This is the best sushi I have ever had. Dragon roll and butter fish are life changing. You’d have to be stupid not to come here

Has always been my favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant, but left today after 45 mins of waiting for our appetizer /dinner. No food in sight, no update of status, no apology or concern.

Food is great here. Small place. I always call in reservations. Even during the week.

One of my favorite sushi restaurants. I prefer to sit at the sushi bar because you can watch the TV& watch the sushi master in action. We always get excellent personalized service there.(It’s small though so if you have a large group a table would be better). Usually order the sashimi or sushi but the cooked food is tasty too. Good team work seen in the servers there… For example the hostess would go around filling water when not busy. It’s little things like that which show a well managed team. I also like how there’s always a complimentary dish when you arrive a «chefs special». Onetime it was karaage & last night it was soybeans. It’s small, but who doesn’t love a free tasty dish as soon as you sit down? Awesome food, excellent service.

Sushi in Hawaii, yes please!!! I was so stoked to go out with my sister in law and grab some yummy food. We got a little two seat table and started to order. I got the dream roll and we also ordered the firecracker shrimp to start. We digged in on the edamame and ordered some yummy drinks. I got the Fuji apple martini, delicious! The shrimp came out and it was so yummy, nice and sauced. They also have a really cool seating area in the window. There was a cute family sitting and eating. I wish we had more people to sit up there and be cool. Anyways, we got our food and enjoyed. The dream roll was really good. It had unagi and tobikko with real crab mix, and cucumber and avocado in the middle. It was a cool place to grab a quick sushi bite. The area they are in requires paid parking, of course, and the place is small. I was told we were lucky to get in. Reservations are recommended, especially if you want the cool seating.

Hard to find a good sushi restaurant in Kaneohe/Kailua, that doesn’t serve out of plastic or Styrofoam and we were looking for something a little more upscale so we went here. Not much variety on the menu. Limited rolls to choose from, but tasty. Service was really slow, but may have been due to frustrations dealing with a new girl working. Two other waitresses were working from what I noticed.

Very good sushi and service, a tad bit pricey(but what good sushi place isn’t?) A very nice neighborhood restaurant feel to it. I do recommend reservations because of the size of the place. If you like sushi this place should blow your socks off, I loved their ‘Dynomite’ rolls, but it took 1.5−2 orders to fill me. They have other food besides sushi to order(such as Karrage, butter fish, Bentos, ect.) They have(alcoholic) beverages as well, a few deserts are available too. My only knock on this is the size, it’s a pretty small(but busy!) Establishment, so making reservations is(strongly) recommended because this place doesn’t fill up fast. This isn’t exactly a big negative because a busy restaurant(in most cases) is a very good sign. Ps: The staff was very friendly & patient.

I started going to Tokoname Restaurant in Kailua when it first opened a few years ago, and have always enjoyed it. Cozy, pleasant ambiance, great service and great food. Some of our favorite entrees: miso butterfish, tempura(very generous portion), furikake salmon, teriyaki chicken. We always ask to «make it teishoku» with the entrée(+$ 5.95 for miso soup, rice, salad(always cold, crisp & fresh), tsukemono and a chef special appetizer). Food is always fresh and presentation is good. I usually order a Kirin draft beer. Green tea ice cream is a great way to finish off the meal. We will return!

Great service. Delicious food. Call ahead and make a reservation cuz the place is tiny. We got there at 5PM and by 5:30PM there were no seats! The tempura ice cream was delicious but the best best best was the rib-eye steak. YUM! Our waitress was super helpful and gave great recommendations. Although there were a lot of people waiting outside for a table, they did not pressure us to hurry.

One of the most decently priced sushi spots on this side of the island. They have«baked» rolls that are pretty good. Pros: Good prices. Great service. Good sushi. Cons: Not a big selection of rolls. They have complimentary edamame! We will definitely be going back.

It’s a nice small place with a very laid back atmosphere. I sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef was friendly and willing to serve up anything I asked for. The sushi was good and fresh with lots of variety. I definitely recommend the fried green tea ice cream!

Advice: Change your hours on Unilocal and your front door to 10 o’clock from 11 o’clock. If you close at 10, then let people know that, so you don’t waste anyone’s time.

Great sushi. Great rolls. Great sashimi. We started off with spicy Ahi sashimi which was absolutely delicious. Then continued with dream and rainbow rolls, and the tuna spicy which were incredibly fresh and tasty. The house red wine was pretty good too, but kind of warm… The long and the short of it: great food, nice environment, and not too pricy. Highly recommended!

This was a great find in Kailua. One of our favorite places to eat. Service was exceptional. This is a little place across from Walgreens. Has a few outdoor tables along with your standard sushi bar and indoor seating. We started with sashimi and had their salmon dinner with miso glaze… amazing. This is a must try place for anyone visiting Kailua or looking for someplace new to eat.

We are so happy to have Tokoname in our backyard — Kailua! It is our«go to» Japanese eatery on the windward side and beats a lot of the town establishments. The food is great and the service always top notch. Tonight, Sam took good care of us — attending to our needs but not being overbearing. Nice to kick back, have some sake and beer and enjoy the cuisine. Mahalo Sam and the entire Tokoname staff!

We were looking for sushi in town and the reviews for this spot were the best. Although we ended up ordering chicken and butterfish we had one roll each and it was super ono. The spicy tuna was spicy and the salmon role fresh and appropriate in size(one bite per piece). Make reservations. Small Spot. Great service.

The food here is excellent as is the service. Their sushi game is strong and they make a plantation tea that will knock your socks off. It’s a small place so it is advised to make reservations.

Wanted to eat good sushi, not the Genki kine, but didn’t want to drive to town(live in Kaneohe) either. So we got on Unilocal and found this place. The layout is similar to most sushi restaurants. There’s the sushi bar(the main focal point), with surrounding tables. There’s also outside seating. Parking is OK. We found a stall on the street just a few feet away from the restaurant. If you can’t find street parking, there’s a public parking lot just a block and a half away. For the food, we started with the gold nigiri set. $ 40 for the«top of the line» stuff they had that night. It was your basic uni, toro, unagi nigiri, with a shrimp tempura roll. We then order the karage chicken with special house sauce, and a few other nigiri sushi items. Everything was fresh, quality was good. The only issue we had was the room temperature/border line warm oysters in a half shell. That was a little hard to put down. I prefer cold raw oysters. The drinks were OK also. Variety was good. Tried the sake flights. Two of the 3 were good, one was exceptionally good. Went well with our sushi. We ended up spending $ 135 for 2 people. Not too bad, considering that the quality was good. Would’ve gave them 4 stars, but I had to deduct one star for those warm oysters.

Food is yummy, spent about $ 150 for food and drinks with the hubby yesterday. Drinks; Good not great. For the price expected something more or better. Got the mixed drink with the 151, got the white peach and citrus. Food; Got the ribeye steak; Super small for $ 20. Yummy and tender but not worth the $ 20. The gold nigiri set thing was good, $ 40 for about 8 pieces of nigiri and a tempura roll. Worth every penny. Tempura roll; Meh not good, not crispy. Tasted old and soggy. Spicy tuna roll; Hubby said its yummy. It’s good all the time tbh. It’s our go to roll. Chicken karaage; Small bite sized chickens, Pretty good. Decent serving size. Service; Our waiter Chad was nice and he got right to the point. He was good. And our food and drinks came out in a good amount of time. The ambiance isn’t all that great, This restaurant is cramped in a little hole in the wall. They had no seats inside and the wait would’ve been an hour or so. So we decided to sit outside. It was nice until the termites started flying on my food –_–

Tokoname is one of the few Japanese restaurants in Kailua. It’s a pretty tiny restaurant, but they have great food and service. Japanese food is my favorite cuisine. I came here expecting good things after reading the reviews and wasn’t disappointed. The meal began with complimentary soy beans. In terms of food, they offer a great selection of appetizers, rolls, nigiri sushi and cooked foods. I wanted to try the fresh oysters, but they were out and didn’t know when they’d get more :/ For dinner, I had the chirashi and enjoyed the quality of the seafood that was included. The dinner set came with salad that was drowned in dressing, so I’d suggest asking for the dressing on the side because the dressing was actually very delicious, I just would have preferred less of it. The interior is clean and nicely decorated. There is one awkward seating area, like the more traditional Japanese restaurant seating. It’s not awk because its traditional, it’s awk because there is a regular table right next to it, so people trying to get in and out would knock things over on the adjacent table. Lol it was pretty funny to watch people try not to put their butt in other peoples faces/food. The service was excellent, we were checked on frequently and our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable. There is another location in Manoa market place, but I definitely prefer this locations’ more intimate setting. The people working here are also nicer :) I will definitely be back again. I saw that they have a happy hour! :) it was fairly easy to find street parking and I don’t think they have a lot.
