I recently went to an Italian night at Aurum. The Chef made a traditional 5 course authentic Italian meal from scratch. Everything from the homemade bread, Pasta and Marinara to the amazing Chicken Saltimbocca was delicious. This restaurant is one of Jamaica plains little hidden gems. My husband and I went on a double date with another couple that are VERY snobby foodies, and they also thought the food was outstanding! The ambiance was very laid back with old Dean Martin classics playing in the background. The owners and chefs were very attentive to our needs and made our evening a very pleasant one. I hope to go to EVERY Italian dinner event that Aurum organizes in the future.

Service is not over the top. Coffee is a bit overpriced for what it is, but their chocolate shake is properly made and reasonably priced! When it’s not busy the place is good to sit and work/read

Delicious! So many options, and you usually can’t go wrong. I am very happy to have this little restaurant nearby for those nights I do not want to cook. I’m a fan of the Whiskey River, the Chicken Parm, and the Itzi.

I usually get the rice bowls or salad and my partner gets the pies. We are never let down. I think the food is great quality for the price. Extremely hearty and inventive, yummy ingredients(kale, goat cheese, olives). Very cute seating for casual bites to eat. They offer delivery and take out, too. Recommend calling ahead to order. This is a small business and sometimes they can get backed up! If you’re in JP check it out!

These pies are pretty HANDY. GETIT? HANDY?! FORYOURHANDS?! Easy to eat because you are born with the utensils you need for them. We got the Beast of Burden and the Itzi, both V-V-V GOOD.

This is what lunch is supposed to be. And breakfast. Amazing meat pies, great juice and flavorful inventive sides. Great for take out or to dine in. If you are looking for a break from sandwiches subs and pizza, this is your spot in JP.

A B+ at worst, and frequently an A+. Flavors are amazing. Service is a challenge and they work their butts off to do it right. I usually order delivery and it’s frequently on time, if not early. The tastiness + convenience has resulted in my gf and I to ordering a few times a month!

Visited there for take-out recently and got the Famah pie. Delicious and easy to eat while driving(which was a plus at the time). Totally going to visit again to sample some of their other vegetarian offerings!

So I can only speak to the quality of their food since we grabbed carry out, but what Aurum offers is, for the most part, pretty good. For our meal, we gathered a mix of vegetarian bowls(the Farmstand and Purple Haze), a Fattoush salad, and some beet chips and fried cauliflower. Just to spice things up too, I asked for a little extra garlic aioli on the side. By far the best part of the meal were the vegetarian bowls, with the Farmstand standing(pun intended? I don’t know) out in particular. The salad was a little underwhelming and not the freshest, but that may have been because they added lemon juice beforehand and it was several minutes elapsed from carrying out to serving. The beet chips were great, but the cauliflower unfortunately wasn’t(was really looking forward to them). The aioli was, unfortunately, nothing special and not terribly garlic either. Bummer On the whole, though, it was a good and very tasty meal for 3 at a great price, which is enough to merit this 4 star rating in my eyes.

Super yummy and fast delivery to forest hills despite it being on the outskirts of their delivery area! We got 2 pie meals(Whiskey River and Chix pArm) with fries(+ a juice and a milkshake) and they really hit the spot. The food was hot and delicious, filling without being greasy or too heavy. Highly recommend. I wish I could have it for lunch again today!

I wanted to try this place for a while but always ended up going somewhere else… Last weekend I finally stoped here and tried their pies! Man, that was good!!! The breakfast classic(egg and cheese) is something out of this world!!! I don’t know what type of dough they use but it’s freaking awesome!!! Nice service, friendly staff, cute ambiance, lots of seating(bar stools and tables) and reasonable price! My fav place for breakfast in JP!

The only disappointing aspect of this place is that I’m only just finding out about it now. I will say you guys are doing your restaurant-front all wrong! I’ve walked and driven by numerous times and never been swayed to go inside. I guess that’s why they say never judge a book by it’s cover. I’ve even before looked quickly on Unilocal to see what this place was about, but took til yesterday to really give it a chance. Not even sure your Unilocal page does you guys justice. American — Traditional? Not the best description. My friend and I were walking down Center St. complaining about how JP needs some little spot with juices and salads. We looked at Aurum from across the street and imagined a sit down American or maybe Italian fancy little place and kept on walking. When we got home, still hungry, I decided to look up the menu on Foodler before succumbing to some other restaurant for delivery. Juices? Salads? And nutella/banana pie for dessert?! Have I been living under a rock? Granted I can’t comment on the restaurant atmosphere or service — the delivery got here in just about 30 minutes, the food portions were huge for reasonable $$, and it was all so good. I’ll be a regular for sure. Starting today with a juice after my run. Hope you guys stick around for awhile!

It is 94 degrees outside and must be 110 degrees inside. Not only does the staff walk around like zombies, they don’t even grunt. As I sit here with my wife and daughter… two ordered food and one person is eating. The girl just walked up and gave my wife my daughters food and walked off without an explanation as to why they didn’t even take down her order. Typical crap Boston service. Horrible. And how can people eat while staring at a nasty picture of a wrinkled up belly button on the wall in a feigned attempt at art?

What a little treasure on Centre St in JP! This place got overlooked by moi until I read about them in Boston Magazine. Since them, I’ve been twice! Service: Always super friendly. Takes time to bake pies fresh so you won’t be out there in 2 min but it’s worth the wait! Pies: Dessert nutella and banana is to die for. So good. I also had their gyro special which was cooked to perfection, as well as a pie with carne asada and a swell combination of ingredients/spices. Ambiance: Café cute. Free wifi. Clean, modern and a great place to work after you fill up on a pie. Go!!!

Having passed by this place countless times, I decided to give it a try. I ordered a pie that consisted of goat cheese, shallots, spinach and sweet potatoes(the Fahmah). I’m not crazy about sweet potatoes but the girl working there recommended that one since I’m veg. I also ordered the carrot fritters and the sticky fried dough poppers. My pie had way too much goat cheese and it just made me feel like I ate a baby after eating it, kind of how Chipotle makes me feel. The fritters and fried dough were delicious, but not something I would probably order again since fried food is the worst, but so good! Best part, all of that for $ 25!

Food lovers on a budget rejoice, as this place offers amazing food at a steal. Great vegetarian and omnivore offerings. The portions are generous, and the prices are easy of the wallet. The quality is top notch, even on a quiet night. Definitely a hidden gem– we almost walked right by it! Swayed in by a living social coupon, it became clear to us that this would be a favorite place to visit sans coupon. And, they deliver. Very friendly service, lovely quiet atmosphere– the snowy evening made for a really nice, casual date. You know you’ve found a new favorite when as you walk out, you’re already planning your return trip and what you’ll order.

Okay, this review is LONG overdue but I can’t contain it any longer. My first visit here was in the fall since I recently moved to the JP area in September. My friends and I decided to duck in since it’s right around the corner from one of my friend’s apartments. Needless to say, we were instantly hooked. There’s no going back for me now. There are so many positives to this place that I don’t even know where to start, honestly! For one, I’ve been there maybe a total of 4 or 5 times now, and I’m quite sure I’ve met a new person working the front counter each time. Every single employee I’ve met is SO friendly — it’s extremely refreshing. I come from a very, very small town so, since moving to the city, I’ve come to expect people to be rather abrasive instead of overly friendly. Fortunately, Aurum gave me back my small-town feel and I’m so happy to have found that. On to the food. I truly don’t think you can go wrong with anything you choose! I’ve only tried their pies, and as a creature of habit, I typically stick to «The Shroom» which is a breakfast pie. It is AMAZING! All the flavors are perfect and, though some people complain the pies have too much bread, it doesn’t tend to be too much at all except for the ends — but you can’t help that. The other pies I’ve tried are absolutely delicious as well, and my friends have branched out to the rice bowls and LOVED them as well. I’ll end this rant with their Cauliflower Carrot Fritters… seriously, never had more of an OMG moment than with these. I’m obsessed. Seriously, I dream about these. They’re perfectly crisp on the outside and the flavor is out of this world. I’m not kidding, I could probably eat at least 20 of these in one sitting(yeah.I’m disgusting, it’s fine). The garlic aioli that comes with them is also extremely good and I usually have some left over which I tend to save and use with other things. Delicious! I love Aurum so much that I trekked out in Blizzard Juno to get my Aurum fix… And you know what? They gave me some delicious, FREE coffee for it!

Wow. I tried Aurum for the first time tonight, and my only regret is every other day of my life that I haven’t eaten there. There is nothing about this place that is not amazing, so I’ll go through a couple of different aspects of my experience to give you a general idea of why I liked it so much. First, the food and the price. I’d never had anything quite like their pies, but the best approximation I can offer is something of a combination of a calzone and croissant. The pies are large — one should be enough unless you’re really, really hungry — but modestly priced at $ 6.99. For $ 9.99, you can add a side and a drink, and this is a great deal. I added fries, which were crispy, flavorful, and not greasy, and a seltzer bottle, a nice alternative to the Coke/Diet Coke/Sprite combos found most everywhere else. My fiancée opted for the deep fried cauliflower, which she gave high marks. I ordered the Whiskey River pie, which consists of cheddar, grilled chicken, red onion, BBQ sauce, and I think one other ingredient, although I could be mistaken. Second, the restaurant itself. There’s not a lot of seating, but between the counter space and the several tables the room can probably sit 20 patrons. You order at the counter, and they bring the food out. The dining room was clean, appropriately lit, and tastefully decorated. Really the kind of comfortable, welcoming, but informal atmosphere that best suits this type of food and neighborhood. There’s no beer or wine available, but they’re in the process of applying for a license. In the meantime, you can order takeout and run across the street to the Behan. Overall, Aurum is a real five star gem in a neighborhood with too many overrated eateries. The food was delicious, the space was very nice, and the price was right. In a city without good sandwich rolls to be found, the pies are your best bet for sandwich type grub. I’ll be back at least weekly to indulge.

I’ve been interested in trying out Aurum’s pies ever since I first heard of it. But opportunity did not knock until several things were aligned: 1) I was going to be in the neighborhood, 2) I was going to be wanting lunch, and 3) Aurum was participating on one of those deal sites. And so I answered! However, it seems the stars were aligned in more ways than that triple play, as Aurum may have happily worked out their kinks in time for my visit. Based on the reviews of the Unilocalers who preceded me, their dough to filling ratio may have since improved, as I did not get mouthfuls of bread in the corners, and the side that comes as part of the $ 9.99 Pie/Side/Soda meal deal is now smaller than when ordered a la carte(3 pieces vs 6 – 7 for the Crispy Cauliflower Carrot Fritters, as I was informed). On my way in, I spied their board outside heralding a pie made of seasoned ground pork, sweet potato, shallots, and smooth goat cheese. Sounded good to me! So I went with the meal combo made up of the Shepherd’s Pie, Cauliflower Carrot Fritters, and Polar Root Beer. And to use the rest of my voucher, I added on their Fried Dough Cinnamon Poppers dessert $ 4.99. I made myself comfy at one of their 4 tables set for 4(they also had two seats at the counter by the window) and made use of their free wi-fi(with password) to while away the time. Perhaps they prepare their menu items to order, as it was 15 minutes till my food was brought over. My pocket was cut in two, but as a triangle measured perhaps 7.5 inches to a side. The ground meat was a bit of a mess to eat as it fell out freely when I cut at it with knife and fork, but was much easilier managed once I picked it up to eat. I would have preferred a greater veggie to meat ratio as the pork tended to overwhelm the flavors of each bite, but that’s me. The bread was tasty, but appropriately did not steal the show from the filling. My side of choice — the Crispy Cauliflower Carrot Fritters — numbered 3 in approximately golf ball sized lumps. Crisp on the outside, soft and hot within. Though the Banana & Nutella pie $ 4.99 called my name, I’m glad I went with the Fried Dough Cinnamon Poppers. They were addictive as advertised by the staffer who was manning the front of house that day. They arrived as a mound of rounded pieces of dough garnished with a cinnamon sauce and dusted with powdered sugar. Super shareable! Though presumably made of the same dough, somehow these were still a different creature from the bread of my triangular lunch. And I loved the chew. Breakfast pies are available all day. Their bathroom is tiny. Bust your own table and take your dishes to the counter when you’re done. They now offer waffles on weekends from 10am-2pm. But the syrup I spotted in the back at Aurum wasn’t the real stuff. *** visit #2 *** Picked up the Banana & Nutella pie $ 4.99 to go. Ate it another day after a long leisurely rebaking all covered up with foil. The crust got a nice crisp. They were generous with both the banana and Nutella. And oh, the fragrance was wondrous on the ride home. *** visit #32⁄2015 *** Parking’s a bit tough currently with all this snow that’s hit Boston since late mid-January. But I got lucky. Their meal deal, however, is now a little less of a deal with the recent 50 cent price change to $ 10.49 from the former $ 9.99. With the price of their pie staying steady at $ 6.99, that’s now $ 3.50 for a soda and a half portion of one of their $ 4.99(or $ 3.99) sides. I decided to try their The Farmstead Vegetarian Bowl $ 9.99(kale, broccoli, red pepper, red onion, and roasted garlic soy sauce with brown rice), and memories of their Fried Dough Cinnamon Poppers $ 4.99 proved strong so I ordered one of those as well. The rice bowl had an acceptably healthy ratio of veggies to rice and the pieces were good sized. Cooked just right, they retained a decent bite, with the exception of the broccoli which was sadly soft. As a whole though it was a bit too salty and wasn’t the best of flavorings. As for the poppers, it arrived a shadow of its past self. Rather than poppers, they were more like tidbits. While the dough pieces retained the nice chew I remembered, the pieces were quite small and were missing their cool and tempting curves, but rather simply sat flat and listless in a pile. I’m moving down a star to 3.

The place isn’t inexpensive, but it’s not unreasonable either given the amazing quality. We are vegetarians and their veggie pies are absolutely delicious! The Nutella banana desert is also fantastic. The staff is kind and everything was running very smoothly given they opened up pretty recently. Be warned, there are only 5 tables, but completely worth any wait! The meat pies smelled incredible as well-I must admit ;)
