Ok. It’s been a year since we visited here. It’s a little far from the house. But, worth the trip. And it will not be a year before we visit again. If you want quality real Italian, this is the place. We kept it simple tonight. Last time our server, Jonathan suggested I try their prime filet on next visit. He wasn’t there tonight, but, heather, our server was great. I asked for help on their extensive Italian wine list and guess what, she knew what she was talking about!!! Major kudos Heather!!! I will concentrate on just a couple of things. Wine. Great choice and help. $ 55 for a Sangiovese Merlot combo. Very good and complemented our food well. I tried the prime filet. In a word, awesomesauce. Loved it. This is truly a great restaurant. Go here. Eat food drink wine. Since we mentioned it was out 31st anniversary we received a free tiramisu. Great. Best o have ever had. EVER!!!

Very disappointing! Antipasti(vegetables) were with so much vinegar that we could hardly eat them. Pasta were too cooked, not al dente. And the pork sirloin was so hard that we could not imagine it was a sirloin. The waitress was very nice, that’s why 1 star. Without her it would have been 0 star!!!

Saturday evening we had a party of 5. And it took just over 2 hours from sitting down to paying the bill. The experience was mediocre at best. This was our first trip here and it will be our last. I brought out of town guests here because I wanted a local place instead of Maggiano’s or Bravo. We should have gone to either of those places because I know the service and food standards are both high and have never had a bad experience there. The restaurant was jammed packed. Too many tables. The lady in the table next to me kept hitting my chair every time she stood up. The waiters couldn’t get to the table adequately or easily. We had the mozzarella and prosciutto appetizer, it was fine. The prosciutto should have been sliced thinner. One person at the table has the Onion soup and loved it. Another person had the Caesar salad and said it was good. Main courses were another story. 3 of us had specials; spaghetti and meatballs(over half of the pasta was left on the plate, the sauce wasn’t seasoned enough, and the meatballs were over handled); chicken lasagna(chicken was dry and about half of the lasagna was left on the plate); Pork special(pork was dry, sauce was excellent but could have used more, the green beans were a little mushy — the whole dish felt like it was left under the heat lamp for too long). The other 2 meals(per the eaters) were good. They ordered off the standard menu. The biggest concern was how long it took. We were done with the appetizer, salad and soup and were sitting there for over 30 minutes without our entrees. The waiter kept filling our water glassed but never apologized for the hold up or what the issue was. When he brought out of the food it was in stages. The hold up was the lasagna, the kitchen had to bake a new pan. SERIOUSLY? ITWAS A SPECIAL. You should expect to sell a large number of it. If we would have been told this, we may have chosen another item. The lack of communication was ridiculous. We took a cannolli to go and ate it the next day. Too much cinnamon. I’ve been in the hospitality and food industries for over 20 years so I know standards etc and this placed wasn’t meeting expectations. Too much money spent on an experience that was severely lacking. If you’re looking for Italian, look somewhere else.

Amalfi is one of my favorite restaurants in Indianapolis. The food is amazing and the service is always great.

We went to Amalfi for New Year’s Eve dinner with a party of six. The restaurant was busy– perhaps a bit too busy or busier than expected because the staff seemed overwhelmed. We arrived at 7PM and weren’t served our entrée until 8:50. There was a 15 – 20 minute period, after we finished out appetizers, where our server disappeared. We were out of wine and wondering when the entrée would arrive. A member of our group actually got up to go look for her. One person’s salad order was incorrect and we made multiple requests for lemon slices that never came. We did complain about the service to our waitress. She explained that because the kitchen doesn’t have warming lamps, she has to break away from whatever she’s doing to deliver a meal once the kitchen says it’s ready. I don’t think that’s an acceptable answer or explanation for poor service. It does suggest the establishment is poorly managed. The mandatory 20% gratuity didn’t help matters either. Service issues aside, the food was 3 to 4 stars. The shrimp diavolo and mushroom appetizers were excellent. The salads were ordinary and on the small side. The entrees were a mixed bag. Three of us ordered the special; a split cut of pork and filled with spinach, cheese, mushrooms, and served with a side of green beans. It was a good idea, but the pork was a little overcooked and not too tender. No complaints from the other three entrees served. There aren’t many places in Indy promising authentic Italian cuisine. In my opinion, Capri is a much better option. The owners there are present and invested in ensuring an excellent restaurant experience.

Best restaurant in Indy for great classic Italian food. They serve the good stuff not just the usual American Italian menu items.

I was looking for an authentic Italian restaurant on the northside, somewhere around where I live and I found it right here at Almalfi! The food was authentic tasting and their menu is beautiful to behold with every item listed in Italian and English– and the customer service was right on point and super friendly and helpful. I’ll end this review with two words, in Italian: Molto bene!

I first experience with this place was 10 years ago and it was great. So I was looking forward to going there again when our friends asked us out. Last night was a big let down. My wife got the chicken lasagna special(this was her favorite when we were dating). It was visual appealing and really full of chicken but the flavor was lacking anything memorable. I got the veal over pasta and asparagus. The veal was good but I was expecting the pasta to be something special but I was wrong. The pasta was just buttered spaghetti. The asparagus was ok but the garlic chunks on it were huge and the other seasoning was just butter.

Good choice for Italian food. This place is hidden behind a strip mall, and is across from a closed-down movie theater. Not the greatest location. Salads — The salads were alright. You can get a Caesar Salad but it’s served on a very tiny dessert plate. Or you can get half the caprese salad, which means you get 2 tomatoes and 2 mozzarella slices for $ 6. The best choice is the soup. All of the salads were pretty good, nice presentation, but the vegetable soup was best. It had lots of potatoes in it which really thickened it up. Good flavor. Entrees are split into pasta, seafood, veal, and chicken. All entrees are served over spaghetti noodles and cost $ 18 – 20. The Spaghetti Carbonara and Spaghetti Bolognese looked amazing, and the group I was with said they were good. I got the Chicken Cacciatore, and it was really good but I was surprised how many mushrooms it came with. Also served with dinner are hard rolls and butter. I think all of the food tasted great. It’s not the most memorable Italian I’ve ever had, but it was good. As others have said, this place is dead empty at 6pm on a weekend. If you don’t want to be the only one in the restaurant, go later around 7−9pm. I can’t decide whether to give this place a 3 or 4 rating. The food was good, not amazing but good. But the prices, interior décor, and location make me want to go with 3 stars.

Food was delicious. Service was terrible and crazy slow. Then the server outright refused to split the check. I’d go back only if I had 4 hours or so to kill and somebody else was buying.

Interesting location. Wouldn’t think a higher end Italian restaurant would be stuffed behind a strip mall. Meal prices ranged from $ 15-$ 35. Sauces and pastas are all made in house. Our meals were all very tasty. I recommend the cheese tortellini and the antipast appetizer. Bread with the meal was so so. House Chianti was ok. Dimmed lighting but seemed more like a group restaurant atmosphere. Not loud but not intimate.

I wanted to love this place so much, but I just wasn’t overwhelmed. We came for our four year wedding anniversary and on a Thursday evening at 6:00, the restaurant was deserted. As in, we were the ONLY customers. The interior was fancy, but in a Grandma’s china cabinet kinda way(You get the vibe, right? Fancy, stuffy, fake flowers with a thin layer of dust). Our server was great and very helpful in explaining the menu items. She seemed to take pride in the fact that all the soups were meat-free broths, but as a proud carnivore, that really wasn’t a selling point for me. Nonetheless, I tried the beef broth-free French onion soup. It was awful. If it wasn’t a special night, I would have sent it back. Other than the cheese, it was completely flavorless and woefully undersalted. I had the salmon piccata special. Again, it was acceptable, but not amazing. The salmon was cooked well, but a piece of the bloodline was left in, making for a very chewy bite until I realized what it was. And the piccata sauce was too thin, so the noodles did not stay coated with sauce. It tasted like I was eating plain spaghetti. The final thing that rubbed me a bit the wrong was was the fact that during our meal, only two more tables were seated. The chef came out and spoke with one table for an extended amount of time. Then he left. With only two other tables, I felt slighted that he didn’t bother to stop by our table even for a moment to ask if we enjoyed our entrees. This place does not allow children under three years old. This was fine for the evening, as we were on a date. But keep that in mind if you have kids. It used to be 21+ and I think they should have kept it that way. If parents of babies have to get a sitter, we certainly wouldn’t want to be annoyed by bratty young children who just make the age cutoff.

Can not believe more people have not written a review for this amazing restaurant. By far the best Italian in Indianapolis. So authentic and romantic! I kind of like that it is a little secret. But should share. You will not be disappointed. The stuffed peppers and chicken lasagne are our favorites. Enjoy!

Great Italian at a very reasonable price. It’s in a not so hot location = reputation carries this place. Great service even on Valentine’s Day. I will come back again!

This is a very classy Italian restaurant hidden away behind a strip mall. Note: It’s not the most kid-friendly place. In fact, it used to be 21+, but the rules have been relaxed somewhat. It’s now 3+(toddler) up. I’ve always heard that the gnocchi is the best in the city(although exactly how many restaurants in Indy actually have gnocchi?). I was not disappointed. Soft pillows of homemade goodness bathed in a creamy, spicy red sauce. The complementary bread was obviously also homemade and was perfect for sopping up the delicious sauce. I sat at the bar and service was very polished, yet warm and friendly. When there are places like Amalfi around, I wonder why places like Olive Garden and Buca di Beppo even exist…

Had a wonderful dinner last night. Calamari was perfect. Veal and salmon were cooked to perfection. It is a little pricey, but we’ll worth it.

Great place. Warm ambiance, attentive wait staff, great food. Had the salad special with white anchovies, wonderful. Dinner was chicken with mushrooms, tomatoes and capers over linguine. Yummy with pasta cooked perfectly. I had to hit hard with salt and Parmesan, perhaps just to my taste. They also need to beef up Italian selections on wine list, wines by the glass list very limited. Would go back.

Delicious and Fun! Great wine selection and wonderful food! The food is flavorful with just the right combinations of flavors, there is almost something«soft» about the noodles in a way I’ve never had noodles before. They were truly amazing and I believed made from scratch! The owner came to great us, and he is a delightful Italian man with the most incredible accent. Finding the place was a bit of a challenge, it seems like you are driving behind a bunch of businesses and then BAM, there it is! This is a must try! Only reason for not giving 5 stars: the location… it’s in a weird place, but worth the hunt!

The couple we were dining with told me that the owner was one of 3 brothers who came from Italy, and their mother is often in the kitchen cooking herself. I believe it! Very authentic, absolutely delicious. Nothing over seasoned or drown in cheese or seasonings, everything was just right. I had the Mozzarella E Prosciutto Crudo appetizer. I swear the cheese was just made that day! The prosciutto was generously sliced with just the right saltiness. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana for dinner, which is my favorite Italian dish. I order it at every new Italian place I go to and see how they stack up. The eggplant was tender and delicious, not too much sauce or cheese. Hands down the best I have ever had, and I am from Chicago where we have some seriously good Italian restaurants. Ambiance was perfect. It was dimly lit, quiet, and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable. I only wish they had fewer specials because I really wanted one of everything :) It’s a bit hard to notice as it is tucked in the back of a strip mall, by a Salvation Army drop off. If you hit the JoAnn Fabrics you’ve gone too far. So turn back around and head back towards 86th and turn back behind the Starbucks. It’s well worth the scavenger hunt!
