The people over there are awesome and the product is roasted daily. I might be bias but I think it’s the best coffee out there. Try any micro-lot they have available or my favorite which is Jumping Mouse. Ever had an expresso within hours of the beans being roasted? Mmmmm…

I have found the employees here to be really helpful & genuinely nice folks to buy from. I believe they are locally owned & operated too. I mainly buy the whole bean Velvet Espresso, which I think is the best espresso roast in Houston, and one of the best nationally. Excellent taste & consistently produces way more crema than just about anything else I have tried. Katz quality has been really consistent over time as well. We occasionally buy some of drip roasts and have found them all to be good quality. I also buy my Torani products here as they are very price competitive and the product seems to be fresher than some of the other suppliers — figure they must be turning over their inventory on a more regular basis. Good coffee!

Been in love with Katz Coffee for years but overlooked the fact that the business was not far from me. Saving a few dollars a pound for the freshest possible Katz beans? I approve! I like dark roasts so Midnight Blue and Black Diamond are the ones I recommend.

I have never been a coffee drinker. I found no need to ingest large quantities of caffeine when I already have rocket fuel pumping through my veins. I’m just ADHD like that. But, Avi Katz, you have changed my mind my friend! The Café de Olla is hands down the best coffee money can buy. That piping hot beverage in it’s pure, unadulterated form is like drinking bliss. DONOT add a thing to this witch’s brew! It is already slightly sweetened with just the right amount of brown sugar, addictive because of the chunks of ground chicory, and fragrant from the cardamom. The best part of coming to work is Café de Olla in my cup. Oh, and not having to brew it myself. That part is pretty awesome too. But that is one of the perks of working in a coffee shop/café smart enough to serve this luxurious morning potion.

My favorite coffee hands down at a great price! I also love the fact that its local and all the staff is extremely helpful and friendly! I like the Bat City Blend and Katz Best Blend. I have been hooked on the Organic Mexican Dark Roast for a while now and it taste better than most coffee I’ve had in coffee shops. I also love that they have tons of free samples in the lobby, so there is always a chance to try something new!

Pros: Katz is a good value(good coffee at a good price) Cons: Katz does not have a storefront and I would like to see Katz’s beans in more stores or more prominently featured in coffeehouses that use their product. In the inner northwest corner of Houston, just a stone’s throw north of 610, is a coffee roasting greatness better known as Katz Coffee. The address leads to an unassuming conglomeration of warehouse buildings, with the storefront-less Katz Coffee nestled in the middle. Keep your eyes open for the peach-colored warehouse buildings, as I had to drive by a couple of times before I realized that I had the right place. The warehouse is where it all takes place: beans received from the world over, then roasted, and then shipped to fine coffee purveyors. I just had to see this place first hand. The budding coffee enthusiast in me urged me to drive from San Antonio to Houston to do so. Katz Coffee has been making a name for itself in Texas. Avi Katz, owner, is quite the coffee guru and his numerous successful blends and single origins are testament to this fact. His roasted coffees are served in coffeehouses not only in Houston, but Austin, San Antonio, and the Hill Country. Hotels and B&Bs proudly feature Katz’s. The staff at Katz are patient, friendly, and accommodating. I recommend calling 10 to 15 minutes ahead with your order, so they can prepare it for pickup. Anna, a staff member, helped me with directions, helped me pick out the right blend according to my tastes, and didn’t mind my late decision to add on another bag of beans to my order. I bought a pound each of whole bean Jumping Mouse blend for me and whole bean Bavarian Chocolate for my coworkers. The Jumping Mouse blend is very nice. It features a subtle blend of Central American, South American, and African coffee beans. Katz’s describes the Jumping Mouse blend as «[having a] subtle body, a rich, nutty complexity and a lingering milk chocolate finish.» After grinding the beans at home and employing the Chemex pour-over method, I definitely thought the coffee was nice and subtle; bright, but not overly so; nutty and quite chocolatey. It was very tasty, especially with a little bit of evaporated milk to give it even more subtle smoothness. As I try more of Katz’s blends and single origins, I will post my impressions as updates here. Until then, have a look at their website, pick out a popular blend, and drive over to pick some up. A small handful of HEBs in Houston carry Katz Coffee. Just check Katz’s website for more info.

I love their coffee. I come here at least once a month to buy a pound of espresso. Their new packaging keeps the beans fresh for longer, unlike their previous packaging which is the typical paperbag style with some sort of zip tie. Love their roast, they also sell tea and coffee. I recommend calling in your order because it can take 15 minutes to get your order. It is a wholesale warehouse after all. The staff are super nice!

OMG!!! I love this coffee! Dont know what they put in it but there must be some secret ingredient. Wandered into the Kolache Factory one day and by chance ordered a coffee too. Had to go back to the K.F. — not for the kolaches, but for the COFFEE!!! I got the«Bold» and it was rich and smooth and just plain yummy! Strong, but not acidic or bitter and no jitters even after I drank the husbands cup too! lol. Now that I know the name I cant wait to go shopping. Then I find out the company is around the corner 2 blocks from my house! Maybe that is why it is so good, locally fresh! Starb-who???

WOW! This is not only some of the best coffee I’ve had, but also the best customer service I’ve received from a vendor. I have a small business in Austin, and we very recently added coffee to our menu. Since it’s an auxiliary item, and brand new, we aren’t selling tons of it every day yet. We tested pretty much every gourmet coffee in the Austin area, and many of them either don’t deliver, charge for shipping, have large wholesale minimums, or just outright don’t care about a wholesale account that won’t immediately have tons of volume. One of them wouldn’t even give me samples without charging retail price! These guys hand delivered several different flavors to us at no charge, and even came up with a customized blend for us. Even though they are already very established, they told us they would deliver even one pound of coffee a week to our door if that’s what we needed, because they want to grow with us. That’s what local business is all about. And, their coffee blends are exotic and delicious. No wonder these guys are blowing up in Houston and the surrounding cities.

Good quality, locally roasted coffee and you can find it all over the place, especially at a lot of the farmer markets around town. Not much more to say other than their sales people are generally helpful and pleasant, although not all of them are coffee nerds. Not my favorite in town, but certainly worlds away from the Washington State washouts and well worth paying slightly less for. According to their website, they have a buy three pounds, get the fourth pound free, but remember to keep it in the freezer in whole beans and grind just before using.

In addition to great coffee beans, Katz Coffee provides unparalleled customer service. We already loved Katz Coffee for their roasted coffee beans, their sage advice, and the wonderful staff but all that pales in comparison to how we felt when they arrived within 3 hours of our paniced(to put it mildly) phone call about inoperable steam wands. Thanks to their great customer service we were quickly back in business, trying to provide similiarly great customer service to our customers. Katz is great beans & great coffee-karma!

I have Adult ADD. I had been addicted to my meds years ago. After quitting the prescribed speed I gained a vast appreciation for fresh roasted coffees. While the add meds have been an issue for years, I’m still an addict all the same. I have to have my morning cup. Though I don’t consider caffeine to be as serious a drug, when I moved here I didn’t know what I’d do without a coffee supplier. I just had to get my fix and I used to get it every monday from a roaster In Ann Arbor MI. It was great and fresh from the weekend. I was sad to leave that. Fortunately within a week of getting here I hunted these guys down at the farmers market. I was sold immediately. All their coffee is great. Even better they have different roasts of some of the beans so you can try them with different styles. I love that. Waking up to the decision of a light roast or full city is great. Maybe this evening I’ll try that same been as a french roast. They seem to have a fair amount of fair trade and organic coffees and some of their blends are awesome. Since that first purchase I’ve been back every week. Hell I even drove out to their office one week on the north side of town to pick up coffee. I do believe they whole sale, but are great about web orders and picking it up if you run out mid week. What can I say. They are my pusher man.

Damn good COLD coffee! Just tried some of this great coffee being served at the Lazy-Hazy-Crazy 5k Run at the Aquarium. I was treated to my choice of hot or iced. I was too hot and sweaty for warm stuff. I’m so glad I picked the iced, because it had wonderfully rich and smooth flavour. I went back for seconds and a little more information as to who retailed their coffee. What I learned was that the iced coffee is cold water brewed overnight with a coarse grind, filtered, then cut with water. Not using hot water keeps the acidic flavour down and improves the smoothness. Maybe I talked to Avi(guy with a beard and reddish brown hair) that Michael T mentioned, but whoever this roaster/barristo was, he set me straight on good coffee. Just have to track some down now. Katz is a wholesaler, but does sell some out of their roasting facility. Thankfully, I heard I can get a hot cup at Le Peep or pickup a pound at a regular retail store. The caffeine is calling…

I absolutely Love, Love, Love Katz Coffee! I moved away from Houston 6 months ago and am missing Avi and his crew’s excellent roasted coffee. They are professional and personable as well as knowledgable and passionate! If you want a great cup of coffee or a fantastic pound of coffee… find them!
