Pizza is great here, try the margarita pizza! Good location and good parking. Love Paulus Hook

I’ve ordered pies here a few times, both for large parties and just the family. The pies are decent and seasoned well, however, the dough is quite thin. By the time the pizza gets home, it is already lukewarm even though I just saw it come out of the oven 10 mins ago. The store itself is tiny with only 2 maybe 3 tables inside, which is why I usually just do a drive by.

Terrible pizza. I don’t get all the hype over it. The cheese was weird and rubbery. The sauce tasted really strange and almost chemical-like. No flavor or seasoning other than the basil(got a margherita). The guy that works behind the counter is not very friendly. The one time we have had delivery, the delivery guy was a complete ass. He was extremely late and got lost(we live literally down the street) and yet he spoke to us and treated us like it was our problem. Just a nasty attitude for no reason(we weren’t even mean or hateful about it being almost two hours late and still tipped him appropriately). He didn’t like what we tipped him so he verbally mentioned this out loud and was an ass about it as he walked away from our door. This pizza place supposedly uses organic products and high quality ingredients but I don’t taste it at all. Quite frankly, they are extremely overpriced as well.

This is the best pizza that i have had in the financial district area of Jersey City. I have tried other places in the area for lunch and this place by far has had the best pizza. It is a little pricey for a couple slices but it is worth the treat. The sauce is just the right amount of sweetness and they use fresh mozzarella cheese which makes it even better. The pizza is thin crust. Even the Sicilian slice is thinner than your typical Sicilian slice. I will keep going back to this place for the pizza. I did try the wings and they were not good at all. Just stick with the pizza.

I ordered the chicken parm and it came in a tasteless watered down«sauce.» For 11 dollars, this is simply unacceptable. The chicken was hard and rubbery, and the cheese tasteless; I highly doubt that it was prepared fresh. Save yourself the headache and a few extra bucks, and head over to Presto’s for some real Italian food.

It’s the size of a closet. You have to enter the bathroom via the wine merchant, around the corner. The pizza is fuckin crispy and über-savory. You can sit outside and gawk at the stroller moms waddling by.

Unless you have a bottle of lube with you, don’t go into this place. Or it will hurt. A LOT!!! Over-priced is an understatement. Not sure what they think they have but it’s certainly not worth it. $ 8 for a tiny tomato mozzarella salad –really? Give me a break. If I’m going to pay that, I’ll go to a real restaurant. I won’t make the mistake of coming in here again. I’ll go to John’s instead where a dried out, tasteless slice of cheese pizza doesn’t cost more than $ 4 a slice. I’ve never written a review in my life, but the experience here compelled me to write one. Stay away!!!

Use to be good about a year or so, ago. Use to make a good thin crust pie. Had a pie last night — like eating wet rubber bands. What is with the«rubbery» dough? Over sauced, soggy, under cooked and just not etibile. $ 22.00 and my wife and I put it in the garbage. I live close, but will not go back. Other options in JC.

Ordered the white pizza. Never seen a more unappealing looking pizza. I looked like a rubber piece of poop. Absolutely tasteless. Says it comes with garlic… not even a hint of it.

I tried their half white and half red and it was just ok and crust was not really burned but more of when you don’t ever clean the oven and there is so much burned stuff left that gets stuck to your pizza. This is what I got!

This place is one of the few options for a slice of pizza in the Paulus Hook neighborhood, which is unfortunate for us. The place is overpriced but since there really isn’t any other options in the area(other than John’s who only serves pies) I guess it’s ok for them to charge a premium for slices. Some may say you pay more for quality, but at the price they charge I expect better quality/preparation of each slice/pie. The service isn’t any better, in fact they can at times be downright rude. You’d be better off walking to the Grove St area to grab much better slice or pie.

Was hoping this place would be a bit better, especially at its price point, but it was nothing special. And toppings cost HOWMUCH?! No, seriously, I think they were $ 2.00 each for half the pie — and we got GARLICANDONION. I watched some lady order a slice with chicken on it, without asking how much it cost and which kind of chicken it was, and then being sort of baffled when they told her. Too bad for you. Ain’t no cheap slices here! My boyfriend and I got a large pie, half plain half garlic/onion. The ratio was off, and the toppings were too heavy and the crust too soggy, and we ate the pie on site immediately upon it being served. And yet, still too soggy. A few two person tables inside, with at least one of them directly against the back of the brick oven. Their menu is funny — they feel it is muy importante to highlight their imported parmesan, «extra fresh mozz» etc. instead of focusing on better preparation. I’d try this one more time, plain pie only, and then probably declare Razza as the best in downtown JC.

My sister, Fiona C., and I came here for our dinner this past Friday. We walked up to the door to see a small, unassuming pizza shop with a few tables both indoors and outdoors, and after ordering our pizza, headed outside to enjoy the early fall weather. We ordered a small pie, half margherita, half chicken bruschetta, and enjoyed every savory bite when it came out at the perfect temperature – still hot, but able to be eaten immediately. Let’s break down why this pizza is so good. First off, it’s super fresh, so every ingredient tastes distinct and wonderful, and then the crust is both chewy and thin – not easy to do, folks. I especially enjoyed the chicken bruschetta, with its tangy olives, full-flavored tomatoes, and hearty grilled chicken, but the margherita was delicious as well. For us two ladies, the small pie to split was the perfect amount to be satisfied but still have room for dessert, win!

YUM. Absolutely Fresh & Delish! Hung out is Paulus Hook last night and needed a quick late-ish night food option so we stopped by here for a couple slices to go. Margherita Pizza By The Slice… Yes please! In fact, I was more than pleased thanks to that perfectly melted mozzarella cheese, thin crust and red sauce that did not at all overpower it. For sure we’ll be back again & again…

It’s been a while but Paulus Hook Brick Oven Pizza is a lot better than what I remembered from my last visit! Get the sausage pizza with extra tomato sauce on top… it’s delicious!!! Crunchy crust, melty cheese, crumbled and sliced sausage on top… fold it in half and down the hatch it goes!

Paulus Hook Brick Oven Pizza, we are upgrading you bigtime. All the way up to four stars. Maybe you deserve even more… maybe 4.3 stars. While we won’t and cannot vouch for the pizza-by-the-slice, we’ve gotta say that in terms of whole pizzas, the Supreme and the White & Red pizzas are excellent. Again and again, you guys deliver! Actually — you don’t deliver to me, because I gotta pick it up myself and sprint back home, and do everything in my power, everything possible by me under the sun and the moon and the farflung stars of the night sky, to prevent the crust from getting wet inside the box as the steam builds up. It is most imperative! It is critical! Do not, for the love of all that is good and wholesome on planet earth, do not let the pizza sit in the cardboard box, steaming and soggy-ing up. Do not! Thin crust pizza delivery is a gamble my friends. a) It’s downright dangerous. b) The humidity of the steaming pie can turn something meant to be crunchy, something destined to be crunchy, into something it was never meant to be — something wet and chewy and rubbery. c) In my humble opinion, you must reduce the time between coming-out-of-the-oven and entering-your-mouth at all costs. By all means humanly possible! d) Depending on your tolerance for soggification, it means that you might have to pick it up yourself. e) It might mean that you refuse to do either pick up or delivery — and that you have to sit outside the oven yourself, knife and fork in hand, refusing to let any soggification occur/ I’ve had PHBO pizza in connection with pizza lunches at the office. And I tell you — PHBO pizza is not meant to be eaten in a big office party after the pizzas have gone cold and the thin crust was not treated with the love and attention it deserves(and allowed to get chewy/rubbery). This place uses fresh ingredients. They do. They must. it just really stands out. And the way to test this is to order the Supreme. The toppings are not coming out of a freezer. Now, I will say that the Supreme’s crust is not crispy. it cannot be — because the toppings are like still alive. so, yes, there’s wetness — but it is offset, i believe, by the freshness of the ingredients. this pizza pops with flavor. We’re also fans of the Red&White, as well as the margherita. Here are my words of wisdom. 1. order delivery at your peril.(no matter how diligent the deliveryguy may be, you risk major soggification). 2. buy slices at your peril. 3. appreciate the freshness of the ingredients. biting and chewing slowly while closing one’s eyes can help. 4. if you do order delivery, or even if you pick it up yourself and some soggification ensues, it might help to have a hot oven waiting at home to try to de-soggify. 5. warn your loved ones, teach your loved ones, about the dangers, the outright horrors of soggification.

This has become our go to pizza place in JCcity. We enjoy their product. We like that the dough is organic, and the ingredients are fresh. They also sell organic baguettes, which we also like very much. Weve never eaten it there since the space seems a little small, so its usually a pick up order for us. They are always prompt with it, which we appreciate since we usually drive and park illegally since parking can be a hassle. Also a plus; located right next to a wine/spirits shop!

Came here awhile back and I’m happy to report that there is decent pizza in Jersey City! This place is housed in the same space as a liquor store the owner owns but they aren’t directly connected. The owner had some sort of bizzare rivalry with another pizzeria in Jersey City name La Rustique as they were previously connected, but I’m not getting into that whole thing. The space is very small with only a few tables inside and a few outside, so it’s suited more towards slices perhaps. Slices cost significantly more than if you order a pie though, and I’ve heard more than enough people complain about it. Upcharges aside, this pizza is good. I just got a margherita slice. There is definitely a connection between this place and La Rustique, as the pizza is basically the same; if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it I suppose. The crust is very crisp with no softness to it at all. The tomato sauce has decent flavor, the fresh mozzarella was ok, and there was a bit too much grated parmigiana on my slice. All a whole it was still a good slice of pizza and one I would get regularly if I lived nearby, but nothing more. Some of the reviews here seem to suggest coming over from NYC for it is worth it: I disagree personally. In fact, I narrowly prefer La Rustique to this, although both are far from perfect pizza. But if you’re a big enough pizza person and/or nearby, definitely check this out.

I try and I try and I try to be a gan of this place, but I just can’t seem to get a good slice of pizza here. Is that problem? That I go in for slices? So many people love this place, and rave about the pizza. I’m wondering if I ordered a whole pizza, I’d be happy with the quality. Thoughts anyone? As for why I rate this place so low? In my experience the slices are inconsistent for starters. Sometimes they are soggy, and can barely hold the toppings. This forces me to eat with fork and knife as the other option would be to wear the pizza home down the front of my clothes. Other times I find the crust to be very dry. It just has that cardboard-like texture I am guessing comes from sitting out for a long time. Nothing worse, then black bits stuck in between your teeth from the brittle, burnt edges of an old crust. On a positive note: They use really fresh, quality toppings. I do like that, but it’s not enough. Pizza is only as good as the sum of all ingredients. You will see me continue to check in here as I continue to hope for the good experience at a pizza place a block & a half from my apartment.

If you are in Jersey and don’t feel like crossing the river to get a slice of NY pizza, head over to Paulus Hook Brick Oven Pizza. It’s a small place more for takeout but there are a few small tables with outdoor dining and they sell pizza by the slice. I can’t believe how good their pie is. We ordered a Margherita and they baked a fresh one just for us. The dough was thin, crispy, and the crust was pillowy. The sauce was light along with the fresh mozzarella cheese. My favorite was biting into a piece with a sprinkle of fresh basil. The combination was heavenly. Paulus Hook Brick Oven Pizza is in the cute area of Jersey City where the streets are clean, safe, and the houses are brownstones. If I had known about this place when I lived in the area, I would have bought their $ 3 baguettes to eat with Nutella.
