VFW Post 5477, The Silver Strand Post

20 years ago I would have given this place 1 star, now, they DESERVE the 5 stars. The place is looking and great! We’re looking forward to coming back to our home post. See y’all soon!

Great place to watch football or baseball. Many tv’s and Crist beers with 12 taps. When kitchen open I really enjoy XLT nachos. Can’t beat the prices. Ask about being a member of the VFW or its Auxiliary to have fun in IB and support veteran causes.

My girlfriend hates this place, what better place to get away! Playing pool here and knowing all the friendly people is even better, can’t wait to go back!

Great spot to for cheap drinks and amazing (true) stories from vets. The only downside is you gotta be a member or know someone who is. This place has an awesome jukebox, pool table, electronic dart board, plenty of board games and a tasty variety of beers on tap which are very VERY affordable.
If you’re in the mood for something different and not to drab check out your local VFW with a military friend, you’ll be glad you did.

VFW– Veterans of Foreign Wars
VFW is a members only organization. In order to be a member you must be a Veteran (someone that has served in a combat zone)

My review is on the bar:
I used to come here after work for that much earned, much needed, cold beer at the end of a stressful day. The same people are always there. It made me feel like part of a family, which is the way a VFW is supposed to feel. It reminds you of your military family and veterans, with the exception of those that are still in the service, crave the camaraderie that comes with being in the military. The VFW provides that. And what better way to relax with family than over a drink? Everyone sits around drinking most are alone and if they are inclined to do so, partake in the conversation… the bar is shaped in a U so everyone can see and hear one another. If you want to be left alone, you usually are… unless someone is really drunk :) More often than not, someone buys a round for the whole bar and drops a hefty $ 50 or so! They give everyone a chip that can be redeemed for a drink immediately or in the future. Usually one person buying a round is followed by another person buying a round… then me cooking dinner is out the window.
There is a pool table, a jute box, TVs, and a back patio for those who indulge in tobacco. $ 3 for a mini pitcher was the biggest draw for me and that is not a happy hour special. The prices are low all the time.
I have had some amazing experiences here. A friend of ours was killed in combat and going to the VFW was one of the ways we dealt with it. Everyone in there knew what we were feeling. We bought a round for the bar and toasted to SSgt Daniel Hanson for his sacrifice. it helped the healing process. Many healing conversations have gone in at VFWs all over the country. On Saturdays they play «I’m Proud to be an American» and everyone stands around the perimeter of the bar, hold hands and sings! My first Saturday there, I, an Iraq Veteran, held hands with a Vietnam veteran and sang… not many people understand why that is amazing, but the people there do and that’s all that matters sometimes.
