I really love this cozy spot. A neighborhood joint, pretty small but the atmosphere is welcoming and the bartenders are so normal and nice. I go there after work for a quiet place to have a drink and watch the tube. I’m not sure how it gets later at night because I’m not usually downtown when most people are out partying. Love you Lamp Post!

I ordered delivery from here once and recently visited to grab a quick bite for dinner. The place is a classic dive. Not too big. A handful of flat-screens showing random channels. The staff seems really tight. They’ve also definitely got regulars. But the stand-out here is their burgers. I don’t know what the fuck they’re seasoning that patty with, but it is a solid ½ lbs. of divine bovine. The burgers taste the way you imagine a perfect, classic bar burger should taste. Flavorful, but not from any secret or exotic ingredients. Just a damn good balance of sauces and seasonings with a fresh off a grill smell. It may be one of my favorite burger places. My Guinness tasted a bit sour, but I chalk that up to chance – besides, it was nothing serious; still perfectly consumable, especially while you’re wolfing down one of their phenomenal burgers. I overheard the staff mixing up and going over some new cocktail recipe with a couple patrons. I don’t know if it’s for the joint or for some other purpose, but I really enjoyed hearing it. Something about bartenders talking about perfecting cocktail recipes just feels damn right. Like mechanics talking about their favorite engines. This is what you want to hear at a bar. I came to eat a damn good burger, not really to hang around and socialize, so I can’t really speak to that aspect of things. It did feel like a chill place to swing by with a couple good friends for a few rounds if you’re not looking to get all fancy. Just hangout and shoot the shit all casual like, as you would at a dive bar.

A decent(and if nothing else, cheap) way to start or end the night. I certainly wouldn’t plan to make this a «main feature» of my night for how much a dive bar it is, but the food and drinks are cheap and it isn’t as nasty as some other dives. It’s a bit removed from other bars in the area, so unless you live very close by I don’t know that I’d make a special trip to go here.

Great bar food ! Our favorite spot when we don’t feel like making dinner & having some beers :) The chef is a really nice person & the potatoe skins are delicious!

This is a true dive. It feels dark and damp inside. The music is usually on the hip hop side, which I can really dig because anytime I am here it is one or two drinks before Blackout city. Boilermakers: 5 $ allll day. That consists of a PBR and some crappy whisky. Insider tip, if you ask nicely… they’ll magically turn that into Jameson. Why do I really like it here? Cause you can be as sloppy drunk as you want and they will welcome you with open arms. The food is clearly directed towards the drunkards too. I usually cant remember what I eat here. Those late night booze munchies always seem to get the best of me. Once, I did remember eating some fries with a side of mac n cheese dip. It was clearly some pureed mac n cheese with a side of piping hot fries. I didn’t hate it so dont hate me. Another thing I love is they have ZERO cell service inside. ZERO. Thats the true calling card of an underground dive. Im also less likely to get recorded breaking it down to some jamz.

I have been to the Lamp Post many times before and the ladies room is consistently missing certain essentials. On a busy night, there is NEVER enough toilet paper. I have also noticed that the toilet paper roll is often wet and soggy, probably due to the fact that there is no toilet paper holder. Sometimes there is soap. Sometimes there are towels to dry your hands. Clean for the most part. I like this bar well enough, but bathroom standards need to be raised. Flee or pee: Flee if you are bar hopping in favor of a nigher restroom like the Iron Monkey(NOT Lucky 7. You can visit their page to read my review on their facilities). Otherwise, PEE. You don’t have a choice!

We ordered through Grub Hub tonight. The food was delivered earlier than estimated. Perhaps they should have taken the full time. My Caesar salad was missing the chicken. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the coleslaw on the side thankfully because it smelled spoiled. The BBQ sauce is not Carolina style. Also just for your knowledge, French fries are breaded. Follow-up: The day after I posted my review, The Lamp Post called and refunded my order. They also offered to pay for our next order. How is that for customer service? Maybe I will give them another shot.

I’ve ordered take out from here a few times so I can’t comment on the Lamp Post bar scene. For being a dive bar, the Lamp Post sure knows how to churn out some pretty good eats. I’ve had their penne alla vodka with chicken. OMG… so good. And their burger is delicious too. The only menu item I didn’t like was their chicken fingers. It looked homemade but didn’t taste good. But I’ve ordered other items since then and couldn’t be happier. Definitely worth a try.

Lamp Post isn’t on my regular rotation of bars or eats. It’s usually the bar I go to when I’m rolling 10 deep and I need a bar that won’t be crowded. So when Saturday night rolled around and me and my ten not closest friends were looking to tie one on after a few hours of day drinking, as well as looking to watch some college hoops, Lamp Post it is. The $ 5PBR& a shot is disgusting, I had three. The shot was straight turpentine style and the PRB was draft? and was somewhat flat and really not tasty at all. Again, that did not stop me from having 3, and I must say the 2nd and 3rd weren’t quite as bad as I thought. Go figure. My pulled pork sandwich? Pretty damn tasty. It was a nice hunk of meat topped with slaw and a hash brown all on a sesame seed bun. Kind of awesome if you ask me in a no frills type of way. No sauce on the side, but to honest, none needed, it was the perfect amount. The bartenders are the servers and our dirty plates sat there for the time period we were there, which is not awesome, but this is a dive bar. It’s like a dive bar for the 30’s+ crowd, which wow, I am now part of clearly. Let those kiddo’s have Lucky 7’s, it’s too damn crowded and loud. Keep your expectation at what this place is: a dive bar that serves up food, local bands many nights of the week and karaōke on Fridays.

Go early for happy hour(2 for one drinks!) and put 5 bucks in the jukebox! An excellent start to the night. I must be getting old because any time I’ve been here late at night, I’ve hated how crowded it gets so coming early to enjoy this low-key dive is key! Oh, and the fries with mac and cheese sauce? Pretty great!

Pretty chill spot with $ 5PBR& shot specials and a friendly bartender. I enjoy a bar that isn’t too packed or trendy– sometimes you just want a good neighborhood bar and this just may be it! The bathrooms were clean which is always a plus and I liked how the bartender put some sugar on our lemons for our lemon drop shots– sweet touch! I hear they have karaōke night which is on my to do list!

Just discovered this place recently when a friend of mine told me he was DJing there. I believe the weekend live music is a new thing which is always cool. Went on a Friday night, was comfortable with the amount of people. Was easy to get a drink. The owner Mike was really nice and cool but he did give me and my girlfriends shots on him which we ended up paying for. I guess the bartender wasn’t aware they were on him. But that doesn’t affect my rating. Perk is the small gated area out front where you can bring your drink to smoke a cigarette or what have you. It’s a small/divey joint so it’s best go here with a good group of friends after(like someone before mentioned) you’ve been to bar 1 or 2 first.

This place is a small dive bar in downtown Jersey City, closest to the courthouse. They serve good comfort that tastes homemade. The patron bartender was very friendly and gave decent suggestions about items on the menu. Went here for the New Year’s Eve since the website said there would be a band. As it turned out the band just milled around for most of the two-half hours we were there and didn’t play anything at all. Left before midnight to watch the Ball drop at home but if you’re lucky they have scheduled bands/music on a weekly basis.

I’ve been here a couple time and I’ve always had fun. This is second or third bar of the night type of joint. You have a drink or five and you’ve worn out your welcome at spot number one. They have the basic set up with seats at the bar and high tops to the left. Head to the back and there is more space where a band sets up and if your really lucky. Karaōke. They do have some drink specials. The most notorious being the PBR and shot of well whiskey for 5 smackaroos. Beware the special. It can turn the second bar of the night into the last bar of the night. Bars like these are always more fun with the right group of friends and thankfully I surround myself with some bad ass Unilocaling mofos. Looking forward to the next time I can take advantage of the $ 5 special. Cheers!

There are really only two things you need to know about The Lamp Post Bar & Grill — their Angus burger is absolutely amazing, and they have $ 5 PBRs with a whiskey shot. Other than that, not much else needs to be said here. Great local neighborhood bar that’s divey, super low-key, and just perfect for some late-night drinking and hanging out with friends. They have TVs for sports watchers, sometimes a live band, sometimes a comedy show, a jukebox, and the music they play is a mix of classic 80s/90s hits. The décor is outdated, but this place has been here for several years and has kept its integrity for providing great drinks, quality bar food, and genuine, friendly service to both old and new customers. Expect to feel right at home and comfortable when you come here for the first time. Their Angus burgers are undoubtedly delicious. I wasn’t expecting much from their burgers, and I usually order with cheese or something on top, but I forgot to order extra toppings. My burger came plain with a bun, so I was planning for disappointment. Even without cheese or even ketchup for that matter, this burger blew me away. If anything, try their Angus burger!

The Lamp Post Bar & Grill is a hidden gem in downtown JC. The bar has minimal fancy décor and you’ll see a lot of wood in the back dining area close to the kitchen that looks like the 70s. Came by here for the first time following a Unilocal Event. I only had drinks the first time but really should have gotten food here instead of going to White Castle up the block. When I did return I did get to order food which was the Angus burger that was super affordable for around $ 8 which includes a side of fries. I substituted them for onion rings at no added cost. I got cheese, mushrooms and caramelized onions which really made it a solid meal. There’s a limited selection of taps but plenty of other choices in bottles or cans. There’s a daily special of PBR and a house shot of whiskey for 5 bucks which is pretty good and mostly have seen in dive bars in NYC’s LES. The bar and grill just is off Newark Ave., but a little bit longer walk from the main Grove Street area, and I don’t expect to come by just to pop in unless friends are coming through. Bottom line this is a great local neighborhood bar and from the times I’ve been by haven’t been majorly packed. For a low key meetup with pals and cheap satisfying bar food, this is a spot to check out in the area.

Going to the Lamp Post is like taking a trip back in time. Nice and neighborhood’y with a limited stock of beers and liquor — the place wasn’t without some charm. The décor hadn’t been changed since the 60’s, it was interesting to say the least. Drinks were cheap but not as cheap as I would have thought by looking at the place. Everybody was very nice and I think if you frequented it, you’d have a great time. Dive bar to a t, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I’m such a yuppie, this place isn’t for me. At some point in my early twenties, there was a fork in the road. The path I chose has me now sitting in a suit at my corner office in Manhattan, wearing cuff links and thinking about where I can get organic kale for a «killer» salad tonight. This guy likes 12+ year old brown spirits(yes, I called it «spirits»), traditional cocktails and cold fancy draft beers at drinking establishments. «Fancy», in the aforementioned, does not mean an orange slice in the beer. Catch me at PJ Clarks on the water. The other path leads to The Lamp Post. That would make me the 30-something year old wearing my «favorite» hooded sweatshirt and a jacket that is a competition between being too old or too smelly. I’d be drinking Pabst on tap or a beer with an orange slice in it. I’d order dinner at the Lamp Post, consider it fantastic and proceed to get wasted drinking crappy shots. I’d make a lot of friends at the Lamp Post, for sure, and leave with a huge smile on my face. My wallet would be happy, as well. If you’re of the Lucky 7s and White Star crowd, here is your home in the so-called Jersey City Village. If you’re fancy, like me, then get your martini at Light Horse(just loosen your tie so you look relaxed). Cheers!
