Stopped in for a quick work lunch the other day and had the macaroni and cheese, with added pulled pork on top. The macaroni itself was ok, the pork definitely added extra flavor it needed. I ordered the lunch portion which was reasonably priced and sized perfectly. We were the only ones in the whole place though, which I found odd since it was prime lunch time.

Stopped in here the other day for lunch. Very nice staff and excellent food. They only gave us the lunch menu, which had limited options, but our waiter didn’t mind asking the kitchen if they could make me a crab cake«burger». The sweet potato fries were GREAT! Never had anything like them before. They were seasoned with cinnamon! MmmMmm. Will definitely be going back!

If you come here just get a beer, don’t waste your time eating. Many better options within walking distance. Ordered the fish and chips which were at best decent and super greasy, but edible. The other dish was one of the restaurants«specialties», Mac and cheese, I’ve had better mac and cheese out of a velveta box, but I digress. The Mac and cheese was bland at best. Do yourself a favor and go someplace else!

I don’t understand what everyone is talking about… Our waitress was a doll, so nice, but the food was close to inedible. They were out of 2 of the items we wanted to order and my husbands food was overcooked to the point of rubber. The buns on our sandwiches were stale. There’s more but why go on… Sorry, thumbs down from us.

When I get a craving for a nice, juicy cheeseburger, I don’t have time for anything mediocre. Port Royal Grille is a place that I can depend on. The service here is absolutely up to par, and the variety of dishes to try is impressive. Port Royal Grille is the place to be. There’s no doubt about that!

This past Friday was my second trip to PR. First was a couple of years ago — only memory from first trip are large portions of mac and cheese. Went with family at 5:00, we were the first in the dining area, one person at bar. Drink order was taken, and the waitress dropped the tray. It happens — not a big deal, however, this is where it gets weird. The floor was already very sticky — far too sticky for this early in a shift, in an empty restaurant. The waitress came back with paper towels to pick up two spilled beers and some juice. I subtly suggested perhaps a mop was in order, and it finally came out. We decided to move tables to get out of the way, etc. Ordered our food. Menu okay. Fried calamari appetizer(most of it was great — a bit greasy on the bottom, but overall, very good), wife order steak sandwich, i ordered burger, kids got quesadilla and a burger. We ordered three total beers, and two kids drinks. Now it gets interesting. Before our food arrived, the experience was such that we knew we would not be returning. Then a 6 top came in, and right before, in their very small dining area, someone comes in and uses one of those aerosol cleaning solutions on a table within 5 feet from my family, while we are eating our food. It seems like the staff was there with no training. Both myself and my wife spent years working in a restaurant — many of our observations come from experience, as well as common sense. Between the way the spill was handled(already on a sticky floor), the way the table was cleaned with diners in the restaurant, the dirty bathroom(how about a coat of paint on that men’s door? Very cheap solution to improve your diners experience), it seemed like a headless staff. My wife’s steak sandwich was tough, and inedible. She only ate two bites, and didn’t touch the rest. She ordered sweet potato fries, and enjoyed them. My bun was stale. Not toasted, it was stale. Burger tasted great. Too bad. The sad thing is, based on how disorganized and not professional the staff was, i feared that if I sent my food back, it would come back to me after a short trip on the floor, or something along those lines. I must say, though, that my waitress was very nice, and meant well the whole time. I can’t blame her for the lack of protocol. Even after buying back one of the beers that spilled on my arm, the bill was $ 75. This is way to expensive to charge for food that is not cared for. Looking at previous posts, the owner or manager seems to read and comment on reviews. If this happens here, please, before you choose to comment, read my comments about other LI restaurants. I am fair and consistent in my reviews, as well as honest. There is a feeling that one gets in Port Royal that can be improved with a number of very simple detail checking.

Ah The Port Royal. The Port Royal serves real food. Real food. Please don’t compare this restaurant to the chains(Buffalo Wild Wings??? Red Lobster??? please) Not even in the same galaxy. If you’re expecting over preserved flounder and fake vegetables you’re in the wrong place. They serve the BEST sweet potato fries in the universe. Always serve ice cold beer. Okay so the faux pirate theme may turn some people off. Big deal. I’ve ordered the ½ rack of ribs, mac n cheese, grilled chicken sandwich, chicken fingers, cole slaw, beans… all excellent.

My friend Michael was mesmerized by this place during our sloppy night out in Islip. We had a beer to check it out that night and we promised to go back. So, two weeks later, the masters of craft beer have returned. We walk in and fight the urge to sit by the bar. Between us, I think Mike did not want to leave the pub hanging off my shoulder(It’s not cute, trust me). Once we sit down and look at the menu, everything started to make sense. He orders a set of stormy wings and mac and cheese with pulled pork on top. As we wait for the food, we start off with a classic Blue Point Toasted. Shortly after, we pick up the pace with a Great South Bay Massive IPA. Through my trials and tribulations, I have become a tough beer connoisseur with the alcoholic tolerance to win beer pong championships. Without the craft beer, I do not think we would have ventured into Main Street. Why go so far if Buffalo Wild Wings has projectors and unique specials? The platter would be one reason. Our outgoing waitress brought us our platter of mac and cheese. This platter is more than enough for the both of us. Sharing the food makes us feel comfortable enough to enjoy our wings as well. If you wanted to check this place out, I would bring a crew and take over the bar. The music and bartenders sync for a contemporary feel good outing.

The atmosphere, beer selection and menu options are awesome. We ordered baked clams, fried shrimp, a cheeseburger and the mac and cheese with pulled pork. The baked clams had no flavor at all and were very very dry. They were also lacking clam. I think I had one tiny piece in each clam. They were very disappointing. I also didn’t like that I had to ask for lemon. Seafood is suppose to come with lemon. The fried shrimp was good. Wasnt over cooked at all. The burger was massive. The cook definitely had a heavy hand with the salt. Sadly I couldnt even eat half of it due to this. I would definitely go back for the mac and cheese alone though. It was amazing. Great flavor. We got it with pulled pork on top and the pork was delicious.

We had a great time at Port Royal Grille. Three friends and I went there on a whim after we realized that the great Adam Richman, from Man vs Food, had been there. The place has a dark-pub feel to it which we loved, and the service was phenemonal. The Assistant Manager(I think that was his title) came over and talked to us about the Daveys Locker challenge that another table was doing, and he pretty much narrated it along with us as we watched. We want to come back to do the challenge, and it was exciting to watch another table try to do it(unsuccessfully, the guy had no strategy). The food we had was stellar, everyone was impressed –and we made sure to tip the Assistant Manager well, in addition to the waiter, for being so hospitable. (Oh, some other reviewer posted that he hated driving out to Long Island. You and the rest of the world buddy but it has nothing to do with this excellent restaurant.)

When this place first opened it was great big portions of food freshly cooked seafood for a great price you couldn’t ask for more. Since they’ve changed cooks/wait staff it’s been down hill. Last time I got a steak sandwich and ended up getting food poisoning need I say more?

*This is directed at William the owner* You are at mercy of your over opinionated and reckless diners huh? I gave this place a second chance because you commented on my first review and it seemed like things had changed from when I visited from a few years ago. I go to Popeie’s in Deer Park, PJ Lobster House in Port Jeff, Joes Crab Shack, and the Maine Avenue Fish market in DC all frequently for seafood. Whether its family owned, a chain, or just a outdoor fish market they all gave excellent food including sides, reasonable pricing, and great service. Joe’s and Red Lobster maybe chain restaurant’s but they still provide great food. If I didn’t have an opinion I wouldn’t have reviewed and visited your restaurant a second time. This is Unilocal,if you can’t handle your«overly opinionated» customers either ignore the reviews or listen to them. I’ve given 1 to 2 stars to restaurant’s and the owner’s not only messaged me to come back but they’ve offered free meals. Even Pinkberry took the time to contact me and offer my workplace a whole free order next time due to their poor delivery service. If I was a real ass I would downgrade the rating to a 1.

I HATE driving out to Long Island. Will avoid it at any cost. However, on April 1st I was tricked, lied to & kidnapped & brought out here for dinner. Well… I guess I forgot it was April fool’s day! duh! Reason? My friends had heard about the seafood special challenge that was featured on Man vs. Food so the boys in the group wanted to have that. After close to 2 hrs of driving we get here, settle in & start browsing the menu. The Davey Jones Locker was first of all WAY too much food, not everyone in the group of 7 wanted to eat the stuff listed in it, meant to be shared by 4 – 6 people & had a sharing charge(which is silly considering it’s meant to be shared-what is the extra charge for?) so we eventually didn’t even have this. We started with The Seven Sea Sampler, got the Southwestern Mac & Cheese and Lobster Man & Cheese for side dishes. Everything good so far, the Mac and cheese was really gooooood. For entrees we had on the table: Grilled shrimp with corn, Fish and chips, Twin stuffed Flounder, Crab Cake Sandwich, Veggie sandwich. Everyone was happy with their food, it was quite tasty. The place was fairly empty as it was a early Monday evening. Our server was very friendly & sweet, service was good. Over all the experience was fine.

The upside: the portions are big and the beer selection is good. The downside: The food in those big portions is not good. We tried this place twice, once dining in and once taking out. We wound up throwing out half the takeout because it was inedible. The wings were rubbery and not well cooked. We had a coupon and even then, felt like we overpaid for what we got. Never again.

A bit pricy, everything cost a buck or two more than it should. Port Royal Grille doesn’t seem like it knows what it wants to be.. . is it a pirate themed seafood place? Is it a pub with a sit down dining room? Do they want us to glutton out with the Davy Jones challenge? if so, they should put on the menu! Food was decent, service lacking. Management didn’t seem to care. Seafood sampler app was weak. Burger didn’t come out made as stated on Menu, after inquiry, they said they don’t make it that way anymore(in their defense, they offered to make me something else, but in the end I was fine with what I got). Lobster Newberg Mac and Cheese was great. They make their own fries. A OK.

I bagged another«Man vs. Food» place. Ever since my son saw this episode, he’s wanted to go try it. I finally did a business trip nearby, and talked my colleagues,(the Global Master Consultant from Munch and the BMW coach who drives BMWs) into trying this place. Servings are HUGE. We left quiet a bit of food after our best efforts. Its a warm, dark pub off the main drag. They have a wide selection of Burgers, Sandwiches, and no less than 12 different Mac and Cheese dishes. Lots of BBQ selections and combos! Soup — Lobster chowder. A small cup of creamy, lobstery chowder with a nice, thinner consistency and a good balanced taste. 3.5 stars. Mac N Cheese — order the Lobster and seafood Newburgh Mac N Cheese. Incredible. Nice chunks of Lobster, little bay scallops with a white Newburgh sauce mixed into cheddary Macaroni. Huge serving! A tad pricey at $ 19, but I must. 4 – 45 stars Combo Dinner: Grilled Shrimp and ½ rack of pork ribs. The ribs were surprisingly good. The BBQ glaze was tasty, tangy and sweet. The meat was a little dry. Generous serving with choice of 2 sides — 4 stars. The waitress was very cheerful, pleasant and helpful, though she was a bit scare, since she doubled as the bar tender. 3.5 stars If I’m every in the area again, I’ll come back.
