Very much a tourist bar for those on the ships. You’ll need to ask locals for places to go that locals may go, which may be further outside the so called“downturn” area.

Who cares that it’s touristy, ITISFORPETE’S SAKE. But it’s a blast, as the piano player was great, shift changed to a guitarist and he was all country(old country) which was even better. The wait staff sing their parts on queue and it made my day, as I was laughing so hard I was crying. Food is okay, but we went here for the history, sawdust and to hear all the hootin’ and hollerin’. Great times!

Yes it was a tourist trap. Beer was okay as was the food. Claim to fame is «I went to the Red Dog Salon. BTW, service was good.

The food was good. Unfortunately the music was so loud that we could not have a conversation with our table mates. The waitress was rude and very unfriendly. I would look elsewhere in the city for a meal.

Juneau Red Dog Saloon is definitely the real deal of a saloon from the frontier days, from the outsider wooded log building, singing saloon doors, saw dust of the floor. The décor here has a lot going on from the memorabilia on the walls and ceiling there are wagon wheels light fixtures, a bear and deer heads, signs, tools, ropes, and a lot of other historic Items. The saloon was so crowded and packed with so many tourist it was unbelievable, the tables here was very small and round, so if we had got an table here it would have been so uncomfortable. The saloon back in the days provided hospitality and fellowship to travelers as well as the locals, a really great attraction here is that Wyatt Earp was visiting Juneau on June 271900 and checked his gun in a the Marshall’s office, he left Juneau for home on June 291900 at 5:00am on board the SS Senator ship and never claimed his weapon so it hang on the behind the bar here. There is a mercantile store on the side of the saloon that sell only Red Dog Saloon apparel, hats, glassware, novelties, and souvenirs, I can’t comment on the food here, so need time we come back here we will eat and drink.

Yep this is a tourist trap, but alot of downtown Juneau is. When a cruise ship is in town this place is hoping. I ordered a beer and got a glass for $ 12. I did not order food because of all of the negative reviews, but it was a fun experience. The live music is pretty good and funny.

It was a fun kitchy place with a charming waiter. However they did not have the ingredients to make items on the menu, the potato skins were barely cooked, no French fries, and no chicken wings. We came here for the chicken wings due to an article we read dated 2⁄16 stating they had some of the beat chicken wings in the state. When asked why we were told that it was the summer menu… wouldn’t come back. Also portions very small… enough so went back th of house to eat there.

The Red Dog Saloon is definitely a tourist trap during cruise ship season May through September, packed with controlled entry. There’s a piano player that’s pretty good playing to the crowds. The food is varies from fair to poor as popular as this place is. It’s for it’s piano entertainment and drinks. Help yourself to plate yourself some of their popcorn, sometimes a bit burnt. In the winter, it can be dead quiet. During their winter, they offer on Fridays and Saturdays from 5PM till gone prime rib 10 oz $ 19.95 or 14 oz $ 24.95. We went to order one, requested rare, but they don’t have any rare, the man said they have medium rare available, but when it arrived it was more medium well. The meat was drier than I care for.

Historic, unique, divey, touristy are all words one could use to describe this place. Is it worth stopping in? Probably, but don’t expect much. I was here as a kid when we came to Alaska on vacation. Other than that, it’s just a bar. It did have more people in it at 1pm than I expected, and the bartender was talkative and friendly. The interior décor is rather unusual, but I wouldn’t say there is a major draw to this place.

Oh look, a kitschy tourist bar in Juneau. Want to go someplace that probably wouldn’t pass fire code in the lower 48(just look at that flammable sawdust floor!)? Perhaps one ringed with the heads of dead animals, and perhaps purloined Coast Guard property? One with ties to the wild west via Wyatt Earps guns? This would be the place. I can’t comment on the food as the menu has always screamed«brought to you by the same people who fed you in college and feed prisons too». Prices at the bar, at least coming from San Francisco are about average to cheapish. Bar service is decent but don’t expect them to be making any Flaming Moes, Pan Galactic Gargle blasters or anything from a mixologists handbook. If you haven’t been to Juneau before, do the Mt. Roberts tram then come here. If you’ve done the tram, then come here. Unless you’re a Deadliest Catch fan I’d skip the Dutch Island Duck Fart shot.

fun for quick brew or two just to check it off the list, bartender was a trip and super friendly. a duck fart shot and an alaskan brew at the bar(no food ordered). I couldn’t imagine staying here too long bc i get annoyed at that piano playing stuff like irish kevins in KW style(funny since these two cities couldn’t be further apart geographically speaking)

This place is built to look like it’s from the 1800s but was built about 25 years ago. The food is what you’d expect, 2 stars on that. The alcohol is expensive. A $ 7 duck fart is what they boast about which is good but weak for the price. The beers taste old on tap, the bottles are good at $ 6 each. This is a neat place to have one drink but wouldn’t come back here.

People will tell you that you haven’t been to Juneau unless you’ve been to the Red Dog Saloon. Maybe so, but, really it’s only an overhyped, tourist bar in a town that the cruise ships have turned into a mini-St. Thomas. The waitresses dress in skimpy«cat house» outfits. The food isn’t bad, and the chowder is actually pretty good. But if this is the real Alaska, I don’t want any part of it anymore. When I was last in Juneau in the 1990s, it was just a pleasant small town on the coast with a lot of local color and nice folks. Now it looks like Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas, with Diamonds International and other cruise ship stores all over town, complete with hucksters trying to draw you into their shops. There’s an overpriced tram at the cruise ship dock that takes you up to about 1800 feet above the harbor(though I must admit the view is great). It’s terrible what the cruise ships have done to Juneau(and Ketchikan, Skagway and some other ports). I like cruises, but I don’t like what happens when a small town lets the cruise ships take it over. Red Dog Saloon simply takes advantage of the cruise crowds in summer. And, boy, it rakes them in, with their cash. The food and drink aren’t terrible, and prices aren’t high, but it’s not for me.

The first place we stopped at when we got into town after dropping off our bags was Red Dog Saloon. This place was no dissapointment given its great food variety options, as well as the fun atmosphere. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who was able to break down the menu very well, as well as give us a lot of history on the saloon. While we ate, we were able to talk to various patrons about Juneau as well as learn more than we could ever imagine about both the saloon and its history amongst the city. After eating we were able to walk around, take pictures, and visit the great saloon shop. Overall, our food was delicious(you must try the dipped corndog as well as try their Root Beer), and the customer service will always be remembered because of the great hospitality. We look forward to coming back to the Red Dog Saloon on our next visit. Thank you again!

Wow, coming here made me feel like I was a cowboy ready to do a gun sling and shoot someone. hahaha. Red Dog Saloon is suppose to be the most happening place in Juneau. How funny… when we got there at around 8:00PM, it felt like they were about to close. Basically it was only the six of us and another party sitting across the Saloon. Yes, we got the stare down, because I assume Asians was a rarity going there. So a group of six… hrmmm… only made them wonder. LOL. We must have walked past this place like ten times during our stay at Juneau. I think the saloon gets most of their business during the day because we saw more people inside earlier, and it seemed more energized. But, it was still cool experience. The waitress was extremely nice and made sure we were okay. We basically ate dinner elsewhere, and wanted to check out that saloon. They do serve food inside, we ordered a deer meat sandwich and had drinks all around. The deer meat was pretty good. A little bit of an after taste, but I like it better than lamb. The décor inside was awesome. Lots of animal heads hanging on the wall, along with old tools and weapons(probably) from the Frontier days. There was a couple of red swinging doors as we walked in, and I thought it was cool. Yes, I was fantasizing about being a cowboy! Cool place while it took a bit of getting use to.
