There’s decent pie here, but the remainder of the menu seems mediocre. Tried the«Pie in the Sky» Burger, which turned out to be a pre-formed, frozen patty, served with pre-made, frozen onion rings on a burned bun. The pies are good enough, but not that spectacular. They’re the only reason this place gets more than one star. Prices are high for what you get. It’s amazing that anything this mediocre can survive on 19th for as long as it has.

Food is okay. I wouldn’t recommend the sandwiches, which are not anything special. The«meat» on my turkey sandwich looked like it was out of a plastic package form the grocery store. Disappointing. The desserts are what to come here for! I reccomend the chess bars. YUM! The apple pie is also delicious, warmed up of course and with a scoop of blue bell homemade vanilla!

Mississippi mud pie is still my favorite; pecan pie is nutty & good; and what makes a streusel apple pie better? Top it with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream! hahaa: D Loves it much!

I went with 2 friends during work hours. The place is cute and small not ideal for groups larger than 4. It is self– seating/grab menu at the door. We sat and were quickly asked for our drink orders. Service was prompt and polite. Food was good — nothing to remember them great or poor wise. Solid standard food. Dessert, however, was real good — had their cake balls, YUMMO. Why they were given the 4th star. I must come back with the hubby to try some pie. :) We were done less than hour — perfect for work lunch outing.

When the moon hits your eye with a big piece of pecan pie — yep, that IS amore. Really — Vegetarian pot pie? Why oh why don’t the Denver Veg restaurants make this? I mean— Veggies. Pie Crust… it SCREAMS vegetarian bliss. But the Pie in the Sky Company’s «Southern Pecan Pie» –now THAT is just something you could only get in heaven. I mean Houston. Take it from me — START with dessert first– and do go for the Southern Pecan. Next time I’m in town – that bumbleberry’s got my name all over it. Only negative(Lose 1 Star) — I didn’t see we could get Blue Bell(Texas) ice cream atop instead of whip cream– til after we were done. Wish the server would have upsold me there. Not sure even that Pecan pie will be enough to get me to go back to Houston… but if I have to go back — at least there’s an Oasis down there. An oasis made of pie… Mmmmm xxoo Kity

Transcendent, Magical, Pielicious How did I live in Houston for a year and not discover this astonishing place? I think I was blinded by friend’s blasé reactions to other pie-specialty shops in Houston. How wrong I was to ignore Pie in the Sky! This place has the best pie selection. All the pies y’all! Everything looks crazy-good too. I had a «Vanishing Cherry Pie» which just changed my life. Changed my life in a small way, a little whisper of a way, in that I now feel better about today and thus, life is a little different then it was when I hadn’t had pie yet. Still, that is the way of life — to be transformed bit by bit & pie by pie. Lunch was great too! Split a killer chicken sandwich with«mixed fries» with my husband which confirmed that this lil’ local eatery has more to offer than pies. Did I just say«more to offer than pies» — as if that weren’t enough to enrich our lives? Will I ever learn? I will be coming here often. I will be trying all these pies. I will congratulate myself on finding pleasure in the universe.

I went here with my BFF after working out at the gym. Yes, I did. Don’t judge me. Needless to say we went here with a purpose — to give this joint a try in the Heights — my next area to conquer in terms of eateries. I have not heard about PITS ever and I was curious. I was not disappointed either. Wow, we had brunch and I will say — skip the buffet, order the breakfast quiche — a treasure. Also, the PIE selection is phenomenal. They actually have various sizes of Mississippi Mud Pies to take home! My mom used to make that shizz and it’s just as good. You will miss out if you don’t get one. I can’t wait to try. However, I will need to run a marathon and hike an 18 wheeler up a hill to work off the calories this place has to offer. PS: the fried okra is the best I’ve ever, no EVER had. Just sayin.

How am I the only person to give this place 5 stars?!? I really enjoyed my experience at Pie in the Sky, most of all my experience when I left and got to indulge in the pecan pie that was staring at me while I ate. I got a half chicken salad sandwich and cup of soup. It was the perfect lunch and I couldn’t have been more satisfied when I left. My mom got the Tomato Basil soup and really enjoyed it. We each walked away with a couple different tiny pies that were all equally delicious. The place is so cozy and perfectly situated in the heights, with a good amount of parking. I cant wait to go back for breakfast!

Cute place. Had a nice big order of sweet potato fries. I got a healthy pie, it was similar to a quiche. It was pretty good. I saw some other people who had really big looking sandwiches, yet I guess my bf and I selected the not so big ones. So sad for us.

One of the places that’s been on my radar that gets the most mixed reviews. But since I was craving a late breakfast/brunch on a saturday, I was willing to give it a try. It’s a bit confusing but I think you grab a menu and seat yourself. The wait staff comes by quickly after that, and you do order at the table. I had the cilantro lime chicken sandwich with the broccoli and cheese soup while my gf had the savory pie with fruit, and we added a basket of the sweet potato fries. The fries came out first and they were excellent! My sandwich was good, the cilantro dressing made the sandwich, a little bit small for my liking but good, the soup was eh. My gf’s pie was good, like a quiche mixed with a pot pie. The service was good, had plenty of refills and the food came out fast. Also if you check in on facebook you get a free drink.

Their cake balls are 5 stars(esp red velvet). Their pies are 4 stars-hit and miss in the deliciousness department but good overall. Their food is 3 stars — ok, not great, but the place is good with kids, decent for lunch, and hey-it’s called pie in the sky so you really come for dessert.

For a locally owned small business I am disappointed in what happened to us at 9:06 am on 5÷7÷2011 when I learned of our breakfast charge total of $ 27.04. At the counter we were informed that the only breakfast available all day long was the ‘breakfast buffet’ for $ 9.95. We couldn’t order off the menu. «We’re not that hungry. Does it come with coffee?» «Yes.» «It does? It comes with coffee!!!» «Yes.» “Sold.“ My breakfast companion likes to pay for my food a lot. But, this time, as he began to spread his NY Times onto the table, I took that opportunity to pre-pay the bill so he wouldn’t have a chance to pay it. «I’d like to pay now(almost whispering). «No, we’ll bring it to you.» «I’d like to pay it now please.» «It’s okay, we’ll bring it to you.» Not wanting to break their rhythm, I didn’t insist. I wish I had. At check out they charged us for the breakfast buffet(which we visited ONCE because the eggs were not moist, but semi-hard and flavorless, however, the bacon was amazing, but really greasy) AND the coffee. For the price they charged us, we could have gone to one of our favorite spots with comfortable seating. When I protested the added coffee charge, they put forth, «we don’t set the prices!» A young woman appeared from behind the kitchen as if to say by her Xena-like stance, «what’s the problem?» «This is an overpriced breakfast. She said coffee was included. We weren’t even that hungry.» All I received from her were ‘stares’. I hope the owner of this restaurant understands the image projected onto customers by their staff: I did leave a small tip of $ 3.00 on the table even though both women who served coffee to us were the ones who misled us — I usually leave 20%. As we left the restaurant, a sarcastic over syrupy female voice hollered out, ‘y’all c-o-m-e b-a-c-k n-o-w…’ I didn’t look around to see which one it was. As I left, I realized that ‘Daddy must be out of town or off on the weekends.’ AND, this place should have been packed at that time of day on a Saturday. Damn. There was one table there when we arrived and two tables there when we left. I am beginning to understand why it was not crowded ATALL. I promote buying local, especially ‘made in the USA’, and I promote supporting the small business folks. Not this time. I will not return. What a nasty crowd of people.

Pie, Pie, Pie, Pie, Pie… in the Sky I’m really giving them 3.5 stars… Been wanting to try this spot. Went on Sunday afternoon @ 1 pm and it was lightly filled. I had the strawberry spinach salad which was delish. It was a good portion and the dressing was really good. The salad consists of spinach, strawberries, chicken breasts and pieces of walnuts. And my friend had soup, and the chicken tenders. My only complaint was that the sweet tea wasn’t sweet, I still had to use splenda :( They were out of key lime pie so we tried the lemon pie which was very delicious. Overall, it was a nice experience — I could totally get why some reviewers complained about the service though. The first waittress wasn’t very friendly, but the other one that stopped by a few times was great. Thumbs up and I’ll be back.

Sweet iced lemonade and fresh baked buns Thin cut onions and meat perfectly done. Hot meals picked up after a *bing* These are a few of my favorite things… Artwork by children and sun-kissed walls, Gooey fruit pies and moist cake balls Bold color crayons and new coloring pages. Friendly small talk that the waiter engages These are a few of my favorite things… When the waiter goes, When the check arrives, When I am feeling mad, I simply remember my favorite things and then I do feel so glad. If the word pie is in the name of your business, I’m expecting a lot of options… and this just wasn’t the case. I stopped by after lunch with a couple co-workers. I have a major sweet tooth and was excited about the visit but also a little concerned that I would be so torn between what kind to try that I would leave with a couple slices. Again, not the case. The pies that don’t require refridgeration are pre-packaged. There were about 6 – 8 flavors — pecan, chocolate silk, cherry, raisin/sour cream, strawberry rhubarb, etc. The cream pies and key lime pies are kept behind the counter and available by the slice. I never get rhubarb pie, so I knew this was the choice for me. My grandma makes the best rhubarb pie ever, so I realize I have some high standards. But this really failed to impress. The crust was soggy! And the filling was also disappointing. Almost bland! I think the place itself is cute and has potential, but I was not impressed with my slice of pie ATALL! :-(

So after reading Linh N. et al reviews from here, I decided to venture over for lunch and of course PIE. I ordered the Savory Pie which came with a cup of soup, fries, chips, or fruit. I selected a cup of Potato Soup. The soup was excellent!!! Very fresh and tasty. The savory pie – eh, not so much. NOW that said, perhaps I wasn’t that enthralled with it because one of the main ingredients in it was sliced sausage. I HATE sausage and had the menu said that the pie contained sausage, I of course would not have ordered it! Alas, the menu mentioned nothing of the sausage but since it was sliced, I was able to slowly deconstruct my piece of pie and remove the vile slices housed within. I also ordered slices of Sour Cream Raisin, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Sugar Free Cherry and Bumbleberry all to go. :-D(oink, oink) The SF Cherry, Choc. Peanut Butter & Bumbleberry were actually quite good, but only when heated.(Straight out of the refrigerator they were gross.) The Sour Cream Raisin – Meh, not so much. **BTW, the Bumbleberry was just featured in the Houston Press Magazine.

There aren’t many small/local restaurants in Houston(Heights) that stay open late. Who wants to work past 5 or 6??? I definitely wouldn’t. Pie in the Sky Pie Company breaks that mold by having hours from 7am to 10pm. Although the name suggests otherwise, they serve more than just pie. They serve breakfast and lunch/dinner. The lunch/dinner menu offers salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers, etc. And of course, pies. All pies are served à la mode or with whipped cream(or both). For my main course, I ordered the Pecan Pie with vanilla ice cream. For dessert, I ordered Strawberry Rhubarb, also with ice cream. Both pies were served warm and had just the right amount of filling. Overall, I thought the pies were good. The price was a little over 8 dollars for the two pies. I’m not sure if the AC was broken, but it was hot inside the restaurant. Also, because of our large group(10 people), there was some confusion with the bill. This was sorted out fairly quickly so it wasn’t really much of a problem. I will definitely be going back to try some of the others pies that they offer.

It’s gettin’ hot in here. So take off all your clothes. Ok, so maybe it’s not a Nelly song, but this place was HOT, like 80 degrees hot! I don’t know if the AC was broken or if it is always like that, but man they need to fix it! I loved rollin’ up to this place to find a parking lot. That’s often a luxury in the heights! We parked and went in(began sweating) and found lots of long tables. It reminded me of Goode Company BBQ in that way. The service was really really good. Everyone working there was nice, full of helpful info, and quick on drink refills. The food was fine. The club was fine and the lime cilantro chicken sandwich was also fine — nothing special, just fine. They do serve sweet potato fries which I love. For dessert I ordered the cake balls. They had three flavors(Italian cream cake, chocolate, and chocolate silk). My favorite by far was the chocolate silk, the other two I didn’t finish, but others at the table did. My husband had a slice of the peach streusel, and he liked it. Everything here was good and I would venture a 3.5 stars. I just couldn’t bump it to 4 stars because: 1. It was frickin’ HOT inside! 2. My friend’s cherry pie was a bit odd in its texture. Maybe a little too gelatinous. 3. The entrees were just ok, nothing great. 4. Did I mention it was HOT?

Me. I’m the one, that’s right. I’m the one that ordered a strawberry and spinach salad at a «pie place.» Not embarrassed to admit it. Give me a break, at least I wasn’t one of the two who ordered two slices of pie: one for dinner and one for dessert. Five cups of spinach, sliced almonds, fresh strawberries, jerk-dressinged chicken breast, and a sesame seed/olive oil dressing that I turned into a dipping sauce.(Ordered it on the side.) This new«favorite salad in Houston» is what I appeased my stomach with while the two nameless people of our party enjoyed their two pie dinner courses. My salad and dipping sauce was so good and filling, I didn’t mind all of the dessert around me. My compatriots ordered Vanishing Cherry, Buttermilk Coconut, Mississippi Mud, Bumbleberry, Choco-Peanut Butter, Peach Struesel, Key Lime, Southern Pecan, and I’m not certain what Stephen’s second piece was, but I’m just going to say Lemon Crème, since that sounded like a winner.(I’m a sucker for Lemon Meringue.) The ones I couldn’t stop staring at as I ate all five cups of spinach were: Buttermilk Coconut, MS Mud, Peach Struesel, and PB and Choco. If we had been sitting at a round table(I have a thing with having to sit at round tables when dining in a large group), I could have told you how Stephen’s Pecan and Lemon Crème were, but alas, you’ll just have to use your imagination. I could also tell you how the other four«Gretchen’s picks» were, but I have a feeling that I would have walked out of that place with fork wounds. On a side note, you can order whole pies to go(small or large), but if you do this, order a slice«to sample while waiting.» It’s really a nice set up, and the building exterior is lime green. How is that not awesome? On a second side note, you readers have no idea how many times this I had to reedit this review in fear of being stuck with a PMRC sticker. Tipper would have had a field day. Hard to write a non-double-entendre-sounding review about pie. It would have made Taime Downe blush… well, maybe not.

Another new jewel in the Heights. Today was a perfect lazy Saturday for a nice casual lunch. Pie in the sky was recommended so there we went. Greeted and seated by very friendly staff we got the menu and had to write down our order ourselves. I love that system! No more«are you ready to order» every 20 seconds. When you’re done, they pick it up. That simple. The menu is full of delicious goodness so it was not easy to choose. Sandwiches, wraps, salads and soups for breakfast, lunch and dinner(open till 10PM). And of course pies! I ordered the Lime Cilantro Chicken Sandwich, this is a char-grilled chicken breast with a creamy cilantro dressing(home made), Swiss cheese on a herb bun. I asked to hold the cheese(sorry, even though I am Dutch I don’t like the stuff). My wife ordered the savory pie, quiche style. I got my sandwich with cheese and the waitress took it back immediately, a little while later I got a new sandwich without cheese. It was a nice, tender well grilled chicken breast smothered in a creamy yet light sauce on a bun that was soft but not sloppy. All together a nice surprising sandwich. The savory pie was made with a quiche style dough but not overfilled with egg and cream, unlike so many other places that serve quiches. It was filled with a delicious mixture of meats and veggies hold together by just the right amount of eggs. Dessert: of course! We ordered the bumble berry pie, but were served the cherry streusel pie. It looked so good we didn’t mind. The pie was delish. Not too sweet at all. The cherries were soury-sweet on a butter pie dough topped with crunchy streusel. It comes standard a la mode so the ice and whip cream made the party complete. Great place to come back to, more than once. If they have our orders right next time and I may give them five stars. Good can be simple, but it’s not simple to be good.
