Island Girl Eyecare

Best eye doctor I have ever been to! She is the nicest lady in the world and her dog is so cute (she stays in the shop with her.) Her prices are also really afordable. I hate doctors but she more than made me feel comfortable. Her shop is also adorable. It’s a little hard to find but if you read her directions on her website you’ll have no problems! I’m seriously considering flying out here for my yearly eye exams when we move back to the mainland just so I can keep seeing her!

I bought a pair of new frames and lenses from here probably around 6 – 7 months ago. The Dr. was extremely helpful, and I picked a great pair that’s lasted me well during these last 6 months or so. I definitely recommend Island Girl Eyecare!

I didn’t know what to expect. I knew that my vision was getting blurry so I decided to go and see Dr. McLemore.
Pros:
The office is behind Walgreens and was very clean and secure. Dr. McLemore was great, she did a pretty detailed eye exam. I am not as bad off as I expected HAHAHA. My prescription reading glasses were put in on the spot. There are different types of frames in the office that you can choose from.
The receptionist/​Optometry Assistant? Erika was very nice and beyond efficient. When I left the office I emailed her to get a copy of my eye exam numbers and she responded in under 5 minutes. She’s amazing.
I have a new eye Doctor in the neighborhood, and she is a dog lover.
FYI:
Parking. If you don’t find parking on the street, then you drive around the block to the «PUBLIC» parking structure, which might be a little hard to find if you’re not familiar with Kailua.
If you need to go to public parking, drive a little past the Dr. Office (Uluniu) and take the first right (Aulike) and another right after Hawaii National bank. It sounds more complicated than it is, but it should help. It is metered parking either way so make sure you have change.
Very happy with the experience, definitely recommend.

Great, quiet, professional eye care spot! They take Tricare The doctor is thorough, professional and a pleasure to converse with! A real people person! Their office is a little bit difficult to find but call them up and their friendly receptionist will guide you right there! Definitely glad I don’t have to go to Pearl City for my eye care needs!

Several driving forces were at work here:
– I’d gone so long from my last optometrist visit, that I had actually never paid for glasses myself (oh, those bygone days of mom’s insurance plan). And I am «aunty» status already;
– My reluctant seeing eye husband was due for a break (vision-​duties were cutting into his other very important responsibilities, such as The Taking Out of Trash and Reaching for Things on High Shelves);
– My license was due to expire and there was no way in heck that I was going to read line 6 (correctly, anyway). High time for a check-​up indeed!
Island Girl Eyecare was nearby, has online booking, and, as I soon discovered — provides top notch service as well as convenience! They have a nice selection of frames too, which helped me to embrace my new bespectacled self. Doctor’s visits are hardly on my list of awesome things to do, but the friendliness and efficiency of Island Girl Eyecare made this to do a snap.

Is it possible to be BFF’s with a optometrist you’ve JUST met? Well, that’s how I felt when I left Island Girl’s today.
I got my first pair of glasses a few years ago. I didn’t feel I really needed them TOO much, but here we are 2 years later and I am wearing them more often… and they don’t fit right. So I decided to find a place here in Kailua to check my eyesight again and to purchase a new pair of frames that wouldn’t slide down my face every 2 seconds.
I made my appt online, super easy! I put the appt in my Google Calendar and copied my husband. Well, he can’t read and thought my appt was a week early. Ugh. I call and tell them his mistake and they say «Can you come in today at 12:30?» YES! So they accommodated me on my husbands inability to read. Awesome, they are up 2 stars already.
I arrive a little early and the sweet girl at the front, I forget her name, has me sign a laminate form. Everything here is done electronically so forget the mountains of paperwork from those oldtimey days! Star 3
She checks my prescription on the glasses I brought in, takes me to a test room and takes some photos of my eyeballs. Around that time Dr. Liz comes in and she is the most friendly bubbly person you will meet. She makes you feel like you’ve known her forever and you have a history of being the best of friends. We walk back to another room where she conducts more eye test. Can I see this line? That line? Is this clearer? I’m putting some drops in, look at this green light… After all is said and done I am told I’m near sighted and have astigmatism. Alrighty!
I go upfront with my new prescription and pick out some cute new frames. They really do have cute frames and the price range is pretty great. I saw some frames that were $ 69 dollars all the way up to $ 300. Something to fit every budget.
I got a 10% off military discount, paid for my glasses and was told I’d get a call in less than a week to pick them up. WOO! Stars 4 & 5.
I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a friendly spot in Kailua to get your optometry needs taken care of.

Great customer service! Everything about my visit was great. Although it was my first visit, I felt like I’ve been going for years.

What a great visit to the eye Dr. Thanks to Island Girl Eyecare, for the first time in over 10 years I left the Optometrist’s office with a fresh new pair of trial contact lenses. My vision is pretty bad, so no one ever carries the strength I need without them being special ordered. AND I also got some absolutely AMAZING Maui Jim sunglasses that I’m pretty sure came with a sassy attitude… cause they sure make me feel sassy. On top of all that, the atmosphere is bright and comfortable, not the usual uptight, white, & stiff feeling eye doc office. Kudos to Island Girl Eyecare!!!

Had a really good appointment at Island Girl. I went in for full check up and eye exam. Service was professional, efficient and the office is very clean. Will definitely be using them!

Love this place. They take Tricare, I got an appointment really fast, and they have a great selection of glasses. The staff is really friendly and they even see kids. I am so happy to have found a great Eyecare place so close to home.

Summary: Love it and will be back!
Day: I haven’t had an eye appointment in a while and all the close objects/​puffing that they do to inspect you makes me hesitant to schedule an appointment anywhere! But after sore eyes and a push from my husband I searched for a place to get my eyes checked out. All of the military wives (more than 6+, not just one or two!) at Kbay recommended this place so without checking Unilocal or hesitating, I booked my appointment
Location: their office is located behind Mcdonalds. You can park there and walk the little way to their office. Its in the yellowish medical building and its on the left side :) Will make sure to take a picture next time!
Parking: is a little difficult. If there isn’t parking in front or in the grey structure to your left (if you’re facing the building) like I said, park by mcd’s and the bank and waltz over!
Office: Cute happy office with bright colors and a cute 14 year old puppy dog walking around. Its very calm, warm and so pretty for an optometry office.
Service: Roxy was my doctor and she was FANTABULOUS! So sweet and even though i’ve have a billion eye appointments she made me feel like I had been coming to their office forever! The highlight of my appointment is that they do NOT puff your eye. Instead they use drops and a blue light that gets a little close to your eye, but not in your eye. I liked it much better than the puff that freaks me out.
Long story short, I had a successful appointment and i’ll make sure to recommend this place to everyone I know, love it.
