Nice service and quiet atmosphere. Really great beer. Would go back again. Anxious to try the peanut butter stout.

Pizza here is usually pretty good, but a recent take-out order experience was marred by the owner giving me a hard time about using a coupon. He needs to revise the fine print on his offer if he only wants to honor them for dine-in. I don’t appreciate being treated like I’m trying to cheat them.

This is a great little pub. I love their pizza and the service has been good the 2 times I’ve been here. If you want a pizza while out, this low-key pub is the place to go.

I used to order the Chicken Philly sub all the time. I guess the cook changed since the last time I ordered. This one came with onions without asking. The sub roll was cut completely in half with VERY small diced chicken pieces. You can imagine the task it is to pick up such an assembled sub. No seasoning what-so-ever; unless you count the free and unwanted onions. The only plus I can offer is the delivery driver was very nice.

Great, and I mean great, pizza plus brews made on the premises add up to a terrific place to try.

Stopped in on a Sunday Funday during football season. Great place to catch a game. Wonderful beer and the Speidie wings are THEBEST wings I’ve ever had, and I eat a lot of wings. Definitely recommended.

Stars based largely on beer quality… Not good. Decent place, nice people, calzones were good, but the beer was quite sub par. I had an IPA that tasted nothing like an IPA, no hop flavor whatsoever. The lager tasted like a Rauchbier, with no mention of smokey character. Pretty disappointing. If this was just a pizza joint I’d give them four stars, but as a brewery, there’s room for improvement.

First the good. The spicy sausage and mushroom pizza was great! The beer is horrible. Not brewed to style at all. Not even close with the hefeweizen and bock. Horrible… horrible beers. Utterly nasty. Worst than most first attempts at home brew. The IPA was… drinkable barely. The staff could care less. A guy was asleep in the middle of the place. All the people at the bar were drinking Bud/miller/coors. Avoid unless you are already drunk and want some greasy pizza.

Wish I could give this brewery more than 2 stars because the owner/brewer was very nice. However the place was dirty(cleanliness is next to Godliness when brewing beer) and most of the beer very ordinary. The red ale was off with a medicinal aftertaste. Double bock was good. Wouldn’t use the restroom because of the overall air of uncleanliness.

Pizzas are great. The service was a bit slow and they ran out if dishes. Once we get service the waitress was great. Enjoying open mike was another plus to stopping in.

A nice little micro brewery with good pizza and calzones. It’s short staffed sometimes but people are really nice. Check out the live jazz and rock music evenings. They also have a karaōke night if you are into that kind of thing. Highly recommend the hot wings. Definitely the best calzones in town!

Best deal for cold beer and good food! 2 pints and a dozen wings, or small pizza, 10 bucks! And they have goldfish for snacks at the bar. You can’t go wrong!

A really neat off the beaten path brew pub. The beer(I had a red) was served in a frosted mug. The calzone was crisp on the outside and stuffed with sausage and cheese — plenty of mozzarella but short on ricotta. The calzone was enormous and really good. The people next to me got a pizza that looked amazing. Give this place a try.

This is a very friendly place. It’s not immediately obvious, but the«brew pub» is actually just a craft brewery/pub attached to a pizzeria. You can either sit on the bar side or sit on the pizzeria side. The pizzeria makes the normal stuff, including quite a few varieties of calzone. They are tasty and fresh, and priced right. They deliver as well. The beer is pretty good. They were out of the red ale when we stopped in(seems to be a theme looking at the other reviews) so I tried the bock and my wife tried the pilsner. There is some creativity evident and the brews are tasty enough. They don’t hit a home run, but I’d rate the bock as a 3 on a 5-point scale. The bar side is run by a great guy who we got to meet and chat with for a while. We came in at lunch time but he informed us of the various events and live music they have. We’ll definitely return for jazz on Sundays or possibly open-mic night.

The house beers are great here, and if you don’t like them they carry an assortment of other craft beers and domestic beers as well. The food here is great — some of the best pizza in Tompkins county, great wings, burgers, salads, subs, calzones. Something for everyone and reasonably priced Plus Karaōke every Wednesday night in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. No pressure to be perfect, just have fun. And the host is fair in his rotation, giving everyone a chance to sing

I love micro brew pubs and whenever I travel I try to drink local. So, when visiting my in-laws for Christmas I found my way into the Scale House to grab some home brewed beers before dinner. Seeing that they usually have only three types of beer I ordered their Pilsner and my brother-in-law got their dark Bock. I would have ordered their red ale but they were sold out. My Pilsner tasted like water. Sure. There was a hint of hoppiness and evidence that fermentation did actually occur, but for the most part it was just slightly carbonated yellow water with particles of little somethings floating on the bottom of my glass. Not good. I tasted my brother-in-law’s Bock and it was better with some darker tones and flavor but it still wasn’t anything great. In fact even though we had 40 minutes to kill before we had to head back home we just nursed our sad beers and had no longing to order a second round. Add in the odd assortment of art school student painted murals of fruit bowls, wolves, and waterfalls I had to look at, and the tacky and dirty holiday table clothed tables where I had to rest my arms, and I really have no reason to come back here. It’s too bad. Their website is top notch and their food menu looks promising but this is one local mirco brew pub I will not be coming back to the next time I’m visiting family.

Good beer, hand crafted and brewed right at this location. Now when I’m in Ithaca, I always stop at the Ithaca Beer Company on Elmira and sample all the beers fresh from the tap. But when I’m up for a meal with my brews the Scale House is the place in Ithaca. I belly up to the bar and order a pale ale and take a few sips and savor the flavors that Bud and Coors just can’t ever produce. Then I get up and cross the imaginary line in the floor and wonder over to Northeast pizza and order a slice or two of their bar pie with black olives and xtra cheese. A few minutes later my slices are delivered by one of the Cornell or Ithaca College students who work here. The slices are piping hot and not at all like that thin pizza you get in the city, these slices are thick and chewy with an acidity/sweet/garlic-y sauce with mellow but flavorful melted cheese that tastes more like a blend of whole milk mozzarella, provolone, and perhaps a bit of munster or brick cheese for added richness. The black olives add just the perfect amount of salt and brine to round out these flavorful slices of pure pizza perfection. The pale ale is a perfect beer to accompany the grease from the cheese. When in Ithaca, eat where the brainy Cornell students eat and imbibe and that’s at the Scale House Brewery located in a tiny shopping center behind a rundown hotel off Tripphammer road just past the Tripphammer Mall. Enjoy!
