The fish burrito from this location is what I always get. I absolutely love love love the white sauce and everything in the fish burrito. I haven’t had much else from this location but it is small but easy to get your food quick and it is fresh. This location is kind of hidden in the Home Depot parking lot, next to a Subway. It is the same parking lot that has Target and TJ Maxx and Bed Bath and Beyond except it is a very big parking lot so it is much closer to Home Depot realistically. This is good fast mexican food and the price isn’t bad for what you get either. It is a sure thing with the burritos I have never had a bad experience but I have had bad nachos at one of the locations in Missoula.

Starting from 3 stars, add 1 star for vegan and whole wheat options, add 1 star for quick friendly service. Everyone has their favorites because there are great choices for everyone. I came here often before going plant based, and I used to love getting the fish burrito with white sauce. That white sauce has a great flavor. Since switching to a plant based diet, I stick with black beans and rice. A tip: If you specify no dairy like I do they will double up the guacamole! I recommend the big 14 inch burrito on a wheat tortilla, both options are worth the money in my opinion. Also try these changes: 1) substitute sweeter and crunchier cabbage instead of lettuce. 2) The pico de gallo is great, the hot sauce is habanero but not too hot, and 3) ask for jalapeño peppers if you like the pickled ones, they add that tangy kick. The point is you can customize no problem, and if they have whatever you can imagine, they will be happy to fulfill your desire. And thankfully they aren’t prejudiced against shaved heads!(Or tattoos or piercings, based upon their staff!)

of course we werent looking for the best taco place in the United States, but we did read a fair amount of reviews that suggested that this place was pretty good. And this is coming from two people who are not aficionados like a couple of other posters seem to try to indicate that they were. stale store-bought shells, really? It’s 2015 and it’s not that difficult to make your own hard taco shells. I paid extra for a taco salad with«steak» which amounted to formed Alpo. The best part, and perhaps the only good part, was the«fish tacos» which was baked cod. maybe the only reason that the fish seem good was it was in contrast to everything else, because in reality it tasted like somebody had just thought out a Gordon’s fishstick TV dinner. Everything else was sloppy, drenched, and the only people that would be convinced of its Mexican authenticity would probably be people from remote Mongolia.

Went back for a second trip and was really surprised at how mediocre it was. My burrito was okay, not great. Kind of a sloppy mess. My wife ordered nachos with one easy request — no sour cream. Well it wasn’t that easy so when they mistakenly put sour cream on it they«scraped it off» rather than just starting over and doing it right the first time. I’d been here before and really liked it, left this time with my wife asking me why I thought it was worth bringing her there. We won’t return.

I’ve been here about 8 times over the past year. It’s good chow, served up by nice people, on a tropical island in the middle of a big-box parking lot. I always have the 12″ fish burrito. One time the fish had been under the warming lamp a bit too long, I didn’t say anything because it was busy and, like I said, the folks are nice and I don’t want to be That Guy. I personally don’t like a soggy burrito(unless it’s supposed to be mojado) so I get it without white sauce. The mango habanero salsa is perfect with the fish. They also know how to wrap the foil in the proper, Mission District style, muchísimas gracias for that.

I don’t understand why this place was rated 4 stArs! The grilled steak had a warm spice on it. Yucky. This was the worst burrito I have had anywhere. And I’ve eaten a lot of them. Should of read reviews

I had an insatiable craving for Mexican food and I figured I could give these guys another shot, but that was a really terrible decision. So, the food is still incredibly bland, not very fresh, and handled by people who scream hepatitis to me and should be wearing gloves since their hands spend so much time on the food. The worst part is that my burrito was stone cold. Like cold enough that the cheese didn’t melt at all and I should have had the sense to throw it out, but I ate it anyway and got an incredible case of food poisoning from it. On my way back to work, I threw up all over myself and had to miss the last half of the day. I will be reporting this event to the health department and I’ll never set foot in that shithole again.

I stopped at this place on the advice of my sister. I asked if they could out their fish tacos in a bowl instead of in tortillas and they were happy to oblige. Food from this place is quick, tasty, and unique. The white sauce that they put on their fish dishes is amazing. I ate there two days in a row and will go back for more!

It’s cheap, and the food is good. Decent ingredients, but the shells are probably GMO. The staff gave me some attitude for not leaving a tip(why would I tip for something that’s $ 3 when I bus my own table?).

EDIT: So we decided to take the family while shopping and they stepped up their game or just had an off day when I wrote this review. The tacos were large and stuffed with shredded beef and the green chili topping was flavorful. The burrito was ample and full of flavor. The nachos were so good, my youngest brought the leftovers home and had for a snack. Just all in all 100% better in my opinion. We stop by anytime its lunchtime and were picking up supplies from Home Depot or the vape shop. Good stuff for sure. Having been born and raised in Arizona for a couple decades let me experience tons of Mexican food from central Mexico up to Phoenix. Moving up to Montana, I tried a few places and then gave up going out to have Mexican. Someone told me about this place and that it was just as good as what I was used to. I ordered a Carne Asada burrito with extra onions. What I was used to was a large warm tortilla, full of guacamole, copious amounts of chopped Angus beef, onions and even bits of green peppers. Now what I got was a sad cold almost soggy tortilla, full of uneasoned refried beans, brown rice and maybe 4 small pieces of, what I’m guessing was strip steak. Extremely disappointing to say the least. We wont be going back. I completely understand that they need to tame the taste for the demographic in the area, but it should at least sorta be comparable to a proper Mexican dish.

I am a sucker for fish tacos and have tried them from Maui to Mississippi. Well Kalispell, MT just showcased some of my favorite fish tacos EVER! They have some sort of white sauce that is sooo good. Go get you some!

Burrito heaven. You’ll find this simply presented burrito joint cranking out some of the best burritos in the valley. Here, it is about the food, so there isn’t a lot of seating space and what is there is a bit cramped. But the ensemble of interesting characters they hand-pick to serve your food are über fast and have a burrito making system. I walked in and out in 5 minutes during the lunch rush. Sweet! The fish burritos are generally the most raved about. Fish tacos are good. I find that the fish burrito gives you more bang for your buck then the tacos and it’s tastier since it comes with beans. These burritos are cheaper then Qdoba down the way and Qdoba doesn’t have fish. I’ve been frequenting Taco del Sol ever since they first opened in Missoula, and I’m ashamed to say I’ve never ventured past the fish until recently. It’s just that yummy I couldn’t convince myself to try anything else. But I’ve finally tried the Chicken and Shredded Beef in tacos and burritos and they are good and healthy. Carne Asada will be next on my list to try but it is 1.50 extra. They offer wheat tortillas for .25 more and guac, cheese and sour cream for more too, can’t remember how much. On the fish burrito you get a flavorful, freshly made pico, white sauce and I also add the Mango Habanero hot sauce. All of their salsas and sauces are fresh and scrumptious. The ONLY thing here that dissapoints me are their tortilla chips. They are store bought Santita-like. I mean come on, they’ve got to have access to a deal with a supplier to offer restraunt quality tortilla chips.(Talking to Taco del Sol now: You’re pico gets dragged down eating it with those chips! Please change that… however your burritos make up for your faux pas. We’ll forgive you for a little while longer…) Oh, and I wish they had a location in downtown Kali, but that’s a purely selfish request. If you don’t like this place, something is wrong with you :-)

Ordered a 12 inch fish burrito and while plenty of ingredients it was served with cold tortilla wrap even after it was in the steamer. Asked to be reheated and was told it was really hot but same result with just warm wrap. Chipotle wanna be. Very limited seating.

We eat here regularly as we are locals. Food consistency is great and the help are always courteous. This is a hard combination to best. This is the best fast Mexican food in town. Highly recommend.

Local, fresh, and fast. College town atmosphere with burritos almost as good as chipotle. Plus aluminum foil sculptures?

Pretty impressed. 2 guys working their shift last Friday night and while standing in line I witnessed both employees being really conscientious of not only their food preparation, but their interaction with customers. They kept running out of fish and apparently weren’t aware that the 40 days of LENT had begun. I ordered 3 Fish tacos and I scarfed ‘em down like clock work. The mango habanero hot sauce was tasty without any burn. Bathroom could have been cleaner as well as the restaurant. I could tell these guys were trying to keep up and didn’t realize the Lent rush was coming. TDS is fortunate to have these two employees. As a business owner and having just walked of another Mexican establishment in Hutton Ranch, my experience at TDS was refreshing and made to order. One word, GREATFULL!

If you’re used to truly hot and/or authentic Mexican street tacos, you will still be happier here than anywhere else in NW Montana. I think the meat, especially the chicken, could use a little more spice but this is good stuff, and the option of hard shell corn, soft shell corn or soft wheat is very welcome. Also, the ONLY place I know in NW Montana to get horchata. My fave: carne asada, with hot sauce, on soft corn shell. Salsa and guac is pretty damn good, and their burritos are ENORMOUS. Also, feels completely«homey» if you’re from the Pacific NW, i.e., just weird enough. :)

I like these guys! Second visit in second MT location. I had fish tacos both times. Staff were fun, they make their own salsas(with good heat, upon request), and the place was comfortable, with free wifi. Wish we had some in Portland :-(

Full disclosure: I used to work here. Part-time, for three months, more than three years ago. I applied for the job as much because I loved the food as because I needed the money. The extra tacos and burritos that I’d sometimes bring home from work, not to mention the free meal that I was allowed every day, made me the envy of many a Kalispell teenager. We all loved Taco del Sol. I recently had the opportunity to go back and I am happy to report that things haven’t changed. Taco del Sol is still the best place for a burrito in northwestern Montana. Prices are reasonable and service is quick. The vibe is Missoulian, which can be good or bad depending on how you feel about Missoula but doesn’t trump the food either way. My favorite thing on the menu is the fish burrito, which is best with refried beans, habanero hot sauce, and plenty of the creamy white sauce. The 14″ size is huge, but when you’re hungry enough it can really hit the spot. As a lanky teenage employee, I’d stuff my lunch-hour 14-inchers so full that they wouldn’t close and never had any trouble finishing them.
