I figured I’d give them another try today. I just called to order and asked if they had medium shrimp. I was told that they are all small, there is no medium. I asked how much the shrimp was and was told the same price. So basically they are selling small shrimp for the medium price. When I asked about the price, she said that’s what they pay… ??? Very sad this place has gotten skimpy!

I have been looking for a great fish market to replace Bates – I have found it at Family Fish – its even better. The fillet of sole was seasoned and fried to perfection as were the hush puppies. I am a big fan and will be back often, especially during Lent.

Been going here since 2011. Even though they changed owners we still kept coming back because the fish was seasoned good. Recently the size of the pieces of fish has gotten extremely small. Since we are a faithful customer we called to complain — they said they would do our dinner order for free the next time(also complained one time prior to that because the fish didn’t taste right — found out they gave us frozen fish). A few weeks later we called to order some fish & take advantage of our order do-over. We were told that they would give us the«free order» but that they would not make any other fish for us because«we complain too much». I said I wanted to pay for the other fish dinner but the owner said she would not make anymore fish for me because she did not want me to complain anymore. I told her that since we had been coming for so many years we wanted to give them feedback & we did not understand why the pieces of fish were so small now. It seems like we ordered the French fries as our main entrée with a side order of fish. The owner said«the price of fish keeps going up so we have to cut the pieces smaller that we give our customers.» Clearly it would be better to keep the same quality/size of pieces of fish & just charge higher prices. These people know nothing about customer service. Over the years we’ve spent around $ 500 a year with them. I will no longer patronize this establishment. No sense in being a loyal customer when the business does not value that loyalty or appreciate it. I will spend my money elsewhere.

I Absolutely Love This Place! I Live Over An Hour Away From Family Fish Market, But Whenever I’m In Los Angeles I Make It A Point To Stop By. Their Fried Oysters Are My Personal Favorite. They Aren’t Extremely Hard Like Most Places, Nope, These Are Perfect!

The food is so great. I just found this place cause I usually go to the family fish in Carson so when I found out that there was one closer to my house, I got so excited, no more going all the way to Carson for my favorite fish place.

I went to order my usual filet of sole and a side last night … I routinely SELECT my pieces(because honestly some pieces don’t look as fresh)… I was told by RUDE proprietor that I had to order a minimum ½ pound … Since when ?? I ALWAYS order how few or many pieces that I want and pay frying fee. … I politely walked out and won’t be patronizing this place anymore … You’re not going to make up rules and be RUDE !!! Girl bye … It’s other«fresh» fish markets that I will patronize …

I like the fish because it is fresh not frozen and it is seasoned well. I just don’t like the long wait. But I will wait because it is well worth it.

So, I’ve been coming here for years and never reviewed this place… why? O_o So, Family Fish has the best fish in the area… well-seasoned and crispy. Seriously, it’s really good. Today’s fish for us is sole and shrimp, along with hush puppies. I would seriously recommend everyone in the area try the fish here at least once. And their sides are pretty awesome also. The only thing for me is the hot sauce; I prefer Louisiana style with that vinegary feel, but to each his own. Maybe I’ll get some tonight. :P

The draw? Unilocalers’ reviews. Also, that they shared the namesake of the very best fish place in L.A.(which happens to be in Carson, CA). I was wondering if they were related. They’re not. I’m still a fan, but if in the neighborhood, I’d prefer York & Orleans’ version. Meanwhile, I LOVE the fact that I could see their selections and order online. All within a minute(twaddling between Basi and Catfish), done. I picked it up on the way to another job location and ate in the car(see pics). Two tartar sauces(that I didn’t want), two hot sauces(that if I was doing anything besides car eating, would have made me mad by the teaser sizes), and two ketchups. The fish was seasoned well, and crispy where it should have been, and fresh/flaky elsewhere. The fries looked good, but were not worth the calories. The onion rings tasted straight from the freezer. Nice try.

Highly recommended! Excellent customer service, not to mention the fact that you can smell the aroma of deliciousness from the moment you walk through the door. I always go for the shrimp special.

It was a night when I was starving and I wanted something quick and tasty. So I went on my trusty Unilocal! With 4.5 stars I had to try it out! The service was great and with my 160pcs fish and 5pcs shrimp order done in 15 minutes I scored, big time!

I absolutely CANNOT believe I’ve passed this place so many times without trying it. Last week, my wife and I were in the mood for lunch but it was just too hot to try and prepare something hearty to eat in the kitchen. So we decided to try this place out to see how it was. BESTDECISIONEVER!!! The fish and shrimp were fried and breaded in corn meal to perfection, the fries & hush puppies were fantastic, but the most surprising thing was that the wait time was a lot shorter than expected. The few cons were that parking isn’t that great and also the customer service(although not bad) pales in comparison with other establishments. Place your focus on the food and you’ll leave here a happy camper.

I have been buying fish from Family fish for the past 9 yrs. Their fish is always fresh and so tasty. They have a Large selection of available fish. I usually order the 8 piece fish and 40 shrimp combo. Customer service is always so pleasant.

I ordered from this fish market since their opening. There was a time when I ordered their food every Friday and Saturday. I noticed a change where the prices went up and the fish pieces got smaller. Today, I ordered the lunch combo with 2 pieces of fish and 6 shrimps, fries, salad and bread. The shrimps were extremely small and made up of mostly batter. I still enjoy their food and will continue purchasing from them.
