heck that sauce is, but it’s like a combination of caramel and butterscotch and liquid gold. Imagine that. I can’t describe it, I’m no professional, but it is damn good. The bread pudding itself is soft, but is a bit more chewy on the top, where it isn’t drenched in liquid gold. They give a hearty portion that I could not finish on my own, and I’m definitely going back for more. I can safely say it is the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. Good luck to anyone trying to beat it. Lastly, I commend Local Boy Sushi for actually having local boys running the place and cooking up a storm. Also, the sweet lady working the front is incredibly kind. Thanks for the lovely service, and even lovelier meal! I’ll be back!

I want to love this place! To everyone who love this place — I’m sorry; I really wanted to like it. Turns out this place just did not suit my palate :( I ordered the LBS special with shrimp tempura which comes with two choices and a medium drink; if you check in with Unilocal, you’ll get a large drink which I didn’t do bc I just prefer water. My two choices were smoked salmon salad, spicy ahi poke, and ahi poke. Breaking that bowl down: QUALITY — The spicy poke and ahi poke were both not flavorful at all — it was like I was just eating pieces of hum ho it’s some kind of raw fish kind of fish :( The smoked salmon was pretty tasty :) I’d eat that again! :) The tempura was flat thin light and didn’t really seem like a shrimp was in there :(There really was no yummy delicious taste I thought I’d expect. TRIEDTHISPLACETWICE — I actually ate at this place twice. The first time was for lunch. I picked up this LBS special and took it back with me to work. I started eating it and then noticed a bunch of the ahi poke pieces had a green sheen on them. Usually this means old fish. :(How do I know?! Bc I’ve forgotten poke fish in the fridge that turned a green sheen so I immediately threw it away. It’s a very sad thought to throw any poke away :( After work I went back and showed my bowl to the guy at the counter who said he’d never seen anything like that before. Anyway, he asked if I wanted him to make another and I agreed. I took this new one home. When carrying it to my car, I noticed the rice at the bottom was really hot. Idk if that’s a good thing. If you have raw fish on top, it’s definitely not a great idea to put raw fish on hot rice unless you know that person will eat it right away. At home, I tried it again. This time no green sheen fish! Yay :) I wanted the taste to be different but it wasn’t. I enjoyed the smoked salmon and that’s it. QUANTITY — Rather than trying to give free drinks or food away as incentive, I think they should just focus on giving good portions. The fish portions in both bowls I received were really lacking much fish. For the $ 8/$ 9 price, there should have been a lot more fish than just ¼″ — ½″ deep. Let’s just say there was a whole lot more rice than fish in the end. Kind of a waste of rice, right?! TWOSTARS — Overall, I’m giving this place 2 stars bc I didn’t think this place gave much value for the money and in combination with taste of course with the exception of the smoked salmon salad, I definitely think this place could do well with some kind of taste tweaking overhaul of some sort. In my humble opinion, the fish just needs to be flavored better, larger shrimp in the tempura with better flavor, and perhaps the rice should be somewhat flavored if the poke is not so much although that might be kinda too weird(= one huge sushi bowl lol nah) idk. I try to be very selective of where I’ll eat when on the Windward side of the island since I’m not often on the Windward side of the island. Sorry this is not a fun exciting report of this place but am really hoping to see improvement next time I visit: D

Local Boy Sushi has great food and great service — a spot to regularly grab a quick lunch during work or early dinner on the way home. LOCATIONANDAMBIANCE: Local Boy Sushi is located in Kaneohe between Pah Ke’s Chinese Restaurant and the post office. Parking is limited because spots are shared with several other businesses in the strip mall. The restaurant is small with just a window to order at and no seating. The owner is an awesome guy from the Big Island, so he’s really nice. FOOD: There is an assortment of poke bowls, hand rolls, sushi packs, platters, and other good stuff(eg, burgers, fries). I tried a LBS special, which is a poke bowl with your choice of 3: spicy ahi, smoked salmon salad, ahi poke, kalbi, or kalua pork. It also comes with a small drink. I got the spicy ahi, smoked salmon salad, and ahi poke, and they were all quite good. I’ve never had smoked salmon salad before, but it offered a good mix of salmon, sauce, and corn(honestly, I thought the corn was weird at first, but it’s really good!). And the ahi poke has a sweet teriyaki sauce drizzled over the top. I also tried the bread pudding, which is to die for! Savory, sweet, but not too sweet. Moist, but not mushy. SOGOOD! SERVICEANDCOST: The LBS special is only $ 8, which is really cheap considering that many places charge that much for just one choice of poke. The owner Eric is really nice, and if you check in on Unilocal, your drink with a LBS special is upgraded to a large. OVERALL: I definitely look forward to eating at Local Boy Sushi again in the near future! Gotta support local businesses with great food and great prices!

I was driving home from a very busy day at work with a «I ain’t cooking dinner!» attitude! Debating with myself on where should I pick up dinner. Should I go to Farmer’s Market, Safeway, Panda Express? I just wasn’t feeling it. Then I remembered my sister-in-law telling me about Local Boy Sushi(LBS) a day or two ago. Aside from telling me where she went, she also had me try their Butterscotch Bread Pudding. OMG!!! I personally thought no one would be able to beat the delectable bread pudding from the Oahu Country Club — but LBS did… hands down! Well I drove there quickly because it was hitting around 5:30 p.m., and I remember my sister-in-law telling me they close at 6:00 p.m. I got there around 5:40 p.m. I was greeted pleasantly by a nice, young man. I ordered three Kalbi Bowls, one Shrimp Tempura Hand Roll, and TWO of those Butterscotch Bread Pudding. I was so relieved that they had all the items I wanted and that I didn’t have to hear, «I’m sorry, mam, we’re out of those items.» My order was ready at 6:00 p.m. Suffice to say, everything was ONO! My family enjoyed their dinner and dessert. A very nice way to end the evening. This review maybe long, but I have to point out, you have to come and support this LOCAL business. LBS took over the space that was occupied by Lee’s Drive Inn. Come over to the Windward side and read the cool article Erika Engle wrote about LBS; it’s posted on their window. Worth the trip and your time. Your tummy will thank you!

When it’s time for a poke bowl and I don’t want to drive over the Pali, Local Boy Sushi is the place to go! My favorite is the 3 choice Combo Bowl for $ 8 and includes a small drink. I usually get the kalbi, Smoked Salmon Salad(has onions and corn in it. .try it!), and the ahi poke. The fish is fresh and tasty! The ahi is cut up smaller for more flavor. .In my opinion. . The service is pleasant and helpful! The location is so convenient(next to Pah Ke’s and across from Walgreens) with free parking! Look for their cute logo on a banner that hangs above the shop and a banner right under the take out counter. Plus. .there’s a Unilocal check in special that varies. Right now, the special is an upgrade to a large drink. So…If you’re on the Windward side of Oahu and need a healthy, quick take out lunch or dinner, come to Local Boy Sushi. .you’ll be happy you did! I HIGHLY recommend it! Note: Local Boy Sushi also does catering and home parties. I will have them come over soon so my friends and family can enjoy some made-to-order hand rolls!

LBS has made a fan outta me! Like others are saying, they are located in the same building as Pah-Ke’s, where Lee’s Drive-In used to be, so just watch out for them. Their sign is hard to find because it’s black against green background. :) As many also said, LBS Special is the shieeeet. If you’re hungry, it might not be filling. I remember eating it and I was like, «Man, I wish I had more.» But it’s definitely cool, and they fill up on the brown rice. The bread pudding is also some of the best I’ve ever had in my LIFE. Seriously. It comes warm with a caramel sauce and it’s delicious and I can’t stop thinking about it lol. The poke tastes fresh, but not huge cuts of it– which is alright, but I wish the portions were a little bigger/cuts of fish a little more. It’s OK though, because it tastes fresh and it’s delicious and well-seasoned so that’s all that matters. The spicy ahi isn’t too spicy, which is nice and refreshing, and works well when you mix ‘em all. They do take credit cards, which is a plus. :) I can’t wait to try more of LBS’s food. The only disappointing thing is that they aren’t open later in the day, cause that would be bomb and it makes me a little sad :(And I wish their portions were bigger. Otherwise, pretty cheap, real grindz, love it!

After driving around to the incorrect address(be safe & just route yourself to the Kaneohe Post Office or Zippy’s), we almost gave up and ate somewhere else. Thankfully, the service was extremely friendly and the food totaly worth it! We got a sample of the salmon, but opted for the Spicy Ahi, Ahi Poke and Kalua Pork LBS combo with the dessert of bread pudding. The spicy ahi was amazing and perfectly seasoned. The dessert looked like it was going to be too sweet, but was the perfect balance.

Well we were eating on the go as we were heading from Kailua to Manoa Falls so we decided to stop off at this place my sister bookmarked. We drove by it several times as at the time there weren’t any storefront photos of the shop to identify it and when we finally arrived it kind of looks like a hole in the wall walk up kind of restaurant. Nothing wrong with that as we just were salivating for sushi. We ordered the veggie platter. Now if you look through the pictures you’ll see how much sushi comes on the veggie platter. I’m not sure why we thought we could eat about 80 pieces of sushi with our party of 2, but we were up for the challenge. Since he makes it all by hand and to order you do have a wait a little bit to get your food, but he honestly had all that sushi prepped and rolled in a matter of about 20 minutes! $ 25 for almost 80 pieces of vegetarian sushi!!! Hold the phone! I The platter was handed out the window and I couldn’t stop saying, «Wow this is really big» or «Why did we get so much?» We unwrapped the delicious tray in our rental car like it was Christmas. It was very delicious and there was so much variety on the platter(32 veggie rolls, 12 kappa, 12 oshinko, 12 kampyo, 10 inari). Sadly our eyes were bigger than our stomachs as we made it 75% of the way through. Bulging with rice bellies we left Local Boy Sushi full and happy. Probably wasn’t a good idea before going hiking but let’s just say we were carbing up. I’d definitely go back here as it was a wonderful deal for such a large quantity of delicious sushi. We gave the other 25% to the birds that liked to hang out on the balcony of our hotel room and they seemed to like everything except the nori(seaweed). There is no place to sit though and it’s basically a walk up food stand so it’s all take out just so you know.
