We have had a vacation home here for 11 years and used to visit their restaurant when it was another name and in a different location. We didn’t know it was the same owners until we sat down. The restaurant is very nice and gives an authentic feeling. The food was very good. The ladies room was having issues and not of the toilets flushed. The only issue is that the server did not speak English and although he seemed to know certain sentences to get bye he didnt understand my order. I had wanted a burrito and told him I was a vegetarian and only wantes it to have cheese, rice, lettuce and tomatoes in it. He brought me a cheese burrito with rice on the side and a separate plate of lettuce and 3 slices of tomatoes. It was good and comical. I didn’t really mind. The guacamole and chips were great as well. My husband had chicken burrito and he said it was great and very authentic.

Some of the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. The quesadilla I got was delicious. I normally don’t care for guacamole, but the guacamole here is really good. Potions were big too. You definitely get your money’s worth. The service was perfect. They were fast and friendly.

Let me start off by letting you in on a secret that’s not on their menu– the glass at Tamale’s is spectacular. Got a nice chuck of it while drinking some beer, as it had broken off my glass somehow. The manager made sure to give us the pitcher for free, but I feel incredibly fortunate not to have cut up my mouth/throat with the glass shards. Second, another lesser known fact– the appetizers are served after the entrees. Our nachos never came, and the waiter said they were on their way after we received our main dishes. Well, the check came before our nachos, which never showed up. Despite getting the pitcher for free and never getting the nachos, both appeared on the check… The food was decently good, but it wasn’t worth the shards of glass or invisible nachos.

Don’t be fooled by all of the people who have no idea what good Mexican food is giving this place five stars. I promise you they only ever order ACP(chicken, rice and queso). The actual dishes that you might go to a Mexican restaurant for are overly greasy with a poor spice profile. Also, this place used to be located elsewhere and had to re-name and relocate because of multiple incidents of people getting Salmonella. If you want greasy, poorly spiced, cheap mexican food, make the five minute drive to Taco Bell.

Stopped in here for dinner on a Friday night with mixed results. First off, the menu is HUGE and a bit overwhelming. The chips they bring out were nice and crisp and the salsa, though mild, had a good smoky flavor. I got the fish tacos, which are served as three huge tortillas wrapping lots of nice, flaky chunks of fish and with a bowl of very nice pico de gallo on the side. The only issue here was that the seasoning for the fish had too much salt. I also got a shrimp and octopus cocktail, also hit and miss. The shrimp and octopus were nicely cooked and firm-textured. I was not, however, a fan of the«tangy» sauce filled with avocado chunks. It was too sweet and overpowered the delicate flavor of the seafood. The dish was rather oddly served in a too-tall, clunky goblet on a platter with Zesta crackers. I think I might fare better here with the chicken dishes, so I might return to try one of those. Service was efficient and pleasant. The interior is… well, let’s say it’s colorful and leave it at that. By the way, even though the website says you can enjoy a margarita in their cocktail lounge, there is no such thing; it’s wine and beer only(and not a great beer selection at that).

I’m from Miami Florida and have a place up here and this is the best Mexican food I’ve ever had hands down. There’s places in Miami that are good but not like this. Tamales is extremely cheap and the portions are huge! Definitely recommend this place!

Tamales is a terrific local Mexican restaurant with great food at reasonable prices. The carnitas are excellent, as are the chips and salsa. They have created a cool atmosphere with a well-decorated interior. The service is friendly and prompt. Big thumbs up!

Very good Mexican fare has finally arrived in West Jefferson. Make sure to ask for the spicier salsa to go with your chips.
