This place is the definition of a dive and that is not a complement. We gave it a try because of some of the review. the ribs were way over done the brisket was bland and fatty. my wife said the potato salad was good. the French fries were also good they were like boardwalk style. I wouldn’t recommend dinning here.

2÷20÷1411:57 — What a find, an authentic Texas BBQ joint! Don’t know how long this place has been smoking ‘que, but carbon dating suggests since the 1970’s. Its doubtful they have ever spent one dollar in renovations. This only adds to the charm, when you park and walk through the door you fell like you are in an Urban Cowboy movie. An awful rock masonry façade with window AC units, tin roof, faded overhead sign, and busted up parking lot. There is an ancient long forgotten dusty beer can collection inside. For Pete’s Sake, they have a velvet painting of Clint Eastwood from the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Vintage! Love this place. I scored Post Oak Ranch an 83 out of 100. This is Reserve Grand Champion Texas BBQ. It restored my hope in Houston, Tx barbecue. Smoke: Hickory. Wood fired BBQ in an ancient Black Olyer. I love how the smoke stack in the back is rusted and leaning to point its looks like it will fall over. The staff described the smoker as «one of those old style pits with the racks that turn around». Brisket: Good. A ¼in smoke ring beneath a beautiful thick black bark. I got the lean cut and it tested dry of tender. It had good smoke flavor and could not detect any rub seasoning. It started dry and finished dryer. Use the sauce. While I was waiting on a picture of the pit, the manager cut me a slice of fatty brisket. Oh Mah Gah, that was so good but it was too late to score. If you go you must request the fatty slices. No sauce needed. I will have to come back for an updated score based on that slice. Ribs: Very Good. Near perfect tender big meaty spare rib. Nice rosy pink smoke ring beneath a thick bark. They are glazed with the BBQ sauce so they are slightly wet which makes for good finger licking. Smokey and delicious. No sauce needed. Sausage: Very Good. A course ground beef link with bold traditional spice and strong peppery after taste. Casing was smokey and snappy. After eating truck loads of grocery store quality links, this was a nice treat. No sauce needed. Sauce: Very Good. A simple thin super tangy red tomato vinegar sauce with great flavor. This sauce works well to add flavor to the meat but not mask the smokey goodness. Don’t forget to get it on the side, but if you forget so what! They offer a beef rib, but I’ll have to come back that also. Maybe one of my fellow meatheads can review.

I got a chopped beef BBQ baked potato and was satisfied– it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it was a nice, big, reasonably priced lunch. The sauce makes or breaks the BBQ and theirs just wasn’t anything special. I’d go back if I’m back in the area, but I definitely wouldn’t make a special trip.

I’ve been here a few times now and have walked away a happy customer every time. I usually get the two-meat special which is a great value for the amount of food you get. I usually go with the brisket and try whatever other meat(ie sausage, chicken, ribs) that strikes me at the time. The brisket is great — flavorful and tender. It’s a family operated place and the service is great as well.

Unreconstructed good ol’ family BBQ place, untouched since who knows when. Not«vintage» but real, on a strip of very real S Post Oak undiscovered by hipsters and real-estate investors. Very comfortable, very friendly, inexpensive for a family to eat. Pretty decent usual BBQ — brisket whole and chopped, sausage, fowl, etc. The usual BBQ-joint canned sides, etc. Good sauce. It’s comforting, filling, a return to the days before chain-restaurants and«foodies» took over America. Highly recommended if you’re young and want to know what 1973 felt like.

I have been going to Post Oak BBQ off and on for over 10 years. Service has always been great. They greet you when you walk in and tell you thank you when you leave. That being said, the food isn’t the same quality as it use to be. I had the sliced beef brisket sandwich today and while is was very tender it was also very bland. No smokey flavor and it was lacking seasoning. Kind of like eating a pot roast. The roll that it was served on wasn’t the freshest, it was a little hard. At least the sauce is the same as it always has been, very good. The fixings bar was in need of a good cleaning, they were also out of pickles. The other problem was ants all around the soda dispenser. I hope they get it together and bring back the great BBQ they use to serve. Till then I’m going to have to pass.

I have driven by this place many times. Finally, I decided to try it out. The brisket was definitely comparable to Rudy’s. It was very moist and not burnt! The amount and quality food you get for the price are a steal! This is not by any means a fancy place, just a nice mom and pop restaurant.

I like their BBQ and I like their décor. The owners put their kids(or nephews) to work at the register. The kids didn’t seem to happy about it but it is good experience for them. I have been here several times for lunch and have taken several friends. The food is good and I LOVE the black velvet Clint Eastwood painting on the wall. Some of the junktiques are pretty cool, like the old beer can collection.

I’ve been going here since I was a kid. The décor is by no means fancy but your stomach will thank you.

This place is near my new location in Houston. I’ve seen it a few times and finally stopped in. The people running the place were very nice and the food was good. The potato salad is a must have. Overall, the meat was flavorful and moist. My only small complaint is that I’d like to leave under the $ 10 mark. My two-meat combo w/2 sides and drink was around $ 11. Bottom Line: Give Post Oak Ranch a shot if you’re in the area. I will go back.
