I have an odd obsession with this places. It’s kinda dark. Kinda weird. And kinda feels like I’m partying in someone’s basement. But I keep coming back. They always have live music and can sometimes require a $ 5 cover charge. The kitchen is open really late which is awesome. I drunkenly called two weeks ago because my fave bar caddy corner closes their kitchen at midnight and the guy offered to keep the fryers on and read me off items on the menu he could make me… As a drunk hungry girl… I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me Cajun dry rub chicken wings at 2:30am. Love Mousetrap!

I love Hyryder so much that I drive all the way from Cleveland Ohio to this venue! They always have the best bands, the best food and I love their outdoor patio! Especially when the hot dog lady is there!

Always great music and kind crowds. The staff is friendly and they’ve got a huge selection of bourbon. They are well-known for their delicious stews too.

Sort of a hole in the wall place but as far as I know from the 5 or so times I’ve been here it’s a popular little stop here in Indy. Great service, can get noisy, can be a slow and easy time to get to on the weekdays if you’re not a fan of the crowds. Great drink selection, nice bartenders, the fried appetizers aren’t half bad. Wings, chicken tenders, and onion rings are great. I’ve had better fried pickles though. People here can be so nice.

Showed up at the Mousetrap on a Friday night(colt’s tickets were being given away) about 6:30. The place was moderately filled and the long bar was filled. Half of the place has cheap pool and the other has has tables with a small area for a band towards the front. I can’t comment on if this is the norm, but while we were there it did not appear there were any wait staff. All drinks and food orders are placed at the bar. You have to keep an eye on when your food is brought out from the kitchen because they set it on the bar. As someone already mentioned, if the bar staff is busy, it can be a while before they bring the food to your table. As opposed to just letting the food get cold, I went up and grabbed it from the bar myself. My party had the mozzarella sticks and the reuben. It was all very good and reasonably priced. I wasn’t expecting the mozzarella sauce to be cold, but overall it was delicious. The drinks were also cheap and plentiful. Close to 8, the bar kept getting more and more packed. Due to the limited number of tables, we shared ours with another group and met some nice people. They even bought us a drink for letting them sit with us! Overall, the experience was good and I would return.

I liked the bartender. Food was over an hour to get but the quality was there. Spent only $ 21 including meals and drinks. They need to get help in the kitchen. Pool tables are cheap atonly .50 per game. Salads and tenderloin both were worth it. Will likely come back

We chose the Mousetrap back in October when a friend visited town based on its proximity to our home, its good Unilocal reviews, and a voucher deal they were offering(pay $ 10, get $ 15 worth of food — limit two per table). We don’t dine out much, often because we don’t have the money, but we figured these vouchers might make this experience worthwhile. Our friend brought his dad along, and his dad insisted on paying, so we wound up retaining the vouchers. We weren’t incredibly excited about this because, frankly, we were rather disappointed. The place is a dive in the truest sense of the word, something which the Unilocal profile doesn’t quite capture(or at least didn’t back in October… seems to be doing a better job now). The food is fine but certainly nothing to write home about. Way over-salted for sure, to say the very least. The service is lackluster… the bartenders/waitresses seem extremely bored and make no attempt at friendliness. All that said, I would’ve given this place at least two or three stars if I hadn’t still had those vouchers, which finally brought me back last night. To be honest, the experience started out quite well, and I was even beginning to reassess my feelings on the place. We had the same waitress/bartender as last time, and while she didn’t go out of her way to make us feel at home, she was at least cordial. We actually started out with another waitress altogether who had to leave toward the beginning of our meal, and she was even friendlier! Alas, this switch may well have been the cause of the unpleasantness that docked this review down to the lowest rating. I told our first waitress about our vouchers upfront, just to confirm we’d be able to use them. She said of course it would be no problem. Then she left… without communicating this to our new waitress. When our second waitress brought the check, I went to her to inform her about our vouchers. She IMMEDIATELY became both angry and vulgar. She repeatedly tried to tell me she couldn’t use the vouchers at this point(making quite a scene, I must add), but I had no intention on coming to the Mousetrap again, so I pressed her. Then she said she could only use one of them, but again, this was fairly worthless to me, so I continued to press her as politely as I could(in spite of her continued vulgarity… f-bombs dropped left and right). Finally, she got them both through, at which point she became friendly again and even apologized for her behavior. While I appreciated this apology, her conduct beforehand was completely unprofessional. It left me feeling very unsettled. I’m neither a prude nor a stranger to vulgarity, but I don’t expect to be sworn at repeatedly by a customer service representative. Anyway, if you love dives and live music and other things of that sort, this place may be worth it for you, but, for us, the cons definitely outweigh the pros.

I think my favorite type of bar is the kind I can go to and not have to give a rat’s ass about what I’m wearing or what I look like. This is most definitely the Mousetrap to a T! Granted, I’ve only been here twice — both on Monday’s for trivia– but I’ve felt right at home. It’s dark and grungy and reminds me of my hometown and makes me wanna snuggle in the for the night. They have a good selection of draft beers as well as pretty strong mixed drinks too. Also, any food that I’ve ordered has been scrumptious. Beef stew = yum. Fried pickles = yum. Veggie quesadilla = yum My only complaint(but I think this is part of its charm) is that the food takes a while to come out. I think there’s one person in the kitchen making it and then the guy at the bar is in charge of taking it out, so things can get a little backlogged, especially when they’re busy. Like I said, this is part of the charm, but don’t go with a ravenous appetite because you might end up eating the table.

Let me first say I was not here on a normal night. I was pleasantly surprised with a last minute invitation to join friends for a costume party the weekend before Halloween. With the promise of help throwing together a costume, good music, great friends and cheap beer, I was in! When«The Duchess» showed up, the first thing I noticed was the diversity of the guests. Young and old. Costumed and not. But, everyone was friendly and having loads of fun! Good first impression. I hope owners, employees, and regulars aren’t offended by me saying it’s kind of a dive bar. A little rough around the edges. But, it isn’t a scary dive bar. We’ll say, well loved. The service was quick and friendly. And it was packed! So, I was really impressed with the professional way the staff just rolled with it. You’d think they’ve had a crowd in there before! I didn’t eat anything as my funds were low. But, I will return to remedy this! It was a good time and I will be back!

Wow. That breaded tenderloin is FANTASTIC. Maybe the best I have ever had. Same goes for the fried pickles. Same kind of breading… it’s sooooo good! Definitely going back. Also want to check out the scene at night. We went during lunch… it was just like an old bar/tavern. Hear it really gets jumping at night!

They really are known for their giant tenderloins and stew, but the menu has much more than that. I’ve eaten here on many occasions and tried just about everything. You may not think much of it from the outside, but the Mousetrap has spunk, day and night. Great beer selection and $ 4 craft pints on Thursdays(also a no-cover night with some of the Midwest’s best DJ’s and a packed house after midnight), but the bar can get super busy so sip, don’t gulp, or you’ll stand in line forever. There’s a back and front patio that are often converted into tents of more musicians during the warmer months.

I was not impressed look at this place when I walked in. Especially passing a beautifully crafted word .doc poster in bold Arial — «No Glowsticks». Where am I going? I must have missed the rave because what I had was incredible. This little hole in the wall has the most amazing beef stew I have ever had. Flavorful, spicy and delicious. To top that off the beer selection was impressive and the bourbon selection was good too. This is a place to check out.

I thought this bar was pretty good. We went here randomly one night and there was a band playing. It wasn’t my kind of music but it was an interesting show. It was more of a hippie vibe. I’m glad we watched it. The bartenders were all really nice and worked fast. They got our tabs a little mixed up but it wasn’t a big deal. It wouldn’t stop me from coming back.

Feel that bass going up through your feet? Kinda sexy, isn’t it? You may not be on Molly like the fella next to ya, but I bet you still have the urge to sway your head, throw on some glowsticks and a heady hoolahoop. ahhhhh yeahhh… That’s what I love about Mousetrap. The lack of expectations by your fellow bargoers. They give«casual» a whole new meaning. I believe every time I have visited the Mousetrap it has been on a Thursday for their dubstep music. I need to give it a whirl on another night sometime, but so far the sexy bass has been cutting it. Say what? Bass doesn’t turn you on? Food. Bar food. Like Brittany L. said — they have their bar food down pat. I especially remember the bread sticks with cheese — that must mean something for two reasons: a.) I remembered and b.) they are bread sticks and I’m not a bread stick-raving kinda girl. However, next time I’ll be spinning my hoolahoop and gorging on the spicy stew Brittany recommends.

I’ve only been here twice, but they have the good sense to book Big Sam’s Funky Nation, they have an unexpectedly great selection of nice beers both on tap and in bottles, the staff are friendly, and the diverse crowds all blend copacetically. The speakers on the patio out front is nice — you can hear the band playing inside but you can still chill and have conversations.

This is a HUGE bar with pool tables, TVs, a dance floor and stage, and plenty of seating. They also have food… pretty good bar food, including stew. The«spicy stew» should not be underestimated… that stuff is HOT! This is the last smoking bar in the city that I will go to, and that’s only on nights I want to hear a band play. What sets the Mousetrap apart from many other bars in this city is that there’s a lot of good live music and people dance and have a good time. The type of music varies greatly, I tend to make it out for the bluegrass shows… check their online calendar for details on who is playing on a certain night. The lost star is for how smoky the place is. If I came home, literally, smelling of shit after going to a bar, I would never go there again… no one would. Yet somehow it’s ok in our collective minds to come home reeking of smoke? Nasty. I almost gagged in the shower the next morning when the water hit my hair and released that smell all over again. Luckily, New Old Cavalry and Twin Cats are worth it. After reading the«additional tips» section… Unilocal seems to think this is a restaurant. The«outdoor seating» is more like benches on a tiny deck. It’s 21+ only, so it’s NOT«good for kids».
