I highly recommend anyone with back issues or chronic pain to seek treatment from Dr. Curka. I was diagnosed at 12 with scoliosis, now at 46 I find I have chronic back pain and some numbness that goes into my left arm. I turned to Osteopathic medicine after a lifetime of having chiropractic treatments. I found that being «popped» was not relieving any of my symptoms and I believe those treatments were actually causing more damage to my joints. I have had several treatments from a variety of DOs (there are many different ways a DO may treat you depending on their philosophy and training) that alleviated symptoms for longer periods of time, and with a more gentle treatment style. What separates chiropractors from DOs is that osteopathy focuses more on the soft and connective tissues (muscles/​ligaments etc.) that when treated can help the spine and joints align, and even internal organs work better. Also, DOs are actual doctors, so if you have had some trauma or are in a great deal of pain, they can write a prescription for you. DOs focus on the whole person, lifestyle, nutrition, etc that can also be causes of underlying issues.
Dr. Curka is extremely thorough in his analysis of misalignments throughout my body. He then systematically treats each area only using gentle touch, and muscle balancing techniques to work the muscle and fascia tissues. These treatments literally coax joints into proper alignment. I have great relief from my back and neck issues immediately and I found I can go longer and longer between treatments.
Recently I had an accident that caused some mild head trauma. After seeing an ER doc, then a general practitioner I was still feeling dizzy and nauseous several days after the accident. I consulted with Dr. Curka, he did an exam of my ears and nose and found signs of blood behind one of my eardrums. Rather than treat me he first consulted with the radiologists that read my CT scan in the ER. While I was still in his office he had the discussion with the radiologists confirming that he saw no skull fractures. Erring on the side of caution, Dr. Curka ordered a more in depth CT scan of my temporal bones to see if there was an underlying cause of the blood behind my eardrum. So after the better part of week and seeing two other docs, I may finally get some answers thanks to Dr. Curka’s diligence.
Dr. Curka does not have office staff, but he is very easily reached by phone or email, and responds within an hour of me reaching out if I have to leave a message. I have seen Dr. Curka several times and now he «knows» my body, he knows where my issues are and so now my treatments are quicker than when I first came in. Also, Dr. Curka treats my 9 year old daughter. She is showing some signs of having the same back and neck issues that I have. Therefore I am trying to pre-​empt her from going through a lifetime of pain and keeping her body working optimally now by seeking treatments. He is very good with kids although I don’t believe he treats infants. Dr. Curka is also very personable and I feel very comfortable receiving treatments. His practice is very personalized and that ensures you get very relaxed pace of treatment.
