I am so sad to see them close… I loved every one there. The comfort food was excellent… Best wishes Kenny, Kim and the rest of the staff. You will be missed

Rest in Peace, Zon’s. You, your mac and cheese, your ice cream sandwich dessert, your fantastic wine list, everyone who worked there and your bar will be sorely, sorely missed. Weeping, Your JP Valentine

I am so sad that Zon’s has closed! I also tried to have dinner there last night and saw that all of the lights were off and a «For Lease» sign was hanging on the window. No wonder why no one was picking up my calls. Zon’s had the BEST comfort food ever! I was crossing my fingers with hopes that they had moved, but there was no sign to be found saying so, and the website doesn’t say anything about any changes either. *sigh* I don’t know where I’ll ever get a burger as good as the Tilton Stilton with bleu-cheesy-like goodness melted and smothered over my burger and french fries or a more luxurious buttery platter of mussels with broiled garlic bread. My boyfriend sweated the shhhh out of the Mac Daddy. Zon’s, no one can do classic American comfort food as well as you, so please come back! :’(((

I wish more restaurants in JP were like Zon’s. It’s so chill, great décor, and amazing menu. The comfort food menu is so scrumptious. If you are looking for an amazing mac & cheese then head straight there! The Mac Daddy is a force to be reckoned with. The burgers are stacked, in the winter they have a to die for shepherd’s pie and the turkey meatloaf is delicious. During those blistery winter days when you are going stir crazy indoors Zon’s is a great escape. I have yet to go there during the summer, but I will be sure to hit it up again soon.

There’s something to be said about an establishment that celebrates All Hallows Eve by dressing up. I must applaud the staff with the creativity. Especially the male server who dressed up as Wendy from The Adams Family. It made me truly happy. The food here was delicious and pretty decently priced, though it was pricier than I expected. Their wine selection was pleasing(for whatever mood I was in that day) and my boyfriend enjoyed his hamburger. Its a nice little place to escape what the rest of JP feels like, with its velvet interior and their splendid music selection. I really enjoyed myself and I would recommend this place to anyone in the area.

We had a quick dinner at Zon’s while waiting for our cat to be discharged from Angell Memorial. The décor is cozy. There weren’t many people, so it felt kinda bare. The waitress was pleasant but not very attentive. I had a burger with stilton, my wife the mac and cheese. Both were excellent, although I order the burger medium rare and it arrived well done. Juicy and tasty, but still not as ordered. The fries were great — thick and well cooked. The mac and cheese was just about as good as mac and cheese can get without adding something spectacular like chunks of lobster. This is a very good place for a quiet dinner. Recommended.

I ate the best steak of my life here. Honest to god. It probably won’t be as good if you get it, But Its the best spot in jp now that Café D is gone. and its not to pricey. The burgers and mac and cheese are good to. Small but strong drink menu. If you haven’t been, Go.

The turkey burger was large, thick, and ok, but I was totally underwhelmed by the mac and cheese. I had heard this was the place to go for mac and cheese, but it was bland and un-cheesy. The place is cute, and service wasn’t bad. Maybe it was a bad night, but it was not worth the drive down to JP.

My girlfriends and I ended up at a party after we left Zon’s and, as it turned out, another group of people at the party had been there at the same time we were. They were regulars and knew the drill. When we asked what they ordered, they looked at us like the question didn’t even need to be answered. «Burgers with an ice cream sandwich to share for dessert.» Ok, so now we know. Rewind two hours: We wanted to fall in love with Zon’s. We really, really did. Everything started off great. It was a Saturday night, we were a party of three expecting a long wait, but we were seated within five minutes of walking in. Zon’s looked warm and cozy, with lighting so soft it made my friend pull out her camera when we got to our table. No matter how much she fiddled with the settings, the pictures never quite captured what we wanted. Most of the food was the same way – just not quite what we wanted. We started off with glasses of the red zongria. It sounded perfectly light and fruity when our server described it, but it was actually pretty bland and disappointing. I went with the white zongria next, which had more of a kick from the ginger beer. Things were looking up. We decided to share the mac and cheese as an appetizer, despite both the odd reaction when we ordered it(hasn’t anyone else ever done that??) and my friend’s pre-wedding diet rules. Luckily, it was much lighter than we thought(as far as mac and cheese goes), the mustard was a fun touch, and we loved the bow ties. Not our favorite mac and cheese of all time, which is what we were expecting to experience, but good enough. My girlfriends both ordered the scallops and I ordered the mushroom risotto. They both had the same reaction to theirs as they picked through the meal: «Why are the scallops this chewy? Are these even fresh?» I was planning on tasting them, but after I heard that, decided not to. My risotto was overly rich and overwhelming in general… heavy on the cheese, ultra creamy, and huge. The rabe on top was fun to mix in, but the meal basically hit my stomach like a brick and filled me up only a quarter of the way through. Between my cement stomach and my friends’ disappointment, I don’t even think any of us so much as glanced at the dessert menu afterwards. It was also one of those meals where the bill came and we were like, «REALLY?» when we saw how much it was. It just didn’t feel like we ordered that much(or that everything was SO good) for the price to be that high. So, long story short, seems like Zon’s is best for strictly comfort food, specifically a burger and an ice cream sandwich.

If you’re anywhere near JP, and it’s cold out, or you just need American comfort food… this is THE place. I’ve come several times(hey, I’m a doc student. I need lots of comfort), and I’ve never left unsatisfied. Unfortunately, I keep getting the same things. 1) The burgers. Oh my. I usually get the Tilton stilton(the stilton cheese isn’t that strong. I don’t normally like super stinky cheeses, and this cheese complements the burger very nicely). I’ve also had the turkey burger, which was very juicy(not easy with turkey). All burgers come with these amazing steak fries. For another $ 2, you can get a pot of smokey cheese fondue for the fries. It’s worth it. 2) the mac n cheese. Three varieties. Plain, with peas, and with sausage. Personally, I like the plain version best. As a general rule, I don’t like the bow-tie pasta b/c it’s hard to cook correctly, but Zon’s does a beautiful job. It’s not your momma’s mac n cheese… Zon’s uses some fancy cheeses. But they bake it. With some bread crumbs on top. And it’s sooo good and cheesy and melty. They seem to have increased the size of their menu in the last few months. More appetizers, more entrees. I’ve only had dessert here once, and it didn’t rock my socks off, but I’m not really a dessert person. Would be a nice date place, as the lighting is subdued, soft music, and atmosphere is cozy. Can always head down the street to JP Licks if you really have room for dessert.

Mmm. Comfort food in a comfortable setting. My pork was tremendous. It was the evening’s special and was cooked a bit rare. I’m always I bit nervous when I see pork cooked this way, but it was so flavorful and tender that I soon forgot about any concerns. We also ordered a half-carafe of perfectly fine house red, clam chowder(just okay), the house salad(made a bit more interesting with bit of shaved fennel), and a burger(quite a burger, though my dining companion was jealous of my delicious pork entrée). The only negative: my pork was served on a bed of pureed beans which were ice cold. They meat was warm, the wild mushrooms atop the purée were warm, everything on the plate was warm. Since they were all plated together and the plate was warm, the purée was obviously right out of a refrigerator. Maybe they prepared it earlier in the day, put it in a pan to heat it, then forgot to turn on the burner to heat and thought it was heated before plating it? I was too shy to send it back for fear that they meant to serve it that way. But it threw the entire dish off because it was very, very cold. I shoved it all aside and enjoyed the rest of the dish. Despite this aberration, I’d go back to Zon’s – and maybe work up the guts to ask about the dish if I something is off.

Being out of towners, we went here with friends who have a cheese fetish(I’m not exaggerating. They will challenge you to a cheese-eating contest if you really want). I was also watching my girlish figure and did not want to do any damage(as much as I love comfort food). So, I got a special of a deconstructed eggplant lasagna which I enjoyed immensely and had a bite or three of some mac daddy(we had gotten it for the table because our cheese-eating friends were turning up the frommage peer pressure something awful). Wow. I put on weight really quickly as a rule… but that Mac Daddy was totally worth it. Next time we’re around, we’ll have to give it a go.

Went there for the first time last night, and was totally blown away by the burger(«Tilton Stilton» I believe it was called). A gigantic perfectly cooked patty of delicious meat on a brioche bun with caramelized onions and the titular cheese. If I weren’t so stuffed from the burger I would have finished all of the fries, on which I can heartily recommend getting the fondue cheese sauce if you don’t mind dropping the extra $ 2. The staff are really friendly(one cutie waitress in particular), and the atmosphere is cozy and intimate. Three thumbs up(I found an extra one on the sidewalk on my walk from the Jackson Sq. T stop. Eek! Ghetto!). Incidentally, I’d recommend taking the Orange Line one stop further to Stony Brook and walking the extra couple of minutes to avoid SketchyTown, USA. I should add that I went there on a relatively slow night(maybe 75% of capacity), so maybe it gets swamped at full capacity, but the service was quick and attentive.

Fantasticle. Food is good, bar is good, but the best part is the people who work there. Eleanor is just about the sweetest person on earth, seriously, request her as your waitress. Winston the bartender is badass and hilarious. The regulars are a pretty good crowd too. Went there on a sweet little date and ended up having some great conversations with the people sitting around us while we all enjoyed our food, mine being the staple dish: mac & cheese with peas, along with the house beer. Felt like I was eating for hours and still couldn’t see the bottom of the dish… more than enough for lunch the next day. The house beer is perfecto. Sure, it’s a little more costly than other places in the area, but I think it’s worth it. I’ll certainly be going back there.

Sparkly lights, cozy nooks with chairs close togther, Zon’s atmosphere and delicious food is perfect for a date, an intimate conversation, or casual company when it becomes crowded and you don’t want to shout across the table. Their bar also looks inviting, should you not want dinner. They have amazingly delicious hamburgers: juicy, big portions, served on delicious homemade buns. I had the Zon’s burger: high quality ground beef with roasted tomatoes and cheddar cheese(no grease, it was great!). I recommend trying their smoky delicious sauce with the fries. Their Arugula salad with mixed berries and chevre — raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries was surprisingly delicious: who knew fruit could go so well with lettuce? This is comfort food gone classy! Service was that perfect mix of friendly but respectful(there’s nothing worse than servers who ask you how you are when a) you’re in the middle of a bite, or b) you’re in the middle of a conversation). Service is superb. Zon’s has a full bar(lit up — very pretty with), and also have good Sangria(either white or red). Prices are moderate-high, but great for the quality of the food. This is a romantic place, perfect for a casual night on the town, or a great date!

I finally tried Zon’s! I dunno what took me so long, I guess rounding the corner onto Perkins was too much for me until now. To be honest, some of the reviews on here made me expect something heart-stopping, which it wasn’t. But it was still darn good. The mac and cheese was solid, but not quite cheesy enough for me. Still, I’d go back. The prices were very reasonable for the basics, ten bucks for mac and cheese or a burger, although the lamb special was $ 35. Yikes! The atmosphere was fantastic, comfortable yet classy. The red walls and copious candles made it perfect for a date. Although, don’t hope to get all liquored up(or to get your date drunk), they do not have a full liquor license. Beer, wine and liqueurs are all they have. But they do have those gigantic glasses of UFO, yum! Our waitress was excellent, friendly without meddling, and just concerned enough. Plus, I loved her hair and skirt, it’s nice to go to a restaurant where servers are allowed to wear something besides all black. Zon’s balances a hip, fun atmosphere with romance very well, which is a rarity.

Mac and cheese, mac and cheese, mac and cheese! I looooved my mac and cheese. The beets appetizer was really good too, as were our ice cream sandwiches. My dining partners all seemed to enjoy their various burgers. They also had a unique beer menu, which I appreciated. I liked the atmosphere and vibe. One less star because I find their prices to be a liiiiittle too high and our waitress wasn’t very attentive filling our glasses of water.

I love this place. We go whenever we can, which by my estimation is not nearly enough. The food is a bit pricey but its really great. I love the mac and cheese and the burgers. They also usually have really good specials. I have never had a bad meal here. Zon’s is great for a date night or if you are entertaining out of towner’s.

WOW! That’s what comes immediately to mind when I think of Zon’s. I’d been maybe once prior, but went early last night(6p) with a group of 10. OMG! The SIRLOINMEATLOAF will make you«slap somebody», it’s so good. The sides were deliciously done –sour cream mashed potatoes, and glazed baby carrots with the little stems on. HEAVENLY! I had two rum and cokes, and can I just tell you that these were NOT wimpy drinks, they were kickin’! I want so badly to try their famous Mac&Cheese, but I keep getting distracted by other yummies on their menu. Service was nice, friendly, and attentive. I know that the place gets incredibly crowded on weekend nights, I mean it seats all of about 30 people. So, either go early, or bring a book and be prepared to wait. It’s well worth it, though!
