China Place Liquor City

Very clean and very well lit. A lot of variety of wine, cognac, sake, and international selections. They have a few beer selections in the back but not much. This is my go to for sake and cognac. They have rare bottles so if you’re looking for that, I would check here. There’s really not much to say but straight forward. Staff is nice and don’t hover but are there if you need help. However, there may be a language barrier.

People working weren’t exactly knowledgeable. When they asked me what I was looking for I said, «Scotch and bourbon,» and somehow they heard cognac to which they replied «Cognac??» And I’m like, «No, Scotch and Bourbon… okay WHISK (e)Y» because they just had a look in their faces like they only English they knew was Cognac. They had a decent selection of Scotch and Bourbon, but definitely a cognac liquor store. I mean they had glass display cases of the high end Hennessey bottles and the fancy-​shmancy cognacs… which struck me even more when they had to ask me if I was looking for cognac because I mean really? Only a blind person or I guess someone buying alcohol for the first time would have to ask where the cognac is walking through the door… The people were nice for the most part, but I feel like if I wasn’t quick to pick out my bottles, then they would’ve pestered me about taking too long and just looking. Store was very clean and not your average local mom&pop liquor store.

Hub and I did a shopping day in the area and wandered in. What a lovely, clean, and upscale store. You know how most local liquor stores are just FUSTY inside, you know, that cross between funky, musty, and definitely dusty? Not this place.
I was impressed by the high end selections and happy to see many options that were reasonably priced as well. The western style wines and spirits are well represented here as well as many interesting Asian options that tickled our fancy. Darcy, the salesperson who worked with us was lovely, lively, and knowledgeable. I wish every store had someone like her to work with. Honest. She recommended a spirit to us that we purchased a really good price and are now holding on to for a fun occasion when we can uncork it with friends. I will definitely come back by, especially if I want a gift for someone special.
