We were getting a faloodah at Agha Juice across the street and the friend my sister and I were introducing to the Mahatma Gandhi District was interested in visiting a grocery store in the area. Well, we walked out and we saw the name of this place and it was a sign. We drove the short distance and had a fun time trying to find a parking spot. We ended up finding one around the back of the shopping center where all the back doors for the employees were. As a note, there was a shopping cart lying snack dab in the middle of the road of the parking lot. Major negative points for that. When we left the store, a lady who was backing out of her spot accidentally hit it with her car; we ended up dragging it out of the way so she could back out without getting out of the car to remove it herself. Back to the store! It’s a pretty good size and I was excited. I usually go to another Indo-Pak store so I was curious to see what other stores offered. It was a little more crowded, perhaps because we were there in the middle of the day(most of my grocery runs are at night). The store’s cleanliness was okay. They had a fairly decent selection of foods but I noted that they had a distinct lack of vegetarian — Jain vegetarian in particular — choices. This saddened me since we’re vegetarian but don’t eat onion and garlic, so that meant we couldn’t eat most of the food. Their flours and spice choices were fine, but not the best. They had a good amount of snacks as well. There was a booth giving out samples of some snacks, which we were offered despite being the only non-south Asian people there. Yay! I also liked the small section in the back that sold various wares for cooking/serving. Despite it all, it wasn’t my most favorite grocery store, perhaps due to the lack of variety of food I could eat(where are my Jain samosas?). Although it is a good size, it isn’t the largest and it seemed like the aisles were closer together, giving it a comparatively more cramped feeling. This also meant that though they had a decent variety of stuff, it wasn’t as extensive as my usual store. Other than the two people giving out samples(I’m sure they were sent by the company and not employees of the store), we didn’t have any other interaction with the store’s employees. It was okay, but I probably wouldn’t stop by again, especially with the state of the parking lot. However, it is somewhat convenient to get back on 59 — just go out the back past the Whataburger onto the feeder road. This is awesome if you don’t want to get on crowded Hillcroft and to save some time.

Parivar store has poor customer service. The owner looks like an Indian feudal lord while his employees attend to his orders like good minions. The store produce and vegetables look stale. Most prices are like other Indian stores, not better. The store stinks like any south Asian store because of spices. The employees are just indifferent, doing their work. If you are not a south Asian(or Desi, as they say), you are the odd person because this store is frequented by Indian immigrants nostalgic for their native food and spices.

Owner needs to consider and provide the discount when we have the parivar card. Many time they don’t provide the same. Even after saying we have the card. The cashier says they applied discount. But when we check the bill the product was charged more and no discount was provided

This grocery store is a blot on the south Asian community. The owner is a crook. He stands over the cash registers to force the clerks to charge trusting customers more than they owe. I had heard rumors about this but it happened to me today. When I caught it, the owner stepped in with a staged apology. Very sketchy.

I have been to many grocery stores in Dallas and houston area and this is definitely the worst experience we ever had. The guy at the register was rude, he acted as if he was doing a favor to us by working there. The store stinks of some weird smell, I will never visit this store again. They don’t deserve a 1 star rating for the customer service provided.

This Indo-Pak grocery store was larger than I expected. They have everything you can imagine. I was blown away by how many types of flour they had. I was looking for ingredients to make Papadum(lentil flour cracker). I asked a fellow shopper who was able to direct me to the kind I would need and she even went the extra step to show me the already made version that can be cooked when desired. Checkout was quick and the lady at the register was friendly and offered a smile.

«„Parivar Groceries“» is the best Indian store there is in Houston. i have been shopping here since 3 years and have never been disappointed. Recently, the upgraded store has a lot more options with fresh vegetables as well… I had shopped at other places as well, by far Parivar is the best… HIGHLYRECOMMENDED…

Pretty much rude people here. I just came from the next door restaurant which is definitely a 5 star as far as people and service to walk into this mediciny dink of a store. Feeling like stepping out of my element for a bit again I ventured up and down a few of the isles awwing at the numerous products that I have not seen even in an Asian Supermarket. While being intrigued at the different items I noticed a pair of eyes following me through the cooler door, no big deal I used to own a convenient store and we would do the same to make sure things were«ok» out in the main area. I did not think anything twice but I embarked on something interesting that I wanted to show my friend back home so I snapped a picture to ask him if he has seen this spice before because I remember it being in some type of dish that was very good and wanted to see if that was it for sure. Around the corner like an ugly goose who’s territory I stepped into this guy whom I assumed was the owner hissed«No pictures! This is my store, delete the pictures!». Now I am a person of reason and tried gently to explain that I was trying to ask a friend about this red spice that I found so I could get it but like some third world country market monger I think I must have disturbed him from eating his curry bowl or something but would not try to let me finish calmly what I had to say. My only response was after his pointing of his finger in my face«Who giva yu pamission too taka a picture hea?» was«I did not see a sign that said no picture taking allowed nor was I meaning any harm in asking my friend about your wonderful spice». While pointing his finger at my neck with the godly amount of dirt under his nail I focused on some yellow colored goo on this mustache making me think he must have gotten alerted by Ali in the cooler making him run a$$ over tea kettle to confront me over something in what I thought was menial. Oh my god is this actually happening? Did I step from the twilight zone of a real friendly restaurant with 5 star service food into the pit of hissing of black market delipidated wooden stand, cloth covered market somewhere in the Middle East? I calmly apologized and made my way toward the door while wanting to be a nice guy and tell him about the yellow goo stuck on his mustache and the black crust that can be seen growing under his index finger nail but I think he would have taken that wrong as well, cut my losses(and his as a customer that spends an average of $ 30 a trip) at this rough land.

Great service. Great selection of Indo-Pak groceries with reasonable prices.
